In our 2022 gxl when the air con is set in the front and the rear button is pressed the rear vents just blow outside temp air, is this normal, surely it should mimic the front setting with warm or cool air .

It doesn't blow warm air. I have felt it blowing cold air after a bit of wait. In short, it does not mimic the front a/c settings but its not just a blower either.
The PDF states that the car has front and rear air conditioning so something is not right.
I agree with subin.
It will never match the front, but last summer my third road passengers asked me to turn the rear fan speed down as too cold. Maybe it just takes a while for the ducting to heat or cool down.
