It depends how much someone punished it / if treatment is good then it will last / people use 4 wheel drives for all sorts of reasons such as bush tracks or many people use them on farms

Where are the jacking points on the 79 series can chassis?

1 answer
Paul .
Paul .

Refer to owners manual for jacking points, i have jacked under rear axle twice so far, both times digging a hole to get sufficient height to install the jack,
unfortunately there are no points on chassis or body for a hi lift jack, this could be overcome with some customising, but its not a 5 minute job, just another
oversight by Tojo not to make LJs user friendly to lift.

Gday Toger, the hz 4.2 litre straight six diesel engine first appeared in1990 it was designed for cruisers and coaster buses . The 1hz engine is still being used in custom cruisers for some markets, it is a great engine but much underpowered compared to the current eight cylinder turbos .

Always had problems since new (WHEN COLD) 1st to 2nd as do a number of mates who also have V8 Troopy. No problem with Hi Lo change unless the lever is not pressed as necessary to effect change

Has anyone had any problems with changing gears, specifically up to 3rd? Doesn't crash, but doesn't want to go in either. Mainly when I've changed at high revs.

Sounds like you have to take the vehicle to a quality trustworthy honest and reliable transmission specialist shop or Nissan Australia workshop

If them 2 options fail try a auto electrician shop or a mechanic that's been fixing vehicles for at least 20 to 30 years though it seems like a gearbox problem the way you described the problem

Landcruiser 76 wgn. What the reasoning for different track front to rear.

As far as I can find out the miners wanted something that was more stable on uneven ground...hence the wider front track

Jack Guthrie

Every vehicle has different size tracks I think this is mostly because of the bigger engine displacement and toyota wanted better stability and lock to lock steering.

jfs43

On further investigation it seems that it is because of the bigger engine (V8) and to address an oversteer problem

Is 230,000 kms on a 2005 70 Series 6 cylinder too many kms? Said it has been serviced every 5000 kms and certainly looks like it has been well looked after and what would I reasonably expect to pay? I know it has towed a caravan a lot.

That Km is ok and should last a lot longer, if looked after. Have a look on carsales at the advertised prices of others the same milage, to get an idea on value. I would only be guessing if its a trayback maybe $34K, thats a turbo one. If its not turbo then they are worth about 8 grand less. Value depends upon a lot, inc accessories and who owned it before. Check it wasn't a mine truck. Main thing is that the gearbox and diff oil was also changed every 20-40K otherwise I wouldn't buy it, especially as it was towing. If the engine holds onto revs too long when changing gears the injector pump will need expensive work. ie thousands of dollars. The clutch is a week point and may need replacing, check it doesn't shudder badly. Cheers, good luck.

Hi Wayne, Mine is an 05 but the same. It has only 70K now but a friend of mine has one with more k's. He said mine was a lot quieter as the injector pipes are supposed to be changed every 150,000km and his hadn't been done. I don't know about this but he should know. The clutches are meant to all shudder and mine does too a little. Mine uses 14L per 100km average fuel. The fuel filters are meant to be changed every 2nd oil change I believe. They are hard to change too. They are great for towing as 4th gear is only about 300-400rpm more than top gear. It will do over 130 in 4th and at 90 or 100 is only doing I think 2300-2700 revs which is perfect for hills in 4th. The timing belt should be changed when required the sticker should be on the cover, I think its 150K. The rear suspension needs upgrading if carrying loads freqently, as it sags in the rear. I put a 3 inch exhaust on mine as you had to wait for the turbo gases to leave to change gears, to slow, but better now.
