Amazing for nervous cat

Excellent product. I tried everything from the vet to calm my nervous cat. Stumbled across these biscuits at the pet shop and have never looked back.

Unfortunately, after a month on this product my dog's anxieties have not abated to any significant degree and to keep using it would be a waste of money.

Does not work

If anything seems to make our 13 year old male Maltese more irritated. I would take our advice and not purchase.

Amazing!!

We have a very high strung 16 month old spoodle x terrier who barks at every leaf, bird and noise. He follows us around all the time and struggles to settle on his own. These treats are simply the best! Within an hour of having the chew...which he loves, he is settled and relaxed. He is still himself but just chilled out. He is better behaved on walks and the barking has decreased. He doesn't seem to be getting as worked up over little things.
Worth every cent!

Dosen't work

The cat found these too hard to eat, just left them in plate. I tried soaking them in water then mashed them down to soften them.. I think this is a whole lot of work for a cat biscuit. I then mixed it into her food and it didn't work. I thought she would feel a little chilled but no reaction. They are very expensive and my understanding is you can't return them. Won't buy these again.

Ok

Tryptophan is an ingredient. It needs to pass blood brain barrier to make serotonin. The serotonin is the calmative. You and most animals make it. It relaxes us. Not sure about the other compound. The listed compounds contain herbs that act as calmatives.

It doesnt say which version of tryptophan or its concentration. This will effect it going across the blood brain barrier.

I have used it on and off since i bought. Unfortunately i have seen some changes. Whether it is due to settling in or the chews is unclear.

Will let you know

Have just started this product for our Dane x Lab who has bad separation anxiety. We have been told of his barking habits when we are not home and we have tried everything else. Love that it's endorsed by a Bark Busters and are made from natural ingredients.
Easy to give him and he loves the taste.
Will advise after a month and results from neighbours 5/10/17

Cal active or knock out!?

I bought this for our 9 year old Viszla as he has extreme separation anxiety. After 2 days on these tablets he was just about unconscious, didn't move when we came in ( so yes, it works!) and was so lethargic I thought he was going to die! He recovered but has not been quite the same and his hearing has not returned. I think some sort of nerve damage has occurred. I would not recommend this product.

I gave these to my dog. He’s a Staffy x Labrador and is 5years old. He’s terrified of storms, so we gave him 3 as per what it said on the bag. It helped but since we only want to use it during storms we haven’t given him anymore yet. My question is…..when dogs stop having it can it make them more anxious than normal?
He’s been pacing, barking, panting and shaking since the next morning after he had this. Definitely not his normal behaviour

Heya, I definitely don't think they cause problems afterwards. Could it be he's still anxious from the storm? Or some other thing?
I have a little mini foxy x pom, who is crazy anxious about storms. The thunder shirt I bought him did nothing for him. These and a supplement with hemp oil from vetologica, both given together, are the best treatment I've found, plus training them with the treats as the storm approaches. I have an Alice Springs Special (dog from a desert community via the shelter in Alice) who is twice the weight of my mini foxy but the same amount of treats give the same effect for her, so I think the effective dose may be quite dog-specific.)

My mini foxy lets me know there's thunder long before I can hear it, so I get out all the treats for them both, and cut each bikkie into quarters, with them watching eagerly. Then I start training them, with great excitement and lots of praise and cuddles and a quarter of a treat each time they do as I ask. I take it in turns, so the entire process can take a while, deliberately. They get the chance to be focussed on the training and treats in the presence of the stressor, which gives their subconscious a chance to work out they actually are safe, even with thunder. It also kinda wears them out mentally, in a rewarding way, which relaxes them. Lots of feelgood brain chemistry! And by the time we've done this the kibble is starting to take effect.
I did this the past 2 storms seasons here in Darwin. At the height of the storm season we'll have thunder and a storm around a couple of times a day, every day, poor dogs! It got to the point where when they heard thunder they'd come to me telling me it was time for this whole ritual :-D And they are definitely calmer. Not calm but hey my little boy kept his tummy fur all storm season this time. Huzzah! S worth doing.

The training is specifically things they're good at so they're getting the fun of the praise. A bit of challenging stuff but mostly good. And if they're too anxious to do much, I go back to the basics, like sitting and waiting etc. When they're anxious even doing these is a challenge, and duly awarded, lots of praise! It's not the time to teach a new trick, lol!

I think cutting the kibble might help them digest them quicker too as the storm approaches.

Overall though, the best treatment for anxiety is consistent mental challenges that are not too easy and definitely not too hard. Setting them up to succeed, 10 mins a few times a day. Using their brain and persistently working on the things they find hard, mixed with the things they find easy so they get that mental satisfaction. It's also building that trust in me that I know what I'm doing and I'm in charge of the situation, so they don't have to try to fix it themselves. And walking! I find a walk that's more a sniffari than physically demanding, each day works with these dogs, but a previoius dog, also super stressy, responded to a really physically exhausting walk a few times a week. (Thankfully she had short legs!)
It is all basically building up their tolerance for challenging situations or puzzles and focussing always on making them feel really good about achieving, and no negative messages when they don't get something. I just go back to what they can do. And try to work out how to break down the trick into smaller, more doable bites for them. And absolutely the most important, is building their trust in you!

It's also worth looking at the purpose for the breeds in your dog, and seeing what you can try re tricks or kinds of exercise they might find satisfying. My mini foxy kills soft toys, as he's a ratter. My happy go lucky Alice Special loves investigating things, scenting the air, scampering round, while my mini foxy stays close to me ready to chew to bits any threat to me or the other dog, as he's super protective. (We have an agreement, he might let me know there's 'danger', but I'm the one in charge of security, not him!)

All of that said, my cat ended up on Royal Canin Calm, and I can't get over how much happier she is, and what good conditions she is in physically now. So I may just try instead of calming treats, put the dogs on the dog version of Royal Canin Calm instead. Depends on how severe this storm season is I spose. It's good to have options! Especially as they grow and age.
But the cornerstone of a less anxious dog for any problem, is the training, their relationship with you, and getting the things that fill their soul with happiness, like hey, killing soft toys just as if they're a rat!

You might have to try a few things before finding what works. Balanced Canine has an anxiety supplement that may or may not work it uses herbs. Their called doggie boosters. Supposedly hard to find without the name.

Checking online shops after searching for calm/calming to see if there’s anything you can try there.

There are calming foods too, but they are hit and miss.

There’s also a milk protein called Zylkene that may work.

You won’t know what works without trying a few things. Try each thing for the minimum time stated on the bottle. Don’t mix them, some don’t mix well together and your dog could get really sick.

For some dogs hemp or CBD oil works as well.

How long does it take canine Tranquil to work

Vic
Vic ·

Depends on the dog and its issues. One of mine had only mild anxiety and I saw improvement in 2 weeks and I have been able to wean her off with training as well as using the tranquil, my older girl was attacked and it took about a month of working out the correct dose which was 4 a day but then I got her down to 3 a day but she was on it for life with no side effects and it helped her live a normal life.
