Hi! I find the front a little low/soft compared with the rear. I've added 20mm preload spacers but they've made little difference. It's a 2008 and I'm 80kg - naked :) Has anyone else found this, and if so, what have you done to improve it?

Thanks!

does wr450f need high maintenance?

It needs frequent oil changes because it doesn't hold much oil however this isn't difficult or expensive. There are videos on youtube showing how it's done and it only takes about 10 minutes once you know what you're doing. Changing the filter takes more time but I've heard a lot of people only change the filter every second oil change. All other maintenance is the same as any other bike. Just remember when you check the oil level that this bike has a dry sump so you have to run the bike for a few minutes before checking the oil or else you risk overfilling it which is bad.

I do an oil change every 1000 kms change oil filter every. Third change of oil air filter is very easy to look at I change when it's dirty besides that they are recommended I check valves every 5000 km mine have never needed adjusting .so I would say they don't need that much maintenance

Mine is the 2012 model and has the EFI computer set into race mode (the highest power/ lowest fuel economy setting), with knobby D606 tyres, carrying my 105 kgs along the highway at a constant speed of between 85-90km/h, I get 60-70km on a stock standard 7.2 litre tank full of 98 octane fuel. The wind makes a big difference and I've found that leaning forward to reduce my body frontal section helps a lot with fuel economy. You can also change the sprockets which makes a difference too but the sprocket I have gives a good balance between offroad power and onroad speed (not sure of number of teeth but was the larger of the 2 sprockets that came with bike). When riding long distances offroad I put fuel into 2 litre PET Coke bottles and carry them in a backpack. It's reasonably safe because they're strong bottles.

I have a 17 model with the Hollis Map and can get 130km out of a tank that's gravel road/tight singles combined but easy on the throttle.

Riding on the road, if I'm about 6 foot. Would i have any trouble with the wr450 height wise?

If you are 6 foot it would probably be perfect .lm 5,6 and it was a little hard when I first got it . Only one foot could touch the ground on my toes with a big stretch .even if u are six foot and heavy it got enough grunt to get u anywhere .so six foot would be a good height for a wr 450 hope that helps good luck and if u do get one u are in for some fun times thanks Greg
