Almost instant severe allergic reaction
My dog suffered a severe allergic reaction after I applied the topical treatment Advocate tonight. He is a 16 month old Jack Russell, 9 kg. We went straight back to the vet where we bought the product, as soon as he started showing signs of discomfort and they administered two antihistamine injections. He is eating and drinking normally and seems to be better now, but it was incredibly frightening. It looked as though his skin was actually crawling and he was rubbing his face on all surfaces, the vet also said his temperature was quite high. Bayer definitely need to update their paperwork to warn users of these symptoms with this product. I will be sure to let them know!

Severe allergic reaction to Advocate for Dogs, 4-10 Kilos, Fleas, Heartworm and Worm Medication
I administered this product topically, as per instructions, to my 13 month old Jack Russell, that weighs 6.3 kilos, late Sunday evening (1/3/2020). A trip to the vet and 3 days later she is still unwell. She developed tremors, lacked co ordination, did not eat or drink and was completely lethargic and listless for two days. She also had diarrhoea yesterday. Clearly this product has affected my dog's nervous system. She is starting to recover but I will never use this product again. I have reported this to the company Bayer and their response has been one of great concern. This product must carry clear warnings, of potential side effects and what to do in the event of an allergic reaction, on its packaging. At the moment it does not.
Purchased in January 2021 for A$84.99.

It got rid of fleas
Actually, I was shocked by most of the reviews on the Advocate! My experience has been quite the opposite! I rescued a kitten and it had fleas. I used Advocate once and I think there are no fleas on it! Actually I saw fleas falling from him 2 hours after using it. I saw no strange reactions in my cat! I will continue using it and hopefully it will be fine!

Dachshund is very poorly !
I give my 1 year old Dachshund his pipette on his neck, he didn't react straight off but literally an hour later he has now become very lethargic, hardly eating & dry heaving ! I'm so worried about him as he's so constipated. I'm very strict on what he eats & has only the best ( Royal Canin) but this has basically nearly killed my dog. I have to go to vets and it change this. If he isn't well I will be taking this all the way. He's only a miniature dachshund. It's enough to kill him. Hang your heads in shame! Never again

Scary
I gave this to my 5 year old Chihuahua after I found a flea on her, it was recommended by the pet store. It’s about 6 hours after treatment and I couldn’t find her. Calling and calling her and no response. Started panicking she must have escaped but no there she is lying in the middle of the lawn on the dark with her head following some unseen object. Cowering when I go near her and unable to walk properly. Her back legs are squatting down.
Earlier she was hyperventilating as she usually does when a thunderstorm appears, but there wasn’t a thunderstorm. Now I’m wondering if it was the Advocate all along?

Possibly dangerous drug
All 5 of my 5 chihuahuas on Advocate have been diagnosed with mitral valve disease, seizures, & arthritis, and 3 of them died prematurely. Some might say that this is a coincidence or due to other confounding factors, EXCEPT for the fact that my family and I have been caring for chihuahuas for over 40 years. Before I had my present five chihuahuas, my family (parents, siblings) and I, have had a total of 10 purebred chihuahuas & one chihuahua cross. None of these chihuahuas had any serious or unpredictable medical conditions - no heart disease,...Read more
or seizures, and all 11 of the dogs lived between 14 - 16 years of age. My recent chihuahuas on Advocate have all died around 11 years of age, and ALL share the same medical conditions (though they are not all related). Coincidence? I don't think so.Similar opinion? Dogs skin burning and cat has bald spot and fur coming out in clumps
Do these pharmaceutical companies torture animals to try these products out before the pay off the vets to push you to buy them. I’m tossing the over $375 worth of it in the garbage. Its poison to my small mini dogs. They are not acting right since yesterday when we gave it to them. One is red raw and pink all over his back and one is rolling on the carpet tying it itch it. Cat is leaving clumps of fur everywhere.

Can't believe this is even legal
Made my dog sick like never before, and I've seen so many of the same story. I only wish I had read this before I gave it to her, I feel awful that she became so ill. Don't buy.

Does two jobs in one!
Bayer Advocate for Dogs AND Cats is very easy to apply, and with worm treatments being so bothersome to use, this two in one for fleas and worms, is a blessing.
It's a relief to use this year round because it's worry free
A tip: I buy for my dog and cat, online, it's much cheaper that way.

Easy to apply
I've been using Advocate, as recommended by my vet and local pet store for the past 6 years for my 9kg dog with no problem at all. It is an easy monthly application on the back of the dog's neck (where it can not be licked), no more struggle of feeding the wormer.
In all honestly, I have not had any worms/flea problem so can not have a say whether the product is actually able to kill them, but can at least see it's effective in keeping the worms and fleas away.
The only downside of this product is the higher price tag. But unless if I encounter any problems myself, I will still be using advocate and recommending it to others.

I FEEL BETTER
Having just bought a new puppy I felt guilty that I had not wormed my much loved 7 year old maltese/Shitzu for many months. Shortly after treating him he was playing like the puppy, noticeably much more active and a renewed bounce in his step.

Advocate is terrible!
Bought advocate based on recommendations at city farmers that this is their best selling item and does all worms and fleas in a topical application. 12 hours after the dose my dog was irritated and pacing. 24 hours after the dose she had two lots of explosive diarrhea. One lot in my car and she is still not herself. Do not use this product!! I'm going back to using revolution.

Does not work
Put this on my 12 week frenchie as I thought it would be easier than tablets.
He was not washed for a few days after application. A week later he has fleas.
Decided to change to a nexgard chew and milbemax. After taking milbemax roundworms are in his poop - meaning he had worms which are not effectively being killed by milbemax.
Advocate did not protect from fleas or from roundworms.
Since nexgard/milbemax no fleas also.

Poisonous, Advocate flea drops,
Always used Advocate flea drops in the back of my dogs neck, he was always quiet after but at 4am this morning he was unable to walk, sit and was uncomfortable. Taken to vets and they have washed off the advocate and placed him on a drip. Not worth the risk putting this poison on my baby. Will never do it again.. Waiting anxiously now.

Beware this is a poison
My dachshund displayed irrational behaviour, diarrheo, vomiting and intense shaking. I didn't initially connect it to advocate until the last time, when the reaction was much worse. It finally clicked! I cleaned him immediately and he was much 10 minutes later, but still not right. He was scared of me for hours after I applied it.
He's developed a skin condition since using advocate too. The vets then try to sell you more products to deal with that. Interestingly his skin is getting better now that he's overdue on the advocate.

Please don't use this!!!
My vet told me to use this on my pup, I wasn't sure about it as I m not familiar, I blindly did, and my puppy has seizures and it cost me $$$$ to get him partially ok, he nearly died, he had to spend the whole night at the vet, which is another bill coming, I just can't believe they are still aloud to sell this

I gave my 3kg puppy the dose for 4 to 10kg dose of advantix accidentally. Should I try and wash it off or is it okay?

Hi Judith
We have been using advocate on our young cat for about 6 months now and havnt had the need to wash it. Put it on the back of the neck as directions and then it can't be licked off. It dries over night. We gave had no problems with advocate.
