I left Australia Post in 2002 and to date have continued to remain in the Super they provide. In recent years the Insurance fees have increased to $7420 per year. This and other costs such as admin fees have eroded my balance. I wish to know why I am paying so much ?

I have recently been to a financial adviser who has suggested moving from APSS to Australian super, due the the large difference in fees and costs. ( they claim almost $7K ). Is there a site that will give me the APSS allocated pension returns over the past 1 year, 3 years, 5 years and also show if the returns are before or after any costs / fees, and what those costs / fees ?? Thanks Geoff

Geoff I am about to move my APSS super to Australian Super as my own research suggests it is one of the best. APSS is now closed to new members so I suspect its performance will deteriorate. The APSS web site has, l think, a Product Disclosure Statement for pension accounts which gives the yearly return on investment. You do not need to know anything about the allocated amount as you decide how much to take per annum. It is the net amount of interest your money makes which is the important factor.

Unfortunately the answer is NO. You will have to start another super account with some other superannuation scheme. You could then close the APSS account and transfer the funds to the new account if you wish to. However, get professional advice.

Hi Pat
If you go to apss.com.au and select 'Investments' then 'Crediting Rates' from the menu, you can review fund performance for any period you select. You can also review past performance in our quarterly newsletter that can be downloaded from the apss website under the 'Publications and Forms' menu and select 'Insight newsletters'.
Remember though, past performance is not necessarily indicative of future performance.

If you would like to discuss your situation in more detail, please do call our contact centre on1300 360 373.

Hope that helps.

I have sent 2 emails and followed up by calling them 4 times....for a copy of the Binding Beneficiary form to be sent to my daughter. After 7 weeks of waiting for a simple form, I am at my wits end waiting!!!

It's extremely distressing not being able to finalise this matter on top of dealing with grief.

Can this form not be emailed?

Can someone tell me why that almost 2 months later we are still waiting for a form to be sent?

Hi Jennifer, I've had nothing but good service from them at all times. In fact I only rang them for a statement last week and received it at home today. Perhaps check with them whether you have given them a correct address. It certainly doesn't follow the excellent service that I have always received in my many years with them which was back from when they first started. I do know that they don't have the facility to email forms which is perhaps something they should look at. Have you seen whether the form is available for downloading from their website as yet?

thx. Mailing address checked every time...on emails and phone calls. I am at a lost something so simple to action can take so long.

doc is not available to download either from apss website.

It's actually longer than 1 month as I called in July then followed up by emails &; more phone calls.

2 months & still no form in the mail. For God's sake. ..

Hi Mrs Evans
You can register your query anytime on the APSS website at www.apss.com.au, click on 'contact us' button at the top of the web page and submit your query. I think email is going to be the most efficient way of contacting the APSS given the time difference. There isn't an email address to send your email to - it is a webform that our team can respond to via email from that point on.

Also a reminder to protect your personal information and never include your private details on any public websites such as this one.

Is your FAS affected if you choose to go part time. Or to take transition to retirement option taking 1 day of per week from your LSL?

Hi Anne c,

I recommend that you contact the APSS for further advice through their website at apss.com.au. Alternatively they can be contacted on 1300 360 373.

Thanks,

Steph.

Australia Post
APSS Management A.Australia Post

Hi Ann,
In addition to Steph's suggestion above, the following information might also help.

In the APSS, Final Average Salary is not impacted by a change from full-time to part-time hours. However, the years of service component of the calculation, and therefore the Defined Benefit will be impacted. When moving from full-time to part-time hours, the years of service component in the calculation of your benefit is reduced, or pro-rated. Final Average Salary would be unaffected by taking one day of Long Service Leave per week, assuming it is paid leave.

The APSS has issued a fact sheet on how Super Salary is calculated, you can find it here: https://www.apss.com.au/Public/pdf/FS_Your_Super_Salary.pdf.
We also recommend you contact the APSS Superphone on 1300 360 373 to obtain more personalised information.
