Superb Freeview DVR / Media Player
The Beyonwiz U4 is basically a slightly improved version of the T4, so a lot of features & opinions of the T4 will apply to the U4 as well. Physically it is a smaller device, which I see as a positive, and the remote control is quite different to the T4's remote. It is very much like the old DP-P2 (and other Beyonwiz models of that era) remote, which to me is another positive as I really don't like my T4's remote. evice, the functions are virtually identical to the T4. The hardware specs are improved, which means the U4 can also now play video files created using the HEVC (H.265) codec, which is good news. It is also 4k capable. The other change I like is that the tuners seem to be more sensitive. My signal for the channel 7 group of channels used to be a bit borderline, but using the U4 in the same antenna socket I am yet to notice any dropouts. Overall, like the previous Beyonwiz models, it's an extremely versatile, do-it-all PVR, and this one is the most capable yet. The downside to that is that some of its more fringe functions aren't particularly intuitive to set up, but there are excellent online resources for assistance and a community of very helpful users. But ultimately, some less "techie"-type users will likely be put off by the sheer quantities of options and functions. That's the reason I've rated it 4 stars instead of 5. But consider your own needs when deciding. To me it's the standout DVR on the market because of everything it can do. Oh - one other nice improvement on previous models - so far all of the software updates (and there have been a few already in the couple of months I have owned it) have been installable online with the click of a button and a re-boot. i.e. no transferring files on USB sticks.Similar opinion?
