Codral New Formula does not work

published

Today i purchased Codral Day & Night tablets for my cold, these have "New Formula"written on the box. After 2.5 hours of taking them and not feeling any change i went back to the Chemist and found that i can buy the original Codral Day & Night tablets across the counter if i ask for them. Be aware the New Formula Tablets do not work and you cannot get your money back. "ripped off $21" Great.

Waste of money

This stuff is completely useless. It does nothing to clear blocked sinuses so you can breathe properly and get some sleep. The old stuff with pseudoephedrine used to work well but this new formula simply does not work. I have had better results from using Medi Choice Cold and Flu capsules which is a herbal treatment. Sambucol is another one that works.

Severe Side Effects - Do Not Consume

published

After taking 2 'day' tablets, I felt severe nausea and had extremely sore stomach ache. This was accompanied with feeling faint and dizzy immediately after consumption of the tablets. I will NEVER take another, and will NEVER recommend to any other person. These side effects are unwarranted, in addition to the fact that these tablets did NOTHING to subside my cold. These are clearly unsafe, and are TOXIC for human consumption. It is without doubt that I will be reporting Codral to the health department for their clear and unacceptable manufacturing and distribution of a HARMFUL product. *would give 0 stars*

Had 2 of the day pills and suffered major stomach pain and felt dizzy, some people say it's the new formula but I don't know. Defiantly will not take again.

USELESS

Codral Day & Night has always worked for me in the past, until they brought out the New Formula. It doesn't work at all for either sleep or daytime relief from cold symptoms. No bad side effects for me, just simply a complete waste of money.

Sleepless night

published

Not sure if it has helped with symptoms, but took the night tablet about 9 pm and still going flat out after 1.5 hours sleep at 11:30 am the following day. Waiting to hit the wall at some stage. Bouncing off the walls at work, can't sit still at my desk.

these tablets are actually so horrible. i haven't felt the slightest bit better at all! if anything i feel more sick and it has made my stomach hurt to the point where i feel like i'm going to faint. whoever made these should be ashamed of themselves. the night time tablets make you sweat and feel even worse in the middle of the night.

another useless product with phenylephrine

published

I'd been battling the flu for 3 days and was wondering why I wasn't getting any better. Turns out the chemist gave my husband this rubbish instead of the good stuff. As soon as I started taking the day and night original formula with Pseudoephedrine as the active ingredient, things starting improving.

Terrible would be a compliment

published

Its 2:30am and my breathing has just returned to normal after waking up at 2am with severe throat restriction, for breathing both in and out. It felt as though somewhere in my larynx or trachea I was down to less than half the size of a drinking straw. I was desperately forcing air in and out of my lungs. No ability to even call an ambulance. Thank goodness I've slowly just come right. I hadn't had any of the 'do not take if ....' symptoms. As others have said - terrible would be a compliment.

HIDDEN SIDE EFFECTS

My partner took this product today and it caused extreme stomach pains and dizziness. We had to call an ambulance as no such potential side effect was written anywhere and we were unsure what was wrong. Only after reading reviews did we see this happened to others.

Waste of time and money

published

I had a bad cold/flu (sneezing, body aches, headaches, freezing) and took doses of this over a day and it did nothing at all. I then took one dose of the original formula and felt almost normal.

I've thrown the rest of this new formula packet out and will be sticking with the original formula.

What a waste of money

published

Terrible would be a compliment, no relief from the symptons of my cold and a upset stomach as a side effect of the pills. I used to swear by the original coldral day and night but will be staying well away from this new formula from now on. save your money and look for the original if you actually want relief from your cold or flu.

Expensive and ineffective

Same here Daniel. Took two night time tabs & felt no effects whatsoever. No drowsiness two hours after taking them & I had to get out of bed to clear my nose. No mucous drying effect at all. Absolutely worthless if you ask me.

Sensitive Facial Skin and Sleeplessness

published

I should have remembered from last time I tried Codral. I only took two daytime tablet at 4:00pm which assisted with the Cold symptoms but effected my sleep. I have a sleep problem anyway but this exacerbated it. I would never take it of a night. An unusual side effect was sensitive facial skin and sore eyes the following day. I can only put it down to the Phenylephrine contained in the tablet as I have never had any reaction to Paracetamol or Codeine in the past.

Waste of money for Cold and Flu Relief

published

Rubbish. Took for 3 days and did nothing. Was sold it a second time a year later under the assumption it was different. Still complete rubbish. Better off taking Panadol this is a complete rip off. Next time I won't bother going back to this chemist and any that tries to sell me this product will be on my 'its just a sales pitch' list..
Nothing
Doesn't work, very expensive for the same results as generic paracetamol

New Formula, waste of money

published

The new formula did nothing for my cold. After 3 days of taking it my nose was no less blocked then when I started taking the tablets. In the past these have been very effective. I would not buy this product ever again. In fact I will be off to the chemist to buy something else tomorrow.

painful spasms

published

For some reason I have had a very bad experience with this product. After an hour or so of taking 2 morning pills, extreme stomach pains with sweating and almost passing out! After lying still for hours the spasms start to subside, and wear off after 4 hours. This happened last winter when I took the product too. Never again, my cold was the least of my worry!

Don't understand why I had this bad experience both times I took it.

No better than just panadol.

published

I wish they would bring back the origional formula. This new formula is a rip off and did nothing to relieve my cough or cold. I feel like I was just sold overpriced panadol. In the past I've used Dimatap which worked great. I was recommended the codral and was sucked in to buy it since it was on special. I hope to not make that mistake next time!

I used it for 2 days now but the effect was none! It didn't relieve symptoms. I still felt terrible because of blocked nose, sore throat and fever. I was recommended by pharmacists. Next time will be back to panadol.

New Formula causes major issues

published

The new formula with the Phenylephrine causes heart palpatations, dizziness and sleepless nights. Be warned, the chemist mentions this but not to extent that it is occurring. Would warn others from using this product.
Also, the actual product did not work for any of the flu symptoms at all. A total waste of money.
Nothing to like.
Causes side effects that are not acceptable.

I felt worse after taking them

published

I very rarely get sick so asked the pharmicist to recommend something. The daytime tablets made me drowsy and sick and the night time tablets kept me awake - the exact opposite of what I needed. Did nothing for my symptoms...absolutely useless and a rip off! I also don't like the fact that their advertising campaign urges us to 'soldier on' when you should stay at home and stop spreading your germs around!

Expensive and did not work

Good

This is the only cold/flu product available at the chemist that works for me. I take it with me when I travel. It doesn't really cure anything, but it relieves the symptoms and makes it a lot more bearable. It is recommended as an emergency medication to be kept in the house.
Reliability to help with acute cold symptoms like fever, pains, chills.
It is quite expensive!

The difference is they have changed phenylephedrine to phenylephrine, by taking out a component so people cannot make amphetamines from this product...was told by Poisons Information after my 20 yr old had a serious side effect from this medication!

OK

This is the only cold 'n flu I use - I find it very effective to relieve symptoms. I find that the Day tablets do not make me drowsy, which is good if you need to be on your toes at work
This is a really effective cold 'n flu medication. I use it to relieve my symptoms like headache, pains, fever & to decongest my nose.
This medication is quite expensive when you realise that it only has enough medication for a few days! But then, all cold 'n flu medicines are like that. The night time tablets are quite strong & do make you pretty tired, but I guess that is why they're night time medication - to allow you a good chance to sleep without disturbances of a blocked nose, fever etc.

Can anyone tell me how long the codeine stays in your system for once you've stopped using these tablets.

you can buy 48 tablets (day and night) from pharmacy direct online for the same price of the 24 pack in chemists. :)

Terrible

published

I thought this was very ineffective. During the day, it would not do much for my runny nose. However, during the night, it would keep me awake. The worst of both worlds. I recommend the original formula over these. Also, for what it does, I found this to be very expensive. You can buy the generic chemist brands for a lot cheap and to the same effect.
The panadol is good for high temperatures.
The decongestant does not work for me, making this as ineffective as panadol for my runny nose, except it is more expensive. The night tablets keep me awake at night.

I agree with all your comments, I too found the night pills keep me awake. I cant take them as i don't sleep at all. Also far too expensive, i will be looking for cheaper options next time.
