Great for a Taxi, Good for a Family car.
Back headroom limited for 6" 0' and over, back seat headrest also low. Leg room is good.
Built great for a Taxi, very reliable, but small things go, for example back seat handles and door seals.
Suspension is REALLY smooth, and the engine is very quiet. When driving around town wheel noise is just as loud.
Accelerator Pedal space is also smaller than what I would have liked, if not careful your foot could get stuck beneath the brake pedal.
Would recommend.

BA Fairmont Ghia V8
Bought with 100k on the clock. Have head the headlining done, the climate control.done and the insane 2 piece spark plugs replaced. These seem to be the 3 common faults. I reckon I could now lap Australia in comfort without an issue. Just a fabulous tough and comfortable Aussie car.

Easy and cheap to fix, no problem to find parts.
Hello I had a Ford Fairmont AU II,
I didnt have enough money to buy something else and I got that beauty thankfully for 2000$ with 250k on the clock.
When I go for the test drive there were noises coming from everywhere but I knew how to fix bearings and how cheap they are. There was oil leak, it was also ok because with this cars you can drive 800k change the headgasket and drive 800k more. Only basic things like filters oil and spark plugs you need to change like any car. 6 cylinder 4.0l engine gives you heaps of power and great trust. you ...Read more

EF Fairmont Ghia -- #2 - and loving it
Falcon EF with 390.000 Km needed a few parts to get it up to scratch again - all parts available -cheap.
Then I found a EF (NF) Fairmont - neglected-spraymist all over - inside like new - 140.000KM! GOT it... cheaper then the money I had to spend for parts for the EF. Clayed the exterior - 3days - paint is as new. Brakes, injector service - oil change with filter, auto service, new tyres. All up on the road $2500. Fuel consumption cruising 7-8ltr/100KM. Climate control computer changed, found a XR6 computer and replaced it. I had the other car...Read more

Still going strong. No breakdowns. 148,000km. Now in Townsville ex Sydney.
What Pearlstar & zucan said!!!... i love pearlstar's passion for the mighty Ba Falcon.
Have had to spend up on maintenance like front brake discs. Shocks. Tyres etc etc. Just normal stuff.
Still drives like a dream..... was so safe & comfortable on The Bruce Hwy.
Only now discovering the joys of Traction control on dirt roads out ofvtge city. Wouldn't dare in the wet..... but with good low profile tyres it seems impossible to loose control on gravel/dirt when I have a bit of fun.
I still treat her like a lady.... most of the time lol

Excelent
I just did my first out of town trip in our BA Ford Fairmont 6cyl Broken hill to Mildura and back home 12 hour day.
Great fuel consumption (I used less fuel than a 4cyl Magna on the same trip) air con on all the way average out side temp 39 inside 22c. I have a major spinal injury and with the last car a trip like that ended up in agony not this time great car. Pleasure to drive.
I paid $7000 that includes bull bar and lights.
If you want some thing that soaks up the ks in the country roads and gets great fuel consumption this is the way to go, my only tip is regular oil and filter changes every 5000ks.

Absolutely fantastic and handsomely beautiful car
I got this car after my very first car (which was also a BA MKII Fairmont Ghia) got written off due to an accident. Every constant search for any car (mostly Australian built) and they didn't exactly meet my needs like the BA Ghia does so I went for another one, but in the dealers this time with a three month warranty and rims and tyre excess. Nicely serviced with fresh premium metallic navy blue paint and clean interior to keep that mint 'new car' feel and condition helps the contemporary sporty European styling of the car, both inside and out...Read more
. What I have always loved about this car was the craftsmanship and creativity in the design aesthetic of the car, controls and gadgets being more comfortable to use. The fuel economy was surprisingly good for a car of this type in either 91, 95 or definitely 98. With it's spacious design, I feel parking it makes it nice practical, especially for a driver like me that doesn't want to rely on a small car just to make everything easy which takes away the driver experience imo. What I also love about the car is it's powerful I6 engine. When you put even your bare foot on the accelerator pedal, the car just flies! You are on the edge of your comfortable leather seats and enjoying the ride. I even had one friend saying it's a better drive than a Lexus at one point. A freakin' Lexus! I love the ICC as well, especially the color screen in the Ghias. You can have the option of installing a GPS instead of relying on a tiny navigator you put on your window display. The trim found in the MkII Ghias help the car standout to give it a luxurious feel, from leaning on the console centre so you can touch the gearknob to the steering wheel. It is absolutely comfortable with the leather seats and smooth drive and excellent design work obviously inspired by BMWs back in the day. As my first (and also second car) it is an absolute MUST! Excellent contemporary exterior design, comfortable interior, powerful I6 engine, reliable, efficient on fuel even for such a big car. None at all reallySimilar opinion? Good car, solid and mostly reliable
Mine is a 97 Fairmont with 256,000 kms. It is a comfortable ride with a strong motor. I have had the usual problems like head gasket blown, had to replace ignition coil, had to have disc brake rotors machined due to shudder, but apart from these problems the car has not given too much trouble.
Smooth comfortable ride
High fuel use, petrol filter in a difficult position to replace, transmission service is a pita, it should have a drain bolt for the transmission oil but it doesn't. You have to take the oil pan off, and even then only 4 liters of oil comes out, leaving 6 liters of dirty oil still in the transmission and torque converter.

The good and the bad of Ford BA Fairmont 2005 MKII
I recently bought a Ford BA Fairmont with vapour injection gas system installed and 139k on it. Previously I used to own a VX Commodore which was sold just because of its age else no problems.
Compared to a Holden, the rear leg space is tight and less roomy which was something I was not happy about. The other common problem I see is the cabin is not quiet. I can hear tyre noise, wind noise and also rain drops hitting the roof feels like hail. Not happy with the sound proofing with the car. You can see metal floors inside the cabin from the sid...Read more

Solid well built and handsome Aussie car
I have owned this car for four and a half years and covered 85,000 kms.
It has been a great car. The CD player was jammed, but was fixed straight away. It is worth upgrading the ICC screen to colour as you can run GPS, DVD player and a reverse camera.
I went mercury silver as other colours were too pastel for my liking. Spare parts are readily available from auto wreckers. try a self serve.
Interior is well equipped. I run this car on RON 95 - better performance and fuel economy. parking in shopping centre car parks
Great interior space, ecellent fuel economy on long trips.
Servicing may cost more, stainless steel full size spare tyre, parking can be cumbersome, battery fiddly to remove.

Great value for money if you are buying a second hand model a couple of years old. The faulty diff is a major concern - get it checked at Ford.
Good value for money. Good interior, all the typical extras you would expect as standard, rear parking sensors are great. Plenty of room for baby seats.
Have consistently had a problem with a 'clunk' sound and a vibration going through the whole car. Have taken it back to Ford 3 times to get it fixed under guarantee. Seems to be a common problem with the BA II's - our other Falcon has the same problem. Turns out to be a faulty diff and they need to replace it. Bad fuel economy unless you put it on to gas, in which case it is the best engine to have on gas.

90% of taxi owners cant be wrong, very basic car that will not keep its value well but be assured that it will look after you in the long run if maintained well. I got the injected gas conversion done and happy with the performance and economy.
Good basic car with all the nice little extras, very reliable.
Hate the diff, if you test drive and find a strange shudder at different speeds have it replaced before buying. Central locking actuators have a small plastic 20 cent worm gear that breaks but you need to replace the whole assembly at $160 plus labour. Last time I got one from Ford spares one of their mechanics was ordering one at the same time.

BF Mk I Fairmont. Good comfortable large car with good economy & performance. Boot space OK, however step down where tyre fits makes loading awkward (boot floor not flat). Stereo good for Ford, climate control good. Seats are comfortable and driving position if good.
I would purchase again, however would prefer a Falcon wagon instead.
Good performance, handling and fuel economy 7.8 l/100 km sitting on 100 kph, 8-8.5 l/100 km @ 110-115 kph, 10.8 l/100 km around town. Good economy for towing comfortable around town and on long trips.
Poor fitting of plastic trim it falls off and squeaks. No noticable difference in economy between ULP & 98 PULP.

Good fuel economy (4.0L engine) more better than my (3.0L) Mazda Trubite, I don't believe. If change car, next one, must be FG Falcon.
I like the very smooth 6speed auto, I have changed my BA II to BF, then to BF II Fairmont, I very very love it.
Highway noise, just 4 airbags and 4 stars safe rate.

One of the best value vehicles on the market, often forgotten by young buyers for the sportier looking XR6. Has the same power as the XR6 but half the insurance premiums and twice the toys. Cheap to buy and cheap to run. Perfect family car.
Very comfortable, large family car with a huge amount of space in the cabin and boot. Low price for what you get. Loaded with toys like dual zone climate control, traction control, prestige sound with 6 stacker. Australian built as well.
Very common for the mixer shafts in the dual zone climate control to break, expensive dash-out repair. Brake shudder is fairly common, though easily fixed with a good quality set of rotors.

This car travels well on the open road, it's a better option than XT or Futura as it's quieter and has more features for about the same second hand money. The performance on PULP is not worth extra dollars. The standard tyres work well on package it will give many expensive euros a run for the money due to cheapness and lack of expensive repairs.
Very good travelling car, handles okay, good gearbox, tows well, digital information on fuel economy accurate, great headlights, quite as lots of sound deading.
Fuel economy around town, rear seat access difficult for large people as doors don't open excessively wide has a tendancy to wobble at high speads around right hand corners.

I Had the AU 3 Fairmont great car, then went to the BA fairmont. Much lighter car shocking cheap plasticky interior for a Fairmont (Obvious money saving went on there). And the brakes remachined front at 23.000 kms, then complete new pads and rotors 3 times now and up to 160.000 kms ford didn't want to know about it even under warranty. Figured out the cheapest way to fix it and oddly the cheapest brake pads at $29 a set have lasted the longest. Yes the car is now 7 yrs old but the backend has always clunked and banged and made all sorts of noi...Read more
ses which are apparently Normal according to ford. Air bag indicator lite keeps coming on, 3 times now that has been fixed, funny how u never have these issues in other cars but there "Normal". Ford customer service is very sad now 28 years I have had fords and the next car will be something different and nicer. Leaving the ford camp forever to many "Normal" issues. Good solid large safe bullet proof car, drive it all day cant kill it. Bad on brakes, very noisy backend, cheap interior, heavy on fuel.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Joy to drive
I have the 2003 Ghia with satnav sunroof V8 etc. I've owned the car for a few years and driven interstate regularly, this car will get you to your destination without fatigue, very comfortable and has incredible torque from the 5.4 litre 24 valve V8 with variable cam timing. The handling of the Ghia with it's upgraded sports suspension is perfect when married to good tyres. An after market exhaust designed for an XR8 sounds just like a V8 should.
I drive a lot of late model fleet cars like Commodores and new Falcons but always look forward...Read more
to getting back in my own BA Fairmont. Drivability, power, handleing, features, looks and comfort VCT Cam phaser needed to be replaced, dual zone air has the broken rod which is too expensive to fix. Not cheap on petrol.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Bad
Great car when everything is working but that doesn't happen very often. wouldn't recommend this car to anyone.
2003 BA Fairmont. Comfitable and smooth on the road. Plenty of power for overtaking. 90,000k from a set of tyres.
Frt brakes machined 3 times, Frt discs replaced once and since machined again and needs redoing again now at 165,000km. Engine sometimes doesn't start properly and runs rough. Hand brake need constant attention. Transmission oil cooler in radiator blew damaging transmission.
