A solid item, but I hope they continue to upgrade its features to include more Alarm options

published

I purchased this hoping to awake to a specific song as my alarm as stored on a connected device to the Google Home Mini... but no joy. I tried all the 'Spotify single song playlist' and similar workarounds suggested online without success.I'm hoping they will release functionality to allow this is a future software upgrade.

Ok Google

published

My husband and I have always been a fan of Google products. I find it useful when entertaining my toddler. It is easier to simply give commands to Google verbally while doing other tasks. Google home mini can play songs, cast news, advise about the weather. Google sometimes don't understand what I say and I have to repeat it multiple times so it is sometimes irritating.

Google mini cannot understand me

published

I thought the Google Home Mini would be fun to use but bottom line I feel it is just a toy. It sometimes can understand my question and other times it just says things with an almost random act.
It reminds me of the clapper to turn lights on and off. At first a bit of fun then a bit of a pain/ waste of time and money.
well maybe once it can understand me it may be better. Other people I've spoken with say it works fine for them but lucky me it has issues.

Great little appliance but needs more apps and better phone integration

published

Great little gadget and syncs with all the phones well. It makes for some fun times arguing with it as to what you ask and what it does especially when you ask it to play music. Overall great little time saver in doing google searches and faster than grabbing the phone to type it in yourself. Makes a great little Bluetooth speaker too.
I do wish it synced with the phone properly and that one could make calls or creates SMSes with it so they really need to do a lot more work if they want people to really use this device effectively as right now apart from Google searches and playing music it is basically a toy

Love it!!!

published

Really like it for the price. Handy to check weather, set alarm and play music. It is similar to being able to use your phone but it’s a cool gimmicky item. I think the speaker is great for sitting around having a bbq. It’s not a boom box but loud enough.

Good assistant, ok speaker.

published

The google assistant is helpful and usually knows what you are talking about. I got the google home with a Woolworths rewards deal, so can't complain if I got it free! The speaker could be improved for playing music. Overall, the google home is a good gadget at a much cheaper price than apple home pod. Would go for this any day!

cool gadget but not nesessary

published

amazing gadget, makes life very easy. good speaker for the size and really clear. very sensitive with voice recognition. however features are a little limited when it is compared to USA. we can't make calls or send text yet. will give it 5 stars when tat happens. also can't specific songs unless you have spotify premium. so a little annoying con there.

Fantastic - but phone calls don't seem to work

published

Great device - has changed my life at home. It's now my go to when i cook and keep track of how long things have been heated for. It's my alarm clock that wakes me up in the morning and let's me tell it to "snooze for 10 minutes". But i really wish they would enable the phone call function on it where i can call someone simply by asking it to, and use it as the speakerphone - "hey google.. please enable this function asap!"

Great smart speaker under 50

published

Bought few of these during xmas when it sold for under and 50 by most of retailer. It functions as my alarm clock, kitchen timer, music player, calculator, home control via Xiaomi smart light bulbs and my personal weather man. Use of these devices are limitless but I am very impressed with the quality and loudness of speaker. For such a small size it's every effective. I have it in my all rooms.

Impractical

published

While the device itself does connect quite well with my pixel 2, they do not synchronize very well. The number one feature i would have liked to use is for using voice recognition to play songs rather than having to change it myself. However the speakers are quite low quality.

Getting better with new software updates, but has less skills than Alexa

published

Google is working continually to add more features and hooks to other smart home IoT devices. They've recently added Broadlink integration with Google Home which allows you to control any Infrared / RF devices using a Broadlink Hub.

The voice recognition is extremely accurate and it can differentiate between different users.

Sound quality wise, the mono speaker on this unit plays loudly and clearly but bass is basically non-existent. If you're looking to play music around your house, it may be worth spending the $50~60 or so on Google's Chromecast Audio, or buy speakers that feature Chromecast built in.

Remarkably useful

published

I use it every day for news and weather, also hooked up to a chromecast is a great use case to launch media like Spotify and Youtube.
The response time after a command varies regularly, it regularly answers in less than a second, but can sometimes take a few seconds.

Perfect for a smart home!

published

Perfect to get your foot into turning your home into a smart home or expanding on your smart home! The google assistant is extremely useful for every tasks such as creating timers, getting the weather or simple trivia. When paired with other smart home products, the value of this little donut sized speaker is shown. For example, I've paired it with all my smart light bulbs and can now turn on the lights from any room. It is surprisingly loud for such a small device and makes for a great speaker. Additionally, the look of the Google Home Mini matches well in any setting with its simplistic design. For the price it is at, it is a great product and would highly recommend!

Good toy for kids

published

I bought 2 Google Home Minis during the Christmas sale season and kids love them. This is a good toy for my kids in primary and high to ask weather and something funny. It was easy to set up and play with. I particularly liked the speaker feature that I use when I use TuneIn radio on my iPhone.

This is a great device!! LOVE IT

published

We have 4 Google Homes in our house & they are fabulous!
We love that we can play our music so easily and without having to change CD's when we want a different Genre or artist.
Google Home is learning so much as we continue to talk to her daily.
The kids love the things we can ask it.
The nieces love using it too!
One day we will automate the house with it.

Shame about the disabled top button

published

What I always felt missing was the missing top button that has been disabled due to privacy concern would have made this a little perfect device. It's abit awkward to shout over the alarm/timer/whatever to tell it to stop. it picks up your voice amazingly over great distances, and works as expected. It's a little handy companion in the kitchen and in the bedroom.

Worls pretty well.

published

If you have a google centic environment already these are pretty good. Setup with a Android phone was fairly easy for anyone. Spotify multiple room audio set up works a ok. Setting up voice control and home automation is also fairly straight forward other than controlling Android tv which is extremely limited.

As good as the normal Google Home

published

We use this one in the bedroom. There is nothing like falling to sleep with the sound of rain... coming from my Google Home Mini. We also turn off the bedroom lights without even rolling over.
The sound quality is not as good as the Google Home. but it is pretty close and we really can't tell the difference. For nice background music, it is more than acceptable. For a party, get the Google Home.
