Impossible to open

published

Lid design is impractical and impossible to open. If not changed suggest pliers or similar be sold with each item so that older users can open the lid without having to cut it off. Quality control ABSENT.

Purchased in April 2021 at Coles Online.

Cannot get the lid off. Will not buy again until improvements made to lid operation

published

Cannot get the lid off. Have tried all the tools I can find, still won’t budge. Will not buy again until improvements made to lid. Have asked around and all my female friends have same problem. Yes, we are elderly but still need to use a toilet cleaner!

Purchased in May 2021.

This is impossible

published

First time I’ve purchased Harpic white and shine. Probably be the last. This is impossible to open. How do older people open this. Not user friendly at all. Have to wait until someone can open the damn thing before I get to try it. Toilets will have to wait

Purchased in May 2021 at Coles Supermarkets for A$3.00.

Cap is Impossible to squeeze and twist off

published

The cap is too difficult to squeeze and twist off. I had to cup the tip off with a knife, to get the product out. I'm a pianist so have good hand strength and co-ordination, so it should not be hard for me to open.

Purchased in April 2021 at Coles Supermarkets.

Does not open

published

Half of these Harpic White and Shine bottles do not open, however hard you squeeze and turn, as per the directions for opening.
Poor value for money, if half the purchases can't be used.

Cannot get the lid off

I like this product but the lid is way too hard to get off (I literally can't do it if my husband isn't home) so I won't buy it again and I'm a reasonably strong 50 something.

Bad design

published

I cannot remove the lid and totally agree with other reviewers that This is a useless piece of design that should be recalled and improved. Did the company not field test the cap before putting on the market?

Impossible to open

I will not be buying this product anymore because I cannot get the lid off. I want a product that is ready to use when I am ready to use it and not have to rely on someone with stronger hands.

I like the product, BUT....

published

I like this product. Easy to use and it does the job. Unfortunately some of the caps just don't work. I can't get some of the bottles to open at all and I end up having to buy a new one and discard the unopened bottle. Bad for the environment and my wallet and my trust into the product.

Cannot open the lid

published

Reckitt & Benckiser: I cannot give your product any kind of good review if I cannot even use the product due to the lid refusing to open. I have injured myself trying. Please change the lid. I am on a low income, and cannot afford this kind of waste. The only way I am going to be able to use this is to puncture the bottle and decant to a different container, and we all know that this is a terrible practice. I will not be buying again until I am notified by some means that this problem has been addressed.

Couldn't open it!

Useless for me! The product inside the bottle is possibly very effective, but I had to return it to the supermarket as I couldn't open the lid. I'll buy another brand.

Cannot get the lid off!

published

Followed the directions EXACTLY as directed in the container, but unable to remove the red cap or squirt the contents with the cap in place!
All endeavours to remove red cap proved impossible.
Finally resorted to cutting the end of the red cap, and the exposed white tip of the container, to access the contents.
Will never buy the product again, or recommend it to others.

Can't get the lid off!!

Unfortunately this has been in my bathroom for a very long time and after several attempts and swollen fingers, I give up! Such a waste of money! Will be buying another brand from now on!

Great product: BAD lid!

This cleaner is fantastic, way better than others used in the past, however as lots of others commenting: The lid is too hard to open, especially for us with arthritis! Am constantly waiting for hubby to come home & open or other strong-handed visitors!

I can't get the lid off

Why do you make the lid so impossible to twist off? I am squeezing on both sides but it won't budge. What a waste of money. Surely it should be easier than this.

Terrible lid,

I found the lid very difficult to open, had to get much stronger person to help. I am sure the elderly would not be able to manage.
Product works very well with a nice fresh smell.

The product might be good but the bottle isn't

published

Can't tell you about the product and yes i am 72. Been digging and picking the garden for four weeks now so not really a weakling. I tried pliers on the cap to no avail. Won't be buying it again so pensioner take back to store 18klms round trip. Seems i will have to try the lids and if i can't get it off will not buy product and try another brand. Will probably end up being bailed up by the store manager wondering what i am doing. We have these so called lock proof lids when are the manufacturers going to realise they do not work. Find another way that won't cost the earth. Harpic whatever you had worked before you should know the old expression, "if it works well leave it alone don't change it or move it".

Excellent product if you are able to get the cap/lid undone!

published

The squeeze and twist lid must have only been tested by a person with a very strong grip. Had to get my son to undo the lid for me. When he finally got the lid off and I could try it in my toilet, I found it worked extremely well. Definitely not a lid for frail little old ladies.
product worked extremely well, better than any others I have tried
definitely needs a better designed cap (lid)

Shine Bleach Gel

is Harpic White and Shine suitable for septic systems? there is no indication on the container one way or the other

Not certain, but I should think if not, then packaging would indicate as not suitable for septic as other products often do. To be sure, best contact Harpic direct.

Has anyone found a way to open the damned lid? As an older woman, with arthritis, and a even older husband (who is fit and healthy) neither of us can get the lid off - the so called "squeeze and turn" just doesn't work. We have no younger family members living nearby as we live in the country and are a 45 minute drive to the supermarket so we can't just "pop down to the shop" to get a refund or replace it with a container we can open. I'm guessing all of the Harpic products now have the same type of lids..... which means I'm going to be looking for a different brand with a different lid next week when I do the 90 minute return, once a fortnight, trip to the "local" supermarket.

I usually use an adjustable wrench (or a similar tool like a nutcracker, because I have lots of tools at hand).
Turn the lid anti-clockwise till it stops.
It then needs something that will fit very snugly around the top half of the lid, where there is a smooth strip on opposite sides, so that you can exert a small amount of pressure as you turn it anti-clockwise.
Once you have managed to undo the lid for the first time, it then only needs a slight squeeze with your fingers on the upper part of the smooth strips to undo it again after you turn the lid till it stops. Or otherwise don't screw it back on for more than a couple of turns.

Harpic is a very good brand. They put out a new perfume in a white bottle which had a nasty cap. I do like the way the bottle works getting under the rim of the toilet. I now use one with a green lid. The idea is to push in both sides of the cap more to the bottom of the cap and twist. If you are having trouble mutilate the lid with something like a hacksaw, stilsens etc., be careful not to hurt yourself or if you get the lid off leave it off but put it in a safe place or again put plastic and a rubber band over the opening. Perhaps Harpic should look into changing the lid or putting out a choice of lid?

I love this bleach. It's fantastic & way better than anything used in past, however I have exactly the same problem opening the lids. Have to wait for hubby to come home & open it for me!
