BK (Hatchback) R+ Auto (2016-2020)

Wondering what experience others have had with turnaround under warranty. Under 2 yo Astra r+ has so far had confirmed blown piston and cracked piston head - currently investigating whether its damaged the bore - to which Ive been told thisll mean a full engine replacement (26k on the engine!!). Im pushing for a courtesy car because Im stuck 30ks from the service centre with 3 kids and no car. while Im giving the dealer the chance to get things done (they havent finished their warranty process yet - but Ive been told their warranty lady goes on leave tomorrow) Im worried if I dont start to push Ill be stuffed for at least another week. Would appreciate some guidance on a way to expedite the process - no doubt Holden hasnt even had anything through from the dealer as yet.

Hi my Astra 2016 R model central locking only unlocks the driver’s side door. I have to press the lock unlock function to let my passengers in once I’m inside the car. My model doesn’t have keyless entry. How do I get my central locking to unlock all doors?

What do people think of the Holden Astra R BK 16/17? Are they lemons? I've test driven one and really liked it but I've heard the Astra can be unreliable. I'm not sure if that's associated with earlier models though. I really liked the car but should I be concerned it would die on me or something?

Astra BK (Hatchback) (2016-2020)

My 19yr daughter just picked up a second hand MY17 BK astra with 39,000km, yesterday afternoon. Today it is shuddering when she stops at lights/roundabouts etc and the check engine light is on !! She is very disappointed, having only had it 24 hours and its already been back to the service centre for an hour and a half thismorning to get a leaky tyre valve replaced. Does anyone have and advice or similar experience ? Thanks in advance

Honest advice: SELL IT. Astras are not good cars. They are expensive to fix. They have lots of continuous problems. They are German cars with a "Holden" badge. Holden charges an arm and a leg. Buying an Astra is the start of sliding down a slippery slope.

Not a huge issue and should be covered under warranty, direct injection engines are very shaky cold but good once warmed up
Just a feature of that type of engine

Most likely sounds like you have an intake or air fuel mix problem, dealer should sort it under stat warranty

Ignore the poster above, Astra for me is good and many others, service it on time and keep it well looked after and you should easy see 200,000km out of it

I have owned one for 15 months. Very well fitted out and a powerful engine. I love driving it - I own V8s as well and I find myself really enjoying driving the Astra. Seats very comfy too.

Astra BK (Hatchback) (2016-2020)

Hi, I bought a new 2017 Astra RS a week ago - on the way home I realised the forward collision alert was not giving me any warning when I was too close the the car in front. I have the distance alert at the highest setting. I returned to the dealership who updated the software but it hasn't helped. Has anyone had a similar problem?

No issues with ours. It has set off a warning once when I was changing lane to go around a parked car. I was doing 60kph and left the lane change late due to a car on my right.
It will only warn you (flashing on the HUD and audible noise) if the closing speed is high. I am not brave enough to try to activate it on purpose.
Does the car icon on the dash change from green to amber when you are close to the preceding car?

Maybe once when an idiot did an unsafe lane change (no collision alert warning). I can rapidly gain on the car in front without it changing to amber.
Have you set yours to near, medium or far?
The salesman and sales manager have also put it to the test and no matter how fast or close they got to the car in front they couldn't get it to work - the sales manager said that is was because the computer was "intuitive".
The sales manager then suggested I speak to Holden customer care who suggested I speak to the dealership or the service staff so they can walk me through the correct situations.

Holden are giving employee discounts on the Astra. PM me if you're interested. I saved $6500 off the RRP on the RSV.
