Mechanically excellent so far but interior comfort is the worst i ever seen
Bought new 15.5 sx space cab chassis 4x4 and have 7000kms on the clock so far. Towed a 1.5 tonne caravan for 3000kms and its run perfectly so no issues there but what really lets this ute down is the seats. Someone here referred to them as being banana shaped and that's exactly what they are you can't sit up straight due to the backrest giving you a hunch back and headrest being too far forward forcing your head to go forward i just took the headrest out but it doesn't really make it more comfortable it really annoys because if i had a chance t...Read more
o take this thing for a test drive before buying i would have never bought it just because of the seats that's how bad they are what kind of gook thought this was ok must have had some really screwed up posture it's not only the most uncomfortable car seat i have ever sat in but it's the most uncomfortable sitting position i could imagine. The plastic arm rest is a bit low as well but whatever. So mechanically excellent although it feels pretty under powered fuel economy is pretty good with around 750 to possibly 800kms a tank if really using up every drop of diesel but i warn you test drive this thing before buying those seats are a constant irritation and I'm seriously considering selling because of it.Similar opinion? Love my D-Max
We went to have a look at the Isuzu because we needed something better to tow our caravan with, we only went to look, and we came home with a new D-Max, we fell in love with the X-Runner as soon as we saw it. It tows our caravan beautifully, has everything we want, really quiet inside, and really economical. Really good purchase price.

Blown head at 47000 kms
Car appears to have blown a head gasket at 47000km. Whilst returning from a family holiday. We were stranded at Airlie Beach with no after sales back-up. It has now been two weeks, having just returned from Airlie by hire car, which I was forced to return from Cooktown, over 1000km. The vehicle has not even been dismantled for a proper diagnosis. I still have no vehicle for work as a self-employed electrician. I have always kept up to date with my services with approved Isuzu dealers.

It's the best Tug I have had
After getting rid of a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland (that could not pull pussy up a hill) and purchasing the new LS-T Isuzu D Max 4 Door Ute,it was the best move I have ever made. I have traveled over the state of Tasmania and it hasn't missed a beat. I don't even know the van is behind me. We started in QLD and come down through NSW and VIC on our trip.

Excellent on and off road
Excellent vehicle, can't fault. It is also excellent on and off road. We have the automatic transmission and I would recommend a oil cooler for towing with an automatic of any vehicle brand. This vehicle has been up to Kalumburu and back without any problems (can't say the same with the Kimberley Kamper) Would purchase again.

Very comfortable and fantastic to drive. Love it!!
Bought our LSU D-Max in November 2016, took it to Canberra from Brisbane for a 'run', to get an idea of how it will go on a 'big' trip. I have to say we are very impressed with it. Heaps of power climbing the Toowoomba Range, and being a new motor we were surprised as to how the economy was going on the trip south, around 9-10L/100klms. By the time we had to return we were getting closer to the claimed economy, 8.8-9.5L/100klms. But still needs a few more Klms to get there. Running around NW Brisbane we are getting 8.9-9.2L/100klms. Unfortunat...Read more
ely only got around 4000klms on the clock due to an issue with the ride-on mower deciding to throw me off, and copping a spinal fracture. Ouch! Yep not good, so we are not getting out and about much at present. Even with that injury the D-Max is extremely comfortable to travel in to Doctors appointments considering our dodgy mountain road. Handling is very good, both on the mountain road corners where we live and on the straight open roads to Brisbanes' northern suburbs. Occasionally we can hear the radiator fan cut in, and the engine change gears up and down as we climb the mountain, but the noise is definitely not a concern. Considering this is a (light) truck, it is quite expected and acceptable. So far we have only had to put fuel in to it, and the Canberra trip saw us getting better tank range as we clocked up the klms. From an estimated 700klms to the tank from new (1st tank - of which the dealer filled in our presence) to an estimated excess of 900klms to the tank now. So I would assume that as we get a few more klms up it will get over 1000klms to the tank, which makes for a great tourer. Looking forward to some serious travels. Costs wise we made 5 fuel stops/top-ups from Brisbane to Canberra and return. Most impressed with how it went on the trip. We got the Tour Mate package that was on sale at the time, so didn't need to buy any immediate extras, it came with a Canopy, Tow-bar, Tub liner, Weather-shields and Bonnet protector. Very impressive package. Had we purchased when we first looked, some months earlier, we would have had to spend quite a few $$$ to upgrade to this package. Edit: 6th May 2017 - Well we have just returned from a trip out to Cameron Corner, the long way, via St George, Cunnamulla, Thargomindah, Innaminka, the Strzelecki track, and back around to the corner. Can't say how impressed we were with the D-max. Economy got down to 7.4L/100k on some sections. We did hundreds of klms in 4wd on the 'track' and the Cameron Corner road back out to Tibooburra, then to White Cliffs, there ended the dirt and 4wd. 4000klms plus. An amazingly competent and comfortable vehicle.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Strong, reliable,capable.
You can feel the strength of the truck when you drive it. While driving it you realise just how reliable it is, and, won't give you troublesome motoring. With a 3.5 tonne towing capacity, it shows you how capable it really is.

Not a bad truck, but the service is beyond sub-standard
We have Quite a few Dmaxs in our fleet. The staff love driving them and their not a bad truck on the whole. We have dealt with most of their dealerships within the BNE area and have found their service completely sub standard (not all but the vast majority to be completely accurate) to any other manufacturer we've dealt with in the past 25years, and some of those have been pretty average. I could write a list here a foolscape page long of the comedy of errors, failure to return multiple phone calls no matter what the enquiry is about (standard...Read more
practice), forgetting to book service dates into their system, supplying unregistered loan vehicles (yep you heard it), ordering of parts to fit can take multiple visits and a massive time waster (perhaps Isuzu work order HO failure?) to name a few. If They could get their stuff together they would be seriously good alround package, but I'd say the culture is well imbedded and will be difficult to break. Sad really as they seem a good truck. Just don't be afraid to go further afield and look for better service from your chosen dealer because they're not all cut from the same cloth that I know for sure. Great ute. Very economical and capable of tough tasks
My vehicle has the Pedders GVM upgrade which does result in some rigidity in the ride when empty. However when loaded to capacity, this vehicle doesnt miss a beat. Very stable. Full loading barely affects fuel economy either which was a pleasant surprise. 800km from a tank of diesel is no problem. Very reliable versus Ranger and much better value for money than Hilux. Great farm ute overall and highly recommended.

Filter Price Discrepancy
The Isuzu Dmax is s great ute can't fault it, good features and excellent mileage, it has a timing chain and no belt like other Utes the auto is worth looking at and the ride is comfortable the down side is the service costs.
Here's the facts I like using Genuine D-Max filters and discovered the original OEM version were released along with the 2012 D-max and are expensive and over double the cost of the new type re-released and sourced OEM filters
I found the cost as of FEB 2017 :
Oil:$14.39 part no.D*5876150000
Fuel:$30.11 part no.D*...Read more

A solid performer - strength not flashy
The 2012 model was restricted to 3000 Kg towing and 300 kg tow ball weight and had 4 star safety rating. Later models acknowledged the competition and upgraded the towing capacity to 3500 kg and tow ball 350 kg. The trucks are solid. The 3.0 litre Mitsui engine has been produced for a long time with minor modifications to meet increasing emissions requirements. The 2017 model I understand will see further tweaking of the engine to meet these requirements and some changes to grill, lights and basic interior upgrades. The engine and body are s...Read more
olid, at 78k kilometres I have had no issues, upgraded the suspension to allow for an increased constant load (should've considered a GVM upgrade at the time) added steel bull bar and winch, canopy drawers and I still get 9.3 km /l around town and closer to 10 km/l on the open road. Plenty of power down low with lots of torque a great package for the price. New model would benefit from a few bells and whistles to be competitive but a great basic truck.1 comment

The best 4WD & family vehicle
Beautiful car to drive, handles the road smoothly not bumpy at all like other 4WD's. Interior is nice and simple in a charcoal, comfy seats, it's a pity the back seat isn't a splitting seat as it would make putting car seats in a lot easier. Very reliable car, a full tank of diesel gets us about 850 kilometres we do a lot of highway driving. She handles off road like a dream, beach driving was very smooth.

Fantastic
Have now had my D-Max for just over twelve months, have towed our navigator camper for a few 000km in that time and have been rapped with it, great fuel economy, tows like the van is only a very light trailer not the 1.7 Tonne that it is. Have had it in 4 x 4 mode a few times and it has done every thing that we have asked of it.

By far the best ute I have had
Purchased a new D-Max LS-T in April 2015 through my Novated lease company after previously having a Navara 2.5TD (which is another horror story). I did a fair bit of research against all the other double cab utes on the market (incl Chinese and Indian). Some had a greater torque output, others with better 'offline' acceleration, comfort etc. After test driving nearly all of them, the D-Max won. It was the only true 3.5t tow capacity, in that you could still take passengers, have a full fuel tank and a bit of a load and still tow up to 3.5t. Aft...Read more
er towing my caravan with the Navara and achieving a mind numbing 35l/100km, the D-Max came in at 15l/100km which automatically convinced me I had made the right choice. On 'normal' trips and around town, am getting under 9l/100km which is pretty good. I use this ute for work and travel about 45,000km/yr, it is very comfortable, has been super reliable and feels safe on any road. Even tried the Fitzroy Development Rd between Taroom and Banana in CQLD with ESC disengaged and engaged and found the later was rock solid. Have had to use low range a couple of times both with the van and without in some tricky bits, other than the annoying beeping when in LR, this ute just climbs out of everything with minimal fuss. Am about to get new tires after 74,000km and will be opting for the Bridgestone H/T that it came with as they give me the traction I need when I need it and the low noise and comfort on the highway (where most people drive anyway). Only negatives, occassionally get a steering knock on rough roads which hasn't developed further, but will monitor. The fuel gauge light comes on followed by the level bar flashing which gives no indication on when you will actually run out, previous vehicles have counted down the kms, this one just says "low Fuel" using the mileage dash display which can be unerving when 50km+ from a servo. Also the GPS mapping is next to useless, sends you on paper roads, takes the long way and ETA's can be 30-40min out on a 200km trip. Fortunately the Garmin I have is great. The LS-T has all the bells and whistles, leather, video dash, GPS, Blue tooth etc., etc., so I am spoilt, but would easily recommend the LS-U these days to anyone who wants a workhorse and weekend toy.Similar opinion? Ok for what it is
I have a 2015 diesel D Max company supplied car and had a 2013 diesel model previously. The dash layout has been slightly revised with the clock moving from the instrument cluster to the centre console and is now part of the stereo display. The stereo comes with surround sound which is weird because there are the four front speakers two in the doors and two at the base of the windscreen A pillars and one feeble speaker somewhere in the rear as the D Max I have is a crew cab. The gear ratios have been changed slightly but unfortunately the 5 spe...Read more
ed gearbox hasn't. It still has trouble selecting the right gear and is better if used in it's manual mode. Even slowing down to turn into another road in manual mode sees the gearbox moving from 5th down to 4th and although able to pull successfully in 4th a manual change down to 3rd gives a far better response. In Drive touching the brake pedal lightly on a down grade sees the gearbox shifting down but reapplying power has the car revving until the gearbox changes up to 5th or has me doing it manually. The ride is quite good but the seats are terrible being too flat with little to no support. Like the last one there is no carpet just cheap plastic/rubber lining. Dash plastics are cheap too with squeaks. Unlike the last one there has been no mechanical problems with this car and it now has 32,000km on the odometer. Like the last one the key fob is still over sensitive and locks and unlocks at random if other keys on the key ring touch it. The wipers on this one come with variable intermittent control with 6 settings. But there is no gradual progression from maximum time between wipes to the minimum time. From the maximum time to position 4 there is no real difference but positions 5 and 6 are the minimum times. Having had two of these cars I feel they're built to a price rather than up to a standard.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Very reliable. Does what it says it will do..
I’ve had my 2014 LS-U D’Max since July 2014. It's a reliable work horse and has never given me any trouble. I’ve travelled to outback NSW and QLD, up to the gulf country, mostly on dirt and corrugated roads.
The engine and auto transmission Isuzu have used in this truck are proven performers and I’m very happy with the level of comfort it provides me on those longer trips. Sure this model doesn’t have the climate control, touch screen LCD monitor and other bells and whistles the other manufactures are offering, but that’s not what I was a...Read more
fter. I was looking for reliability, safety and longevity. I'm very happy with the handling of the vehicle considering its size. The noise of the diesel is clacky when sitting at the lights, but its an old school diesel, and to be honest, I kidda like it. Towing has never been an issue and will carry my off-road camper with ease, almost to the point I don't know its there at times. It has around 65,000k’s on it now, and not even a rattle. When I first bought the vehicle the fuel economy was pretty good, and was very close to what the manufacturer stated, once I added the bulbar, winch, canopy, roof racks, aux battery, fridge and toolbox, that all went out the door. However, around town it’s still around the 10 litres per 100km, and doesn’t move much from there even out on the highway. Again for the weight I’ve added, I’m happy with that. I have recommended this vehicle to friends and two of them have bought the 2015 model. They're also very happy with there choice.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
