Great allrounder
This car is used for for commuting and towing our van. We use it most days in a mix of city and country driving. We service this car as per Isuzu spec, but may do more oil changes as I would like to see the oil kept cleaner. We have had this car for nearly 40,000 and had no issues whatsoever. These are a very basic car, with few bells and whistles, but they have a very good engine. Towing the van (17 foot) returns 13l and, country driving, can get down a low as 7.5l. My wife drives this car mostly in a mix of city driving, with some country, and, has no regard for fuel economy, she gets 9.5 to 10l mostly.

Brings a smile to my face
Purchased this car with a view to towing a van in a couple of years. I am a car nut and did a lot of research and realised that the Isuzu is not high tech or rated the best in class but the pricing and reputation for reliability interested me. This is to be a 10 year car. A test drive convinced me, the driving experience, a bit like a comfortable Massey Ferguson tractor, put a smile on my face. Now 4 months down the track I still love driving it, the engine is a bit gruff, but characterful, reasonably economical and it is surprisingly quiet onc...Read more
e cruising, even with AT tires I had fitted. I love the understressed nature of it, Negatives: a bit noisy around town, low tech stereo, a bit of body roll, small fuel tank. Positives:ARB long range tank $1300 is a good accessory, cruises easily, economical, ride quality, good sound quality from stereo, long warranty, price (haggle) ......hopefully reliability, so far so good...

Basic reliable white goods on wheels
Our MUX was purchased about 2 years, 30,000 kms ago as a replacement for our 2015 Subaru Outback, itself a good car. As we needed something more appropriate to tow our camper trailer. After spending a working lifetime (35 years), driving 70 Series land cruisers and Hi Luxes around the country I knew I'd like a change from these highly capable if somewhat uncomfortable steeds.
After doing some research we decided the Isuzu Mux could be the best choice, especially after reading the user reviews in Product Review as it seemed to be the car that h...Read more

Excellent Vehicle
Two years after purchasing new, the MUX is performing as expected with no problems experienced and just scheduled services. Used for long distant drives as well as around the paddocks towing a trailer. Sometimes pulls a caravan when needed for holidays.
Very comfortable on the open road and economical averaging 9 litres per 100km and 12 when towing.
Replaced my isuzu ute based on its own reliabilty over 320,000 kms with this MUX and very happy i did.

Worth the wait
Brought this car a month ago, this is my first automatic car and have found it great. Its a bit to get throw the gears but Im probably too use to a manual. The whole car is luxury from the leather seats to the electric add ons. Eg tv and air con in the back for the kids. I use this car for longer drives but have taken it to work, the reverse camera makes parking easy. Love this car.

Love the purr of this tough diesl family 4WD
I'd give a 6 if I could. I love this car. We haven't had any issues with it. It is strong and powerful for towing the trailer when needed. It fits 7 people comfortably. The sound system is excellent for listening to music or podcasts through bluetooth. The leather seats make it that little bit luxurious. We are impressed with the 3 tonne towing capacity and yet it is efficient on fuel consumption. It has the same engine as our Isuzu Dmax ute, that was sadly written off. Just a great all rounder family car that can also be used for towing and fa...Read more
rm work. The dvd player is an added bonus which the kids love. Everyone in the back can see the screen and great audio quality. The cost to get it serviced is not exorbitant like other brands and only required every 10000 kms. We purchased this car for half the price of what a Toyota equivalent would have cost so we couldn't be happier. Thanks!Purchased in January 2021 for A$39,000.00.

I've grown to love this noisy beastie that can tow houses up mountains!
Besides for being a little noisy, the engine in this vehicle is phenomenal. I tow a Majestic Knight SLE (20'6") packed up to almost 3.0 ton with very little effort. Fuel consumption towing (about 13 l/100) is equivalent to many vehicles unladen effort! With the updated interiors, the feeling of being in a much more expensive vehicle cannot be passed by. Our MU-X has just turned one years old, and every indication is that it'll still be with our family for many, many years to come. Zero problems or issues to date.

Had it a month starting to love it.
I bought my MU-X about a month ago.
The first morning I was immediately alarmed at the engine rattles.
Never had a diesel before, so the rattles at cold start up gave me a fright.
But after speaking to others with diesels and a month of driving it, I now understand its just "A DIESEL" its a nice car to drive and the noises are all normal.
Towing my 1500 kg boat is a dream, the car shrugged off the weight like no other car I have ever had.
Hills are no barrier and it cruises comfortably with no apparent effort.
The car sees predominantly freeway...Read more

Lots of small issues. Car feels unfinished.
Bought this car in 2017 to use for commuting to work and the occasional towing.
Within the first few weeks I noticed things going wrong. Started with using oil, had an oil consumption test but it only used about 300ml per thousand kms. Turns out that Isuzu is ok with that so they won't cover it under warranty and its my problem to deal with. I bought a new car so I wouldn't have to top up the oil regularly. Lately I found out that when I tow about 2 ton the oil consumption goes through the roof, it used about a 1L for a 40km trip. Isuzu have ...Read more
offered to do another oil consumption test, but unless I'm towing during that time, it won't be any different and they won't fix it. Other issues are related to the bluetooth being really had to connect to. Often the phone connection button is just greyed out so you can't click on it. Hands free is unusable as it sounds like you have a gas mask on and no one can understand you. Can't change the time on the clock as the button is also greyed out. If anyone opens a back window even at slow speeds around town all the windows have to be opened to deal with the wind noise. Keys are so sensitive that if you lock your car you have to carry them till you are out of range otherwise it will unlock your car just by putting them in your pocket. Bought a manual as I prefer them. Pretty sure the synchro is rubbish as it often grinds between 2nd and 3rd gear and you have to be stationary to go from 2nd to 1st gear. Which is annoying if the lights change colour as you are slowing down for them.Purchased in August 2021 at Jackson Motor Company for A$41,000.00.

Great car at a reasonable price.
After much research on medium sized SUVs capable of towing a medium sized Caravan we settled on the Isuzu Mu-x. We were set on the Toyota Prado but found that we couldn't justify the extra $20k when the Mu-x had everything we wanted. We've only had it for 2 weeks and are yet to tow anything but we are happy with the car. Yes it sounds like a ute to drive but we don't mind this as it's only noticable driving around town and we do most our driving on a highway.
Our must haves were 3lt turbo diesel engine, 3t towing capacity and seats that folded down flat so you can sleep comfortably in the rear of the car. We got them all and more.

2018 MU-X LST - Extensive research led me to this purchase. Very happy!!
Before purchasing a new 4WD I checked out and drove the Toyota Prado, Toyota Fortuner, Holden Trailblazer, Mitsubushi Pajero Sport and the Isuzu MU-X. In the end the Isuzu offered the best value for money and promised greatest durability. Toyota currently has too many issues with their 2.8 Diesel, the Trailblazer's are chewing through oil and the Pajero Sport was too narrow for knees because of the wide transmission tunnel.
The MU-X tows our all-terrain camper trailer with plenty of grunt and stability. It's very capable off-road and my wife a...Read more

Date of delivery 12 Dec 17 - Ferntree Gully Isuzu
If you believe it is both common courtesy and professional not to forget a customer after the contract has been signed and vehicle delivered then you should find Ferntree Gully Isuzu to be very courteous and professional as I have to date.
Other reviews about the softness of the suspension are correct, however, you quickly get used to this quirk and a proper driving technique more than compensates for a soft suspension. I am informed by wealthy friends the NAV system is a bit dated and “...Read more
clunky” compared to more modern systems on far more expensive vehicles. However, it does the job as well as Google maps from my observations to date. Fuel economy is great and the vehicle has achieved about 7.5 litres per 100km on a mix of country, freeway, off the black top, suburban, and peak hour grind for the first 7000 km. It had a bull bar, tow bar, and snorkel fitted prior to delivery. I have not yet needed to engage 4WD high or low yet which would no doubt affect fuel consumption. The DPF cleans itself without fuss every 500 plus km and the process takes less than 10 minutes regardless of speed / driving conditions from my experience. Potential buyers would be well advised to read what some Toyota owners are saying about their experiences with DPF self cleaning / regeneration on this website and more concerning, the Toyota response, or lack thereof. I would also recommend you do your research on “Ad blue” before you buy a vehicle using that. Sales staff do not mention it all while you are researching what vehicle is best for you.Similar opinion? Isuzu Mux, forget the rest
We purchased a Dmax in 2015 for a company car and compared to the other items out there absolutely loved it. Our family car was recently showing its age and needed some money spent on it so we decided to go with the MUX. You can’t get better for value for money compared to the others and it’s more refined than the Dmax (eg lower engine noise) that keeps the wife happy. We are now a Isuzu family and are looking forward to years of trouble free motoring ahead.

For a new car, no problems
I picked up my new Isuzu MU-X, LS-U on the 09 September 2017. The car has already traveled 9,106 kilometers. Been from Gympie to Longreach and back plus all places in between then, from Gympie to Kuranda and back and all places in between. The 3 liter diesel in combination with the Aisin six speed electronic automatic transmission is a magic matching. I can sit on the freeway doing 110k's in sixth gear and the engine is doing 1,700 r.p.m. At this time I cannot fault it, will see how it is in 100,000 k's or so.
Well here it is Feburary 2018, ...Read more
already! The MU-X has now done just over 18,000 klms, amazing. I am waiting for some kind of problem to arise, but nothing. I was told that every new car has some sort of issue, that is why, in the past, I have always bought cars that have down enough kilometres to have the bugs worked out of them well, in this case, that principle has been well and truly debunked. I suppose, if you could call the rubber over the contact switch that turns off the rear interior light falling off a problem then, I have had a problem but, something which took a Phillips screwdriver and about two minutes of my time to fix, in my estimation, could hardly be referred as a problem. Well done Isuzu. Truthfully, I cannot find one thing to grumble about and believe me when I say, I AM LOOKING!! Running costs, tick. Legroom. tick. Handling, tick. Five Star ANCAP rating, tick. Price, trick. Creature comforts, tick. Even the Ministry for War, Treasury and Finance (my wife and life long friend), is still happy with THE TRUCK!!! See you in another 10,000 k's or so, until then we are off exploring, I love this sunburnt country, Well, here we are again, 32,000 Kilometres are up, heading for the $400.00 40,000 klms service. No problems with the car but, I am feeling that I have been conned by the dealership. Had to have a wheel alignment done at fifteen thousand k's. The guys at the tyre shop just grinned and said; "if I had a dollar for every wheel alignment I have had to do on a new car, I would be a millionaire, the dealership, no matter what they say they do not do them." Of course, when I asked the dealership, vehement denials, "of course we do a wheel alignment!" Who do you believe? Bit sus, wheel alignment at 15,000 and 30,000 klms. What about the front wheel bearings being repacked at 30,000 klms, I drove my Toyota Avalon for 100,000 klms and never had the front wheeel bearings repacked! Once again sus! The vehicle itself is no problem at all, just the service department, once I have the 40,000 klm service done I do not think I will be returning to the dealership. Here we are, just paid the rego and insurance on the truck, burnt a hole in me pocket it did. Never mind grasshopper, things will be okay. Havn't been anywhere of late, rebellion on the part of she that must be obeyed, fortunately, other half can see what I am typing. 38.000 and a bit k's, no real problems. Tyres are showing wear a bit to quickly for my liking will replace them with Coopers when there gone, never did like Dunlops. At 186cms I am finding that if I come at the truck from the side I bash my head on the tailgate, alright if I approach the rear open door from the centre, maybe a little more clearance wouldn't go astray, minor niggle.1 comment

The best 4WD on the market
This car is the best selling 4WD after the Prado. There's a good reason for that, do your own research but leave out the opinions of the "advertising biased" magazines. According to these 4WD experts the Fortuner is the best car yet the MUX outsells is 3 to 1.
Now my opinion, this car is the best value for money vehicle by far. Fuel economy, towing, features, servicing costs, spare parts, life expectancy etc etc. nothing beats Isuzu engine reliability, forget Toyota, they're talking about their petrol engines, not diesel.
Negatives are it doesn't have a self closing rear hatch! That's it.

Test drove
I took an LST model for a test drive, I was not too impressed with the engine noise after started the car, it took like 15 minutes of riding for the engine noise to settle, during this 15min time I felt driving our old toyota diesel fj40 1981.
I think the car suspension and steering needs to be reviewed as I felt the car too loose, was not a good feeling taking a corner or trying to steer around.
I felt a lag on the engine response when you press the pedal, but once you are around 80kms response feels ok, but not great.
The finishes of theninterior are pretty good and dont feel cheap.
The equipment of the car is pretty good but I would sacrifice equipment for a better handling as the fortuner (tested and buying it).

Just love the drive
Beautiful to drive, very high up off the ground, stunning interiors. Much noisier than my old Mazda 3, but much nicer all round. They nailed the interior, perfect.
Only just got car so can not comment on reliability. Running costs excellent. Very good handelling, however reversing such a tall vehicle can be challenging even with reversing cameras.

0. Am finding my choice of colour, Havana Brown mica, a bit of a fizzer. The paint seems to have a whitish undercoat, with a result, it shows even the smallest of scratches or stone chips. White under brown, not a good idea. If you are as pedantic as I am, I would advise you to stay away from the darker colours. As everything wears in a bit, THE TRUCK, seems to be becoming an even better performer, sounds like a tractor when the engine is cold but, when it warms up it settles down. I drive by ear, and I do not mind a bit of engine noise as it tells me what is going on. My wife gets annoyed when I say, "what's rattling", as she has to find it and quiten it. I am not noted for having a light foot, the service report from the dealer recomended, upon questioning the cars computer, and I quote "it is advised that to obtain better fuel economy you refrain from accelerating so heavily" unqoute. Maybe I will follow their advice. I am averaging 10.2 litres of fuel per 100 klms but, that is with the climate control set to 23 degrees and on at all times, in the heat we have been having, you would fry otherwise. In the old scale that is 27.69 miles per gallon, I've driven Holden Kingswood's that did worse than that. I had an Austin Freeway 6 cylinder Automatic that on its best day did 17 miles per gallon so, all in all, as far as I am concerned, not bad at all. Am also finding the rear cargo cover to be finicky and not worth the effort, it now resides in the shed. Not having the dealer fit a towbar pre-delivery was another mistake, also, the rear power outlet had to be upgraded with heavier wiring to handle the fridge, freezer I bought, also fitted a relay so that the fridge did not run with the ignition turned off. Would advise an upgrade to this power outlet if you are going to run a fridge for any length of time. Apart from that as happy as Larry with my MU-X, well done Isuzu, but I suppose that is to be expected as Isuzu's have been Holdens in many different guises, starting with the Holden Gemini, then the Rodeo and even most Colorado's.
