Long wearing
I had a set of these Tyre's on my xtra cab hi lux, and they were a long wearing, quiet and fabulous road Tyre in both wet or dry conditions . As an off road Tyre a bit if dirt road was about it, but they are not sold as off road Tyre's . I couldn't wear them out .They were very well priced, great for highway and around town
Purchased in May 2021.

KL51 good at the start but noisy after 20k’s
The tyres did 43000 and then they sounded like a set of mud terrains and wear wearing badly although vehicle had a wheel alignment and tyre balance every 10,000
No way would they reach the 60000 as stated by Kuhmo
Also vehicle fuel consumption went up with this tyre, really easy to monitor on a Jeep Grand Cherokee

Kumho Road Venture APT KL51(265/65 17R 112H) and 80,000 km Warranty
Previously had 2 sets of Dunlop Grandtrek on my current Toyota Prado 120 Series (original set then bought 3 new tyres to go with new 'spare' tyre that had not been used in tyre rotations). Both sets lasted the SAME mileage, 54,000 km! You hear of drivers getting unbelievable mileage out of their tyres. I was looking after them, driving normally, mainly bitumen roads in the city and highways (I drive sensibly!). The only 'off road' was basically on and off tracks to beaches, on average about once every year. On 15/12/2014, I bought four K...Read more
umho Road Venture APT KL51 tyres from Bosman Tyres at Beatty Road Archerfield Qld which they balanced, fitted and aligned wheels. Kumho had an 80,000 km pro-rata warranty on these Road Venture APT KL51 tyres but as part of the warranty terms and conditions the tyres needed to be balanced, rotated and wheels aligned every 10,000 km. I thought I'd give it the best attempt I could at getting more mileage from my tyres. Bosman Tyres were great with the deal and at the time of purchase we also locked in a set price for each 10,000 km regular balance, rotation and alignment (which I did after every 10,000 km vehicle mechanical service which is a good reminder too). I noticed the Kumho tyres were softer riding than the Dunlops but they were about $70 cheaper than the Dunlop Grandtreks that I had been quoted from a "Dunlop Wholesaler". I have owned two Prado vehicles and had always found this particular Dunlop dealer to be very competitive and had always stuck with Dunlop Grandtrek tyres seeing they were the original tyres on the new vehicles. I wanted to try another brand of tyre to see if I could beat 54,000 km. After all this, the Kumho Road Venture APT KL51 (265/65/17R 112H) lasted 54,000 km (I kid you not) by March 2018 (3 year + 3 months). The same distance as the Dunlops Grandtrek tyres lasted earlier. The tyre that started on the front passenger side had rotated around the vehicle and back to the front passenger side position for the 40,000 - 50,000 km period and had become bare, past the wear indicator on the tyre. The other front tyre was close to being illegal and the back two tyres probably had about another 3,000 - 5,000 km left to wear. This was after doing everything by the book. I still had 26,000 km left on my warranty. I spoke to Bosman Tyres since it was pointless doing the 50,000 km rotate, balance and alignment since one tyre was kaput, one was close to illegal and the other two were soon to be needing replacement. My view was the warranty was for the "set" I had bought and the "set" had not lasted 80,000 km when I had done everything by the warranty conditions. Bosman Tyres were great again. They inspected the tyres, took the tread measurements for each tyre, phoned the Kumho representative and arranged an inspection the following day. Kumho were great and the rep was there the next day. Kumho acknowledged that I had not received 32% (26,000 km of the 80,000 km) of the warranty mileage and this amount (32% of my original buying price) would be credited to a new set of Kumho tyres. The value of the warranty program to me now hinged on the price of the new set of Kumho tyres. Bosman Tyres and Kumho negotiated a very good deal for the new set of tyres and I appreciated the fairness of the business dealings. The price reduction, due to the warranty credit, was from a very good starting price. I ended up getting a new set of Kumho Crugen HT51 (265/65/17R 112T) which are a newly designed tyre that has a squarer shoulder and will eventually replace the KL51. Too early to give any feedback on the Crugen HT51 but all seems OK the first few days.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Third set that have failed due to delamination
This is the third set of KL51's I have had on my car and at least 2 of the tires on every set have failed due to delamination before they are 50% worn. No, I don't drive on rough roads or abuse the tires! I have given the tires the benefit of the doubt twice but third time that's it. Of course the dealers and Kuhmo don't want to know you when you have a problem. There has to be a weakness in the construction of the tire!
Have now changed over to a Goodyear tire.

Kumho Tyres
I purchased 4 new Kumho tyres (from Tyrepower) and has them fitted. I was after something that was good in the wet, and they definitely seem to fit the bill. The guys at Tyrepower in Berwick were super helpful and nice, and were done quicker than expected. When I drove out, compared to the old ones, they felt like I was driving on a cloud!

Not bad 4 bush bashin & quite reasonable on the road
Having had 2 sets of these over around 130.000 k/s long an short when I bought the ole girl it had real 4wd boots on it long and short far 2 noisy on a regular road but these kumhos are not all that loud 4 nomal drivin so I've stuck with them dous most of the off roading setup fairly well 1 just hasta take a little more care but long an short they are pretty good 4 bush bashin.
November 21st 2017 Update: Not a bad boot
Not really brilliant for 4wdriving but as long as you take certain things into consideration they do a plurry good job but on the main rd they are dam near as good as any road tyre I/e hang on reasonably well but road noise is not 2 bad compared 2 some real 4wd boots long an short not a bad bit a gear at all.

Great Tyre for the money
I first purchased APT KL51 Kumho tyres 3 years ago for Toyota Kluger. they were rated 80,000 km. I think the tyre is a bit of an all rounder but leans towards bitumen roads. Get real you can not have it both ways. I live on a dirt road and I replaced the tyres at 60,000 with the same. The only reason the tyres did not last the distance is because I never had a wheel alignment and only 2 rotations during the life of the tyre. For the price they are great value. Three years ago I paid about $1,100 from Kmart fitted with alignment.
The second ti...Read more

Delamination when only 50% worn!
Was loving these four tyres that I bought to replace the noisy original bridgstones on the RAV4 back in December 2010.
225/65/17
6 years later exactly, 58km's and only 50% wear- two of them (at least) have gone badly out of round after a couple of hour round trip on the hot summer highway.
I am a mechanic and was looking after these things like never before.
Was happy with every aspect of these and was on track for 100km's of life out of them till this happened.
Would you replace only two out the four when they came from the same batch?
I think not!
So I am in the market for another set- once bitten, twice shy- not kumho.
If it wasn't for this, I would have been up round the 4 star area- ho hum

not impressed
I purchased a second hand 4wd a year ago that had 4 new APT KL51 tyres on it. I have my tyres rotated & balanced every 5,000kms and I average 20-25,000kms/ year. So the tyres are being rotated & balanced every 3-4 months.
One tyre lasted a mere 10,000km after becoming out of round and unevenly worn, causing bad vibrations through the steering. I emailed Kumho and got no reply. (clearly not interested in customer service)
The other tyres I find puncture easily and now have had all tyres repaired at some stage and they've done less than 20,000kms. I've never had experienced such problems before with other tyre brands and have decided enough is enough. I'm replacing them tomorrow with another brand.
Good bye Kumho!!!

Don't drive on wet roads
These tyres were on my 4wd that I bought secondhand last year. They were at less than half life. Great in dry conditions, but I have had 2 instances of the rear tyres losing traction on wet roads, the first when turning at traffic lights, the second when on a roundabout. Both instances were at relatively low speed. I would not even consider replacing them with the same tyres.

Great improvement in ride comfort
We have now run these tyres for 10,000 km on our Isuzu D- Max which we use as a tow tug for our fifth wheel caravan. The vehicle was originally fitted with Bridgestones. Fitting the Kumhos improved the ride significantly and reduced road noise. The improvement in ride comfort is particularly impressive when the ute is running empty. Tread wear is looking good so far.

Reasonable tyre but the warranty is worthless
I bought four of these tyres last year, swayed by the mileage warranty. As they got close to the wear limit they became dangerous in the wet. They had worn away by less 32,000 kilometres and Kumho ducked and weaved to avoid their obligation. It became so hard I went and bought some Falken's instead.

Slippery when wet
I purchased this tires 2 months ago. Did not notice any problem with them to start out with. Then I had to drive 250 miles in the rain. If I exceeded 55 mph I was putting my life in my hands. At first I thought maybe it was because of road groves. But had the same experience on new paved highway. Will not purchase again at any price.
Hydro planes at very low speed.

How good are these tyres !!!
We bought our Kia Sorento in May 2012, Kumho tyres came as standard. Last service with Kia @ 61,190km advised tread 4mm all round (min legal depth 1.5mm). We tow a Jayco pop top weighing 1950kg quite a bit, so, are we happy with our KL51 tyres? You bet we are :)

Kuhmo tyre delamination problems.
Purchase four new tyres for my Kia Grand Carnival had two tyres delaminating causing severe vibration in less than 12,000 km. Will not trust them on vehicles that goes on long trips, the bus have a space saver spare which can be very problematic if you caught somewhere in the outback. Kumho 225/70R16 102T KL51

Just fitted
I have just had 4 KL51's fitted to my 2011 KIA Sorento (235 65r17) after reading some of the reviews.
Got them from Bossman tyres at Archerfield. Friendly service, great price. As I've only driven up the highway back to Ipswich I can't give a full review, but the tyres didn't seem any louder than the Nexen's, tracked straight and felt better.

So far so good on CRV 2007
Replaced all four tyres with the KL51, wheel alignment and balancing all done about 2 months back. Took the car on a road trip for 5 days travelling on Bitumen and unsealed road. Tyres being new performed very well, alot of ride comfort and less noise compared to the old set of tyres.
Took it sand dune (Gnangara Pines) driving last weekend, let the tyre pressure down to 18psi and was doing ok. Lowered it to 14psi and the amount of grip was fantastic for a road tire like this. Gnangara Pines has very soft/fine sand and these tyres managed ve...Read more
ry well. These are rated to last up to 80,000km (from memory) so will see how it stacks up over time when I do the odd off-roading with mostly city driving. Planning to take it to gravel roads and muddy pads for testing in the future. Looking to provide an update in a few months time. 5 April 2016 - Almost 1.5 years has gone since I acquired these tyres. Thought I give everyone an update of how it held up. I can only say I am most impressed. Firstly, I am not a daily driver that does long distances but we do bring it out to the unsealed road for action around once or twice a month. That will give some context on my usage pattern. They work a treat since my driving is mostly (90%) urban and others (10%) unsealed. The tyre holds its pressure quite well compared to my last set (which had to be checked every week)... it might have been a really old set of tyres. These Kumho ones still look brand new with plenty of thread left, I have probably done about 35,000 km on it. It is still comfortable to ride on, the noise is minimal and vibrations are non-existent. To maintain the mileage warranty, you need to take it in every 10,000km. I stopped doing it after 20,000km, as my vehicle alignment is seldom off and I don't see a point putting in more money every 10,000km for an alignment ($80). Although I still have free wheel rotation and balancing from KMART Tyres. I am waiting for it to hit 40,000km before I bring it in for an alignment. I am confident these threads will last another 20,000km for my style of driving. 12 Oct 2017 - it is almost three years since i bought these Kumho's. I am starting to notice the ride comfort is going off a tiny bit. But overall it is very good and plenty of thread left. No complains and definitely money well spent. 5 May 2018 - it is over 4 years since I installed them. I am nearly wearing out the threads. Still has a few mm left. As expected, when it gets to this stage of wear, you would expect the ride quality to be not as good as before and road noise is louder. However, it is still providing sufficient traction during wet days. Am considering whether to buy the same or try something different. For safety, will look to replace before next Winter.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Great tyre - excellent wet/dry towing
probably one of the best tyres I have used.
I got 50k and that was 50% towing and lots of offroad driving over quartz schisty ground ( no roads) in WA.
Zero flat tyres and no chipping of tread, this was with the 255/60/r18 XL
replaced and kumho gave me one for free under the warranty. (60k)
great all round tyre- just buy them they are worth it.

Great price and Product
Got them for my Land Rover Discovery 2 td5. I paid $173 ea for all 4 from Bosman Tyres, on the edge of Brisbane. Really professional service, I might add.
Huge improvement in handling, comfort and sound. The grip I have now is my main point of praise. I seem to get better traction and I hope this translate to better fuel economy...well as best as can be expected from the truck.
Price, features, long warranty.

Great Service
At this stage this is more about the service than the product.
I had to get new tyres fitted asap for a road worthy and the people at Bridgestone Select Salsbury particularly ARRON bent over backwards to be helpful, and found me the right tyres- Kumho KL51's, (getting them specially delivered that afternoon while I waited) at a genuinely competitive price. From the drive home from Brisbane to Bundaberg we found the roadholding excellent though a little noisy which I expect to decrease when they wear in.

G'day Ray
Mine were fitted to a Grand Cherokee and handled well in wet and dry, they were quiet and responsive until they were about 40% worn and then they became dangerous in the wet.
My concerns came when they wore out at an alarming rate (I assume as a result of living down a long and winding road) and all but refused to honour the 80k klm warranty. The warranty they offer requires you to first purchase your next set of Kumho tyres before they decide if they are going to honour the warranty, because the tyre fitters (Bob Jane) aren't willing to take the chance that they wont. I suppose that if they do honour the warranty they will then reimburse you the warranty component.
Unfortunately if they decide they wont honour the warranty you are stuck with a second set of tyres that you know are going to wear out in 30k kilometres and have had to pay full price for.
On the other hand, if your "serious travelling" means lots of long straight country miles then they will probably go the distance - but then anything will.
regards
David
Hi David
I am sorry that your tyre shop has not looked after you correctly regarding warranty. You are not required to purchase another set of Kumho tyres. If you have a warranty issue bring the tyre in question into an authorised Kumho Platinum Dealer and we will inspect the tyre and replace it on the spot if it is indeed a faulty tyre.

I am about to replace tyres on my 2009 Pajero and I read conflicting reports re Kuhmo tyres, some say great tyres and some reports say noisy and slippery in the wet.All very confusing.
How have you found your Kuhmo tyres so far?
1 answer
Hi John, my Kumho KL51 are performing very well. There is significantly less road noise and much less vibration compared to the Bridgestone that came with it. But then again, the KL51 is brand new and with all new tyres, when new they perform and are comfy. I am equally curious in about 10,000 or 15,000km's time, would I be complaining about it then? Only time will tell but at least, from when they are new there are no complains from me and that's a good start.
