New technology reborn this old tired torch.
I purchased a new Maglite 2AA LED the other day based on the fact that I wanted to try the new tech that Maglite are putting out - and to be brutally honest they got it right! The older single function LED's that they brought out were a decent step forward in the right direction but these new LED's are fantastic!
So what's the difference about the new Maglight LED to the old? Well it has 4 modes of use unlike the old which only had 1 'on and off'. The modes on the new Mag 2AA LED - 1) Full beam light power, 2) Dimmer beam light power (25%), ...Read more
3) Strobe (Blinks approx. once a sec.), 4) SOS (Very handy) - these modes are controlled by turning on and off and cycling through the modes consecutively until you find your mode wanted. The light emitted from it is crisp and white light - unlike the previous series one Mag LED's - its similar to natural white light unlike the series one which was quiet warm yellow light, and they at Mag state on the pack that its about 80 lumen's and a working distance of about 140 meters (couldn't test due to inclement weather!) - but around the house and through driving rain the beam is very prominent and works beautifully from spot to flood from a slight twist of the head. From what it seems the Mag LED is exactly the same as the other Mag 2AA's in dimension, so the filter kits and pouches etc will fit and there are some pretty nifty after market items you can buy for these - including Bust A Cap ends and pouches, filter kits, wall mounts etc etc etc. Otherwise this Mag saved me some hard earned dollars on buying another LED Lenser (M5) which has the same rough output but only 3 modes (Full, half power and defence strobe) which in turn also I found that the smaller Led Lensers dont feel as secure and durable as a Maglite 2AA LED, just something feels right about the Mag in comparison to the Led Lenser???Similar opinion? OK
A good product, but the 4 mode output is really annoying, and can easily be accidentally activated if the battery contacts are not 100% clean, or if you need to constantly turn the unit on and off for whatever reason. Technical people should note that the duty cycle drops as the battery is used. IE it starts out at 100% then drops to 10% when the battery is almost dead, hence a strobe effect can be observed when rapidly moving the unit. Also the color temperature is much hotter than incandescent lamps resulting in a blue hue.
Very bright output. Good battery life. Sturdy.
I can't stand the SOS and flash functions, and the output drops as battery life goes down.

Excellent
i love maglites. they always have been a quality item. this is the smallest light in the range and it is great. batteries last quite well. the led light gives a great beam for a small light. you can adjust the beam by turning the torch. this is really lightweight and takes up next to no room in my hand bag. these seem to last forever and have a great warranty if you do have any issues. highly recommended
i have the smaller aaa mini maglite. really light and compact. hides away easily in my bag. great beam for a small torch
nothing - this is a great light
