Bad
Very basic work horse, despite superficial attempts to preety it up. Maybe for the right price it could be of benefit to somebody but i wouldnt pay a lot of money for one.
In 2005 I bought a 2003, medium wheel base,5 sp,2.4 EFI, Mitsubishi van. I had previously owned a L300 mitsubishi van but was disappointed with the new model. Although it had a bigger engine, better roadholding, streamlined shape, more space and single seats it was a poor substitute for the old L300 because the new features didnt come together to produce a better vehicle.

the express is an excellent no frills vehicle, which lasts indefinitely if the motor is well serviced and the body looked after. I am on my 3rd express, and only changed them because of changing family needs - the first 2 had plenty of life left in them. they're reasonably economic to run and maintain. the seats have good lumbar support and plenty of leg room, with the brake and accelerator placed in such a way that the right leg is sits comfortably on the accelerator - especially important on long trips.
they're tough and reliable; the fin...Read more
ish is bare bones plain, but easily made comfortable and useful; they're also versatile. they're very noisy - probably because they're not really lined in the back. the wiper lever and the indicator lever are a little bit too thin, and tend to grow brittle and snap with age. the radio is almost out of reach, and the drink holders are out of the line of sight, when replacing cups.

Terrible
IT is a cheap van with a very poor safety rating and should only be bought if you have a death wish or if you have an employee that you wish to have on perminate disablity payments, or that you may have a chance with their partner after they die in this crap van.
The van itself is low in height (compared with other vans) so access to some buildings is possible.
The vehicle because the seats are positioned ontop of the engine means two things: 1 It should not be driven by anyone taller than 5ft11 as they cannot sit up straight thus causeing back strain and could result in major spinal injury in a low speed accident.2. because there is no front on the van it is emminate that a head on crash would result in major leg damage.

If your built to the standard Japanese build you'll fit.
If you're built like an Average westerner get out the shoe horn to fit in the drivers seat.
Reliable, standard with both sides and rear door opening for cargo.
Leg room does not exist. The previous reviewer must be hobbit height to have ample leg room.I'm 6'3" and my knee hits the steering wheel when I go to use the brake, making it very dangerous. Why do they market vehicles in Australia that are not built to the populations geometry.

This is a good van for the price especially with the dual sliding doors makes loading much easier and if your a courier you do not have to run around to the other side all the time probably could do with a bit more power on the open road.
I would definatley consider another one if i need it.
Had mine 5 years now its been a good reliable workhourse with little repairs needed (i do regular services)i did have a head on collision and the mitsi's chassis which protrudes well in front of your leg space held up strong with no injury to me or my daughter but the Volvo i hit was a right off.
Uses a bit of oil i must admit. Factory stereo is crap. Central doorlocking only on rear doors. And could do with a bigger fuel tank.

Honestly it is a poorly made van which I only have cause its work supplied...although now we are trading it cause it uses too much fuel, very uncomfortable and can't fit a bull bar. As far as going the distance, it might last forever but the amount you'd pay to get it there would buy another two vans. There needs to be alot of improvements made before we would ever consider buying another one and maybe a more modern shape couldnt hurt either.

A honest, reliable and dependable van that with it's firm suspension made carrying heavy loads easy. What you see is what you get basically. However, in today's market, it is easily outclassed by newer (and much safer) rivals.
Pretty strong and reliable commerical van, ours was fitted with a 3 seater rear bench making it a 5 seater and rear windows that didn't open. The cabin was very basic, with only a 2 speaker AM/FM radio and no air conditioning. Fairly easy to drive and proved to be quite reliable over the time that we owned it. Engine wa...Read more

This is the third express I've owned. The first one, 92 model, has done 575,000 km on only it's second engine. Of late I've had to replace diff and gear box but after 575,oookm I'm happy. The new one, 06 model, has done 150,000 km so far and has not missed a beat. The radiator is an issue, not big enough. Seats are terrible, they need to be a far better quality as most of the drivers of these vans spend all day in them. A mirror on the tail gate would be nice or better still, a camera. In my work I reverse out of driveways and car parks all day...Read more
, I have put a camera on the new one and have stopped before I backed over a child. If I did not have the camera, I would have ran over the child. Overall I'm very happy with all 3 expresses. Cheap, great value for money, can't kill it with a stick, has a turning circle like a fork lift, great AC, excellent radio, works where others don't Noisy when empty, rear visibility is almost non existent. not real good on fuel (need to be gassed) engine needs to be more easily accecable. Radiator needs to be bigger. On a hot day with AC on, it gets hot. Petrol tank is way too small. Seats need overhauling.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Express Excellence
I have just purchased a 2005 2.0L EFI to replace my 1991 2.0L carby model SWB - the latter having performed faultlessly in city and highway driving for 420000km without even a head gasket blowing. The new van seems fantastic - interior fittings add a quality feel and the EFI adds much to the mechanical power. In my extensive experience over 13 years, Mitsubishi Express is THE most reliable, low service and value-for-money van on the market and with regular servicing can perform astonishing feats of longevity and hard work in every condition imaginable.
Brilliant mechanical reliability, Nice presentation in and out, extremely effective worker.
At the price Express sells for in comparison to competitors I cannot fault the vehicle.

Had one of these in the 80's and ran it into the ground, design hasn't changed much. Bought it because it came with free aircon & bluetooth (and the warranty). I'm just after a cheap reliable vehicle. I have noticed the external rubber & plastic mouldings need frequent applications of treatment or they fade. The vehicle is my mobile workshop & office, and if it lasts 5 years until I retire, it won't owe me a thing. Can't get the claimed 10.4 consumption, best I've managed is 10.8 fully laden with combination city/rural driving. Could really use...Read more
difflock or similar, try going up a steep gravel driveway and turning at the same time, rear wheels spin madly trying for traction because of the power of the engine and low gear ratios. Just need a good run-up to overcome. Cheap to buy if you get the extras thrown in, efficient, comfortable (I'm 1.8 metres tall), good turning circle, reliable, goes well fully laden with good economy, Diamond Advantage warranty is generous. Can be converted to LPG. Noisy until cargo space lined out, fuel tank could be bigger, driver's side seat belt gets jammed in door if not careful, no security or full central locking, live rear axle tramps a lot causing wheel spin on loose/wet surfaces.1 comment

, doesn't use/drop oil, servicing costs are reasonable. Won't buy another one, might keep it as a second vehicle. Much safer vans out there now, this only has an ANCAP rating of one star.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

for the money a brand new express is competing against second hand toyota hiace, and the express wins hands down.
i drive it as a courier everyday and it has an uncomfortable seating position but for the money i ended up with a brand new van, reliability, powerful aircon, and its unbeatable at parking and maneuvering through the tight city streets which i drive every day. It works hard and takes everything i throw at it.
mitsubishi could improve the seating and pedal position, give it an airbag and improve fuel economy and this thing wou...Read more
ld be unbeatable. it will easily last the 5 years i need it to, doing a LOT of kms. i plan on fitting an aftermarket seat and steering wheel to improve comfort. price is very good, aircon is very powerful, CD player, excellent maneuverability and short enough to get into underground carparks, plenty of torque to carry a full load, will take on a v6 commodore in a straightline. very cheap to maintain and in parts etc. Diamond Warranty. free Roadside assistance, Quite nice to drive and quiet with a full load on.lots of little compartments to store thingsdunlop tyres Noisy with an empty cargo area, the rear axle tramps alot over kerbs and driveways and such. needs aircon, power steer, cargo barrier and slide door window fitted, very uncomfortable seating position if you're not short. the seat cushion is not long enough, does not adjust enough and does not support your thigh considering the pedals are too far off the ground and too close to the seat making you have to lift your leg and twist your ankle to operate the pedals.. the seats offer no lateral support either. (2008 model)brakes are marginal. Gearchange clunky, have to be careful putting into reverse otherwise you get a very loud crunch. It improves after 5000kms or so.NO AIRBAG giving it the lowest safety rating that they can give.Poor fuel economy, 300-400kms to a tank and needs factory LPGno tachocant get up steep driveways in reverse, tramps on driveways and kerbs and spins easily while turning.no choice of colours (white is the only way to go anyway.)Similar opinion? Peter F.asked
i have a mitsi 95 van should it have 2 belts 1 in front one behind for the fan?
1 answer
not sure, do you have power steering, and air con, normally a second belt serves Air con, one belt should go around fan, water pump, alternator, and or power steering if fitted,

Reco's are about $2k. A bit more if they insist on changing radiator or no warranty. If you go this road, get your own high capacity radiator ($115 on ebay/44mm thickness incl delivery) as engine reco guys charge ~$200 and give you only a standard radiator which struggle with aircon after the first 12 months.
Don't let anyone talk you into a heavy duty clutch either (if manual). Breaks brackets and tendons! If assembled with quality components, like King Bros, you get similar engine life to Nissan/Toyota out of the same block.
Reco motors are better value than low mileage imports. Rings and lifters are superior quality compared to OEM Mitsi engines which are made in the same factory as Hyundai engines so the recos last a lot longer before blowing smoke (oil rings) and making tappet noise (lash adjusters).
Just had a quick look on ebay for a 2nd hand 4G63 engine.
One in good shape that has not been left out in the weather to fill up with rainwater is ~$1,200 incl delivery. Probably cost another $500 to fit.
I'm getting a 4G64 (2.4L) rebuilt in a couple of weeks. Because they are cast iron blocks this is a safe bet. Probably won't even need a rebore. I'm keeping my radiator/clutch/leads because I have replaced all within the last 12 months and I like the way it's running with a big radiator and featherweight clutch so this brings down the cost a bit. Normally a reco is ~$2,200 fitted but because I'm keeping radiator etc I won't be up for a clutch kit so for about the same cost as buying a 2nd hand engine from wrecker and getting it fitted I'll have something with new timing belt, water pump, balance shaft bearings, oil seals (those seals in the timing belt cover can leak after a while) and new pistons, rings, bearings & valve adjusters and they will all be quality aftermarket stuff.
You might want to consider whether it's worth the risk to buy 2nd hand. 4G63 & 4G64. Reco kits are pretty much same price. For the same amount of time in the shop (1 wk) you can come out with a reco motor that's better than the original for the same cost and time of fitting an unknown 2nd hand motor.

Hey I been looking for the cigarette lighter fuse for weeks now doing my head in I found the one on the drivers side but no accessories fuse there so the radio and cigarette lighter not working 2005 Mitzi express van?
2 answers
Not sure.
My lighter never worked from day 1. Ended up replacing/rewiring the whole thing. Try Alan. He has more electronic gadgets on his L3 than the Jaycar Winnebago!
Primary fusebox near accelerator pedal (the one you found). Circuits share common fuses such as horn & indicators. Radio and lighter on same circuit? Probably. If you had a separate fuse for every lamp and accessory or electronic device you would end up with about 3 fuse boxes, each one with about 40 fuses, like you would find in a Ford Territory or similar.
Legend thanks mate I’ll give Allan a buzz
