Excellent car for the money.
Went looking for a Mazda 3 and ending up buying a 2011 Lancer SX. 9 Months in I'm very please with the Lancer. I Recommend it.
I checked out a lot of cars before purchasing the Lancer. The Mazda 3 was at the top of my list based on it's sporty handling, but I did have some reservation following my previous experience with a Mazda 323's reliability and cost of ownership. So I kept an open mind and the Mitsubishi's value, warranty and capped price servicing was the deciding factor.
This car can really move, initial response from the CVT aut...Read more
o can be a bit underwhelming, but hold onto pedal position and the Lancer will build speed at a alarming pace for a 4 cylinder. Yes it feels like a rubber band, but rubber bands make good sling shots and this is what this car is. The fuel efficiency is excellent. With only 7000km on the clock, I'm now regularly getting sub 7ltrs per 100km economy for my 10km commute to work (That's worked out from the tank, not the computer). Out on the highway 6.5ltr and short trips in heavy city traffic around 9.8ltrs per 100km. Interior noise is competitive with most other small cars and on almost all roads the interior is road noise free, I think the Toyota is a bit quieter. On a couple of roads the Yokohama's can become intrusive.

2010 Ralliart : Fast, fun, and reliable...
Very happy with mine. Coming up to 6 years old (2010 model). First of all, it's not a WRX - same concept but very different car. It's more in its element either on the highway or backroads. Not the best for peak hour traffic as the SST transmission is not suited to stop/start driving - you do, however, have the ability to shift gears manually which makes things somewhat more pleasant. This thing just wants to go - not stop. Be wary though, servicing intervals are more frequent on the Ralliarts (6 months - 7,500km).

abs brakes
my wife has a 2008 lancer with only 97000k on the clock when the abs warning light came on. I took it straight to a brake expert who tested the abs pump which needed replacing. cost $ 2,400 + 2hrs labour with only one year guarantee. He also said its a common problem mostly after the warranty on the car has run out.

Best quality low cost medium car.
Having owned a Lancer for many years now, it again came out on top when shopping for various makes and models. The cost to quality combination can't be beat. For essentially 20k, you're getting a decent quality Japanese manufactured vehicle that the Korean competitors can only dream of.
Quality is there through and through, without being overly fussy with the appointments at the base model. Even the Sport model is going extremely cheaply, adding much needed skirts, grilles, and alloys, for base model pricing.
The CVT really does make this...Read more
car extremely smooth and a pleasure to drive. Some don't like it, as there is no upshifting as such - but it's actually a much more efficient and smoother experience. It makes the notion of discrete gears seem archaic once you've used it. I'm not a fan of the engine braking deceleration, where it makes a distinctly felt disengagement when pulling up to a stop. But with practice, you can brake in such a manner where this isn't noticeable. I'm also not a fan of the the way the dealer did business, nor have I touched their service centre. But I think this goes for all manufacturers. The dealership is just a place you want to avoid as much as possible. Great buy. Solid vehicle. None of this junky plastic stuff that the Korean makes are pushing at the same pricing.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
value
Bought new in September 2014. I have now owned for 1 year. I wanted an automatic for my partner to drive. Some reviewers seem to hate CVT, but in my opinion this works brilliantly. It is particularly impressive with the cruise control, adjusting the gears a little on long hills on the free-way. The interior is very spacious, and the visibility is better than many similar sized cars. Many criticise the interior finish, but I quite like it. The base model comes with all the options I want except perhaps parking sensors or reversing camera. For m...Read more
y personal conditions (mostly country driving) I average about 7.2 l/100. On a long run I get about 7. It is probably a bit too thirsty for running around town. Indeed there is a fair bit of road noise, depending a lot on the road surface. I also have a few small rattles (but then I drive on country roads, some gravel). These might worry me more if I had paid 30k rather than 20k! A Corolla would have cost 4.5k more, and cost more to service. Ill have to wait a few years more to judge the value properly, but at the moment it appears excellent value for money.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Love this car
Purchasing my red CJ lancer new in 2014, the standard 2L ES sport, has far exceeded my expectations for what was a $20,000 car could be (free auto upgrade when I got it, just improved the value). having owned the car for a little over a year now it has proven extremely worth while, and done everything needed of it with relative ease. the 2L engine has enough power to get up to speed, and matched with the CVT transition effortlessly handles highway driving. On my personal combined cycle (will admit that I am a slow driver) hovers between 6 and 6...Read more
.5L/100Km, which in my opinion is very good. servicing once a year is very affordable. the best thing is the 5 year warranty, and the option of an extended 5 year when buying the car new. would heavily recommendSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great Car
Bought this car in 2010 and found it great to drive, reliable and cheap to run. Only thing is make sure you get good tyres as road noise is an issue with the wrong types. We need to sell as my wife needs an auto but will buy another Lancer.

Well made
Purchsed this CJ Lancer SX febuary 2011, it is economical and extreamly reliable, Ebayed a full size spare wheel, purchased a Mitsubishi Kit full size spare boot storage levelling the boot floor to line up with the rear seats. backs when layed down this makes a camp bed .I personally use this with a 50mm camp mattres.
The head lights I have upgraded with optional Mitsubishi heavy yellow earth return cable kit, extended to the head light connector blocks that power better performing head light bulbs.

It's so true that Lancer owners love their cars
I bought my Lancer 2011 SX sportsback on a whim. I was looking at everything else but a Lancer but couldn't get the prices down to what I wanted to pay. My Lancer sat in the yard, brand new, under 20k and a gorgeous blue. Bought it without much thought.
Now 75k and more than 4 years later I'm very happy.
It's a boys car... I joined the fan sites and started improving little bits here and there. I took out the standard speakers (as I always do with new cars) and replaced them with JBL and damped the door panels with dynamat. I removed the sta...Read more

Love That Car
What is there to think about, bought a manual sportback, its big, zippy, gr8 daily driver, fixed cost servicing at $260 per year, made in Japan (could be radioactive), 10 year drive train warranty, boot lifts up for big space, under 20k to buy, MAZDA and TOYOTA would be 5-10k more, I love it. Its quite, zippy, boring inside but has the hands free thingy for phones, leve to chat.

update, still love the car but it is a little thirsty. around town, stop start, 10.5 to 11.5 litres/100 on a good day and the fixed price service at $260 does not include a tyre rotation (extra $40) but I still love the car!!
update 25,000kms not missed a beat, but have a rattle/niggle in engine bay, will go to get it checked next week

2015 Lancer XLS
I bought the 2015 Lancer XLS in auto CVT. I did a bit of research and it had negative reviews on the age of the current generation, but the exterior look of the car is one of the main reasons I chose it, it still is the best looking car in this class in my opinion, followed by Holden Cruze. Interior isn't as bad as made out to be, the dash is soft touch plastic and while its not as stylish as Mazda 3, it's better looking than Corolla and Cruze. For me, I decided on the Lancer because I was worried about the Cruzes reliability, (I'm probably goi...Read more
ng to keep this car for as long as it lasts me), and because it looks more sporty than the Mazda 3 (vein reason I know). It's only been a week but so far the car is great, and I haven't noticed any over the top tyre noise, although maybe that's because of the awesome stereo system lol... As long as you don't care about spending a few extra dollars on fuel each week compared to Corolla, Jetta, Mazda 3, I'd recommend the Lancer for anyone.Similar opinion? Just love my Mitsubishi Lancer GSR
Traded my 2005 Verada (see separate review) in May last year and got one of the first new GSR's.
I am extremely happy with it. Sure it's not a Ralliart, but I go out with my sports car group and it handles beautifully with sports suspension and more than adequate power. I just love the steering wheel located paddle shifts for very quick changes and being an automatic my wife can drive it also. Inside the cabin it is as big as my previous Verada.
Being a hatch it has plenty of load space. My petrol usage is between about 7.5 and 11 litres per ...Read more

Ok car to drive quite sporty
Im no perfect car reviewer I will give you things that came to my attention
Rented one of these whilst in Perth WA, for 4 days took it everywhere and I feel I can review this Car very well.
Up front its the 2014 Lancer ES Sportsback Auto, I picked it up from Perth City. My First impressions was that from the outside the car looks sporty and nice. looking in the inside the car look ok but looked like it hasn't changed in many years since I last rented a Lancer sedan 4 years ago. The Speedometer instrument area is still the same with the same ...Read more

Economical
I picked up our brand new 2015 Lancer GSR CVT yesterday. Drove it home my usual commute of 30km, 50-100km zones, stop start traffic and a few lights. Wow! Average 6.4L/100km, better than I get from my manual MX5.

ld definitely take a Lancer for a drive as well. Do consider the resale value will be lower than a Corolla, so either hold on to it for 5 + years, or get it for $000's cheaper to start with. Normal driving on any road is as quiet and smooth as my 2009 Highlander, unless pushed hard then you hear the engine noise and CVT a bit raspy. Perhaps they have fixed the noise issue others have complained about. Its got good pull up hills. Only downside so far is on a rough road the rear or the car jumps a bit over rough patches, the front handles it well.I also found the front headrests pushed your head slightly too far forward, so have turned the headrests around facing backward, and now the seats are very comfortable

Reliable car
I have had my CJ ES Lancer for six years now, has not missed a beat. I think it is right up there with Toyotas for reliability. There is not one oil leak under the vehicle, still the same battery... Batteries are not supposed to last six years. Ok, inside is a bit bland but I can live with that for the price. Have almost 95000kms on the clock. Intend to keep it for some time yet.

The Road Noise from the Tyres is Bad
As you said the biggest negative for this car is "Road Noise" the tyres supplied with the vehicle new, is Yokohama. They make so much noise that it is impossible to listen to the Radio, unless you are on a very smooth well made road. I asked the dealer, if there was a problem, and he said it was just the brand of tyres. Has anyone else chosen quieter tyres, as I am due for new tyres, and I would like opinions from other users.

Fantastic car. Japanese reliability with western style.
This is a fantastic vehicle. I've owned a 2011 VRX for 4 years now. So smooth, reliable, efficient, and safe. Handling is fantastic. For it's price it's astounding. The only drawback is the interior is quite plasticky, but I'd happily trade that for Japanese reliability and particularly high ANCAP rating (5 star yes, but check the detailed report! Higher score than most in it's class).
Highly recommended.

Exceptional car in all areas. driving handling, power, economy, looks. comfort, space.
We bought 2010 Lancer Activ hatch CVT new and are very pleased with everything about this great car. These Lancers are exceptional and too much emphasis on frills etc by car testers. In my opinion the Lancer is up there with the supposedly ultra reliable Toyota Corolla. There are a lot of Lancers with many trouble free high milage running about providing excellent service. We are planning to help our daughter to buy a new Lancer.

2008 Lancer clear coat peeling off all over car
I bought a Lancer in Feb 2008 to replace my 1998 model Lancer. I looked at the features and style of Mazda 3, Ford Focus and Holden Astra, and the Lancer won hands down. It has more safety features as standard, larger tyres and cruise control, which was lacking in the other cars.
January 2015 edit: Over the past nine months, the clear coat has been peeling off my garaged, clean and low km Lancer which I purchased brand new in 2008. It is Lightning Blue in colour, and I have seen numerous other Lancers in the same colour with the same problem...Read more
. I have been contacting Mitsubishi since March and am still waiting for something to be done about it as apparently it is acceptable to them. I was always a Mitsubishi fan, and will now never again buy another Mitsubishi. The worse part is that I can't even sell the car in it's current state because it would be worth nothing. Poor product and very poor customer service. The Lancer is comfortable to drive, has good visibility and comes in a range of colours. I found it very hard to decide which colour to get! It has the same fuel economy as my old 1.5L Lancer, but with a lot more interior space. It is quite big for a 'small' car, however is very easy to park, etc as it has good power steering that is not too touchy. First service is free which is also a bonus, as well as the 5 yr warranty and road-side assistance. The seatbelt warning can be annoying! I assume they make it that way so you'll always wear your seatbelt!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
