Excellent car, very happy customers
We bought a Mitsubishi triton in August 2016 and have been so happy with it! It's a fantastic car, has plenty of power, handles beautifully with a very tight turning circle (amazing for such a large utility), is very quite despite being a diesel and is brilliantly easy to drive!
I love the dashboard, the car is surprisingly roomy and I love that it has great legroom even with two children's seats in the back. I'm not keen on the radio as the Bluetooth and usb connections cut out frequently, but Mitsubishi are endeavoring to fix that for us at the moment.
The triton is an amazingly reliable car and over the last 11 months has not missed a beat/disappointed us. The running costs are incredibly low and we regularly get 7.5L/100km!

Great value for money in a 4x4 Utility!
Having had my previous car (another Mitsubishi) written off, I was forced to go shopping in a hurry to find a new car. Was pleasantly surprised to find the Triton at the lower end of pricing for 4x4 Utilities.
Managed to swing a great deal for the GLS model (which is a much better look than the standard GLX in my opinion).
Car has been great - only a few small issues with squeaking suspension but any good mechanic can assist with this.
So quiet on the freeway when travelling at speed, a real pleasure to drive. Enough power even with a fully loaded tray to pull through.

great ute on and off road
I have driven a few different types of utes through my line of work and nothing seems to compare to the triton GLS, they get great fuel economy on road no matter the weight, or what is on the roof I average 9.5 litres per 100klms they are great off road very hard to bog down, loves the sandy terrain I haven't done a lot of rocky terrain but I think it would preform like any other 4WD, only down side is they lack in clearance as the front bash plate cops a hammering I had to replace mine with a heavy duty one.

m 1st gear can difficult until the clutch wears in abit, and 2nd gear after being changed up from 1st can lag before picking up power to go, I haven't towed anything heavy as yet but I think this could have an affect. overall they are a great ute and I will consider purchasing another when the time comes to replace.

Great 4wd
Great Value 4wd on reasonable price (Under A$40,000) good value for money on a standard ute.
This Utes itself very much like a sport utes not only can use for track work also can deal with family duties as well.
Because of it is a Utes but still enjoy driving around city road (Fule Effectively and size of Triton not too big make it easy to handle).
I got a turbo diesel make a bit loud noise (I think it's normal for a diesel car).

Suprised!...Mitsubishi
Bought a dual cab GLS auto after testing all other brands. Real value for money proposition. 8000km and not missed a beat. Run in 4wd all the time ( centre diff) really ads traction in the wet on bitumen. Son fits in the back (6' 2"") more room than his Mazda 3. Really needs the camera out the back. Tray is obviously high to access. I drive Toyota Hilux's at work. No comparison...rather be in the Triton. Engine punchy for a 2.4. 5 speed auto is ok. Getting 8.9l/100kms at 105 to 110 on long runs. Has a diesel particulate filter so be aware of th...Read more
e need to do a run for 30 minutes or so at above 90 kms/hour to regenerate it. Speedo optimistic. Using radar 60 is 56, 110 is actually 105. Look at the Exceed. The GLS I think is the sweet spot. I think a Garmin is a better gps that the built in one. I bought it as an " all roads vehicle" and live 600 km from the city with access to a lot of gravel roads.Need a ute because I have two girls who don't pack light!... Update... It,s been over a year and 15000 kms later. The Triton has not missed a beat. I tow a small trailer (750 kg) and hardly know it,s there. Fuel consumption does go up to 13.5 l / 100 kms fully loaded with the loaded ( 4 passengers, tray full and full trailer and roof rack @ 100 Kph ). Has handled rough gravel roads well apart from driving light on the Smartbar loosening, even with nyloc nut. Sometimes the empty passenger front seat vibrates, just slightly Seems to be a “common” problem, and varies in different cars, although I find the seat position on the slide rails has an affect..seems like a harmonic problem. I have fitted gas struts to the bonnet so it’s easier to lift. And have springs and damper on the tailgate. Being shortish, I have to carry a small plastic 3 step ladder to make it easier to access the tray because it is a high vehicle. Short people may also find it a pain to “climb” in to the cab. I am still convinced that for MY needs I made the right choice and used the money I saved not getting a Ranger to buy the accessories. Update after 2 years on and just had 2nd annual service done. Changing brake fluid and brake adjustment ( recommended) was extra and not included in fixed price service charge. Just clocked 30000kms after 2700 km road trip including off road 4wd conditions. So far nothing has gone wrong with the car. Rough roads shook the driving lights loose, and the roof rack fitted to the built in roof mounts came loose ( even though locktite used on all fittings). One gripe has surfaced... the lack of adjustable lumbar support in the seats...they become uncomfortable after a while. However the Mother-In-Law approves of the comfort of the rear seat even though access/ egress at 85 years old is a little difficult. At 30000k just discovered no air cabin filter was fitted, even though the system has a place behind the glove box for one. I wonder if this I this typical. Update... 3 years, 40000k and new Bridgestone AT 697 tyres added and still hasn't missed a beat.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Ive run 17500 ks in my mq, i can comfortably say after driving around in the 2015 holden colorado for 5 months, the 2013 hilux sr5, the navara np300, and the ford ranger 2012 for about a month, that the triton is by far the pick of the lot for me hence why i bought it. for a vehicle at this price range the performance has been excellent both on and off road, it is a comfy ride, handling and turning circle are great, the turbo lag compared to the ranger and the hilux is much much less, and in terms of fuel economy i am getting a comfortable 750k...Read more
's a tank if i am doing highway driving and about 450-500 when driving urban. Traction control is excellent. I take it off road almost every weekend and im not talking about the easy trails and it continues to perform. As for the complaints ive read on this car i can not complain because at the end of the day im getting everything i need for under 40k and reading and hearing much worse problems coming from the more expensive competitors (i have a few friends who own all the new competitors so we can compare and discuss the cars) i can confidently say the performance of the triton and reliability seems to hold up much better than the competition. Although there are minor things like a small vibration when taking off, the steering wheel leather seems to wear down abit quicker than id like it to and a minor leaf suspension squeak easily fixed with some inox lubricant spray. There is nothing worth kicking up a stink about its a ute at the end of the day its going to get used and beaten around its not a luxury car so for me what i get for the price it serves its purpose very well.Similar opinion? Its pretty good for what you pay.
Bought my ute almost 1 year ago. Not much wrong however its been a learning experience. I got the dealer to put on a parkside towbar. After delivery I had the windows tinted (front row to t35 and read to t20 I think), and had an extreme coat put in the tub. I have found for best fuel economy driving it at what ever speed the sweet spot is around 1500 rpm. e.g. at 60 in 4th. 70 or 80 in 5th and above in 6th. Driving at 90kmh will be the best you get. Above that and the mileage gets worse the faster you go. 100kmh is acceptable. 110 isn't. All th...Read more
ese speeds are taken off a GPS. At 110 the speedo needle is almost on 120. (Vehicle not loaded). I've been using BP Ultimate diesel. There is a slight difference between that an normal diesel in that the average litres per 100km readout will drop faster on Ultimate or premium diesel. There might also be other things but I am not 100% sure. The vehicle could have done with an instant fuel consumption display on the instrument cluster as well as the average like the BT50, Ranger and NP300 Navara. This would help people discover better mileage in real time. To start the manual you need to push the clutch in all the way. This is a safety thing but you really have to push it in until it can't go any further otherwise the engine won't turn over. I didn't go for the free auto as I don't like automatics. The turbo lag people seem to talk about depends on how you drive it. If you are in the wrong gear and engine speed is too low the turbo can't spool, its that simple. Change down and press the accelerator while doing so before releasing the clutch. If you select the correct gear placing the engine revs at around 1500 to 2000 the thing will accelerate sharply before you need to change up. Same too off the line but you just need to learn how to launch it. Rev the engine and keep the clutch at the friction point a fraction longer till you are moving and the thing will zip however change gears before your rpm gets too high or the acceleration will slow rapidly. Its not particularly good for the clutch so you only do it to get across an intersection or something in an emergency and not every gear change. In first gear once on boost the thing will reach the end of the torque range fast. I have not experienced gears poping out under load. I've had the tub loaded with lime stone blocks and bags of sand and mortar. With a large load in the back acceleration is reduced however that is to be expected. The radio on the gls can be a little buggy if you use a usb stick to play mp3s. It can be hard to navigate the menus. The blutooth sometimes also has issues however this may be an Android related problem. If the USB stick has a lot of songs it takes a little while for the system to start playing music on startup. Other than that the other features work fine. Digital radio is good. Reversing camera is magic especially in dark places like under building garages or at night. One problem is the angle the touch screen is on can make it hard to read if you're driving it at various times of the day depending on where the sun is. The headlights on the GLS were something I needed to get used to. They are very precise and look low because the light does not spread up much being Xenon but it does have a very cool function where I can lower the height on the lights for when I have a load on the back so I don't blind other motorists at night. The front passenger seat belt will rattle if its in the wrong position. This is because the buckel will get caught between the seat and the trim on the B pillar. You either need to correct this or buckle it into the clasp. My friend has a top of the range D-Max that has the exact same problem. The 4X4 selector can take a while to go into 4X4 mode and again to come out of it. I've only actually needed it once because I don't really go off road in it. It took nearly 5 minutes for the lights to stop flashing.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good budget vehicle Diesel dual cab
Great use on the road with good economy and lots of leg room, we have travelled from Darwin to Adelaide via the east coast and done over 40ks in 12 months, we like the good fuel economy, very comfortable seats, good reliability, the off road side of things is disappointing, the vehicle compression locks if insufficient revs are applied, it is lack low end power and needs to be reved to get going which in sand and mud is disastrous, this is a highway and round town vehicle, the four wheel drive i would not recommend, I keep my cars for a few ye...Read more

Unreliable, fault filled and poorly engineered
Unfortunately there's not too much positive I can say. My history from the moment I drove it away from the dealer has at best been terrible.
From day one this cheap example of a dual cab 4x4 has suffered terrible turbo lag to the point I feel it's dangerous and I'm a diesel mechanic by trade, ex Mack. It's consistently jumped out of 3rd gear accompanied by a chassis shattering bang as the driveline unloads. It took 8 months for Mitsubishi to come up with a solution which worked however 1st, 2nd and 3rd have the notchy, click or grind other o...Read more
wners report. The dealer had several attempts at fixing 3rd and of course was preceded by initially failing to acknowledge the issue and then time wasting bandaid attempts at remediation. I like many owners of this poorly engineered and built vehicle have had a raft of issues, many of which remain today because for the most part they're unpredictable and intermittent and the dealer workshop usually has no chance of finding them in the short time they have during assessment for warranty. The following is a rundown of the issues I've encountered. As above jumping out of 3rd gear, the instrument cluster shutting down during normal driving, super-select failing to select 4H or other modes requiring restart, large gaps around lumbar airbags in front seats, crunching noises from clutch pedal (finally diagnosed after 4 months being split pivot bushes), menu button or radio non responsive, stitching coming apart on seats, dead accelerator pedal response, EGR system filled the manifold with soot after 45,000ks, engine cut outs with all systems turning off and back on instantly with error code U1073 showing up, undiagnosed P0401 power train error code found at every service, security system issues inhibiting engine start requiring re-lock and unlocking, unreliable Bluetooth connection (sounds like your talking under water) and lastly the common single suspension squeak many have reported. Then there's the numerous factory recalls for towbar & nudge bolts and factory tonneau fasteners. Like many others, I also have concerns over steering and suspension setup. Hit a few ruts on any section of road and it's like riding a bull throwing you left, right and usually over half a lane. In closing I don't feel it's safe and certainly not a reliable vehicle. Repairs have been expensive. Example $382 for one of the small 4 inch fog lamp assemblies and 30k service at $880. Lastly I'm amazed at some of the complete nonsense stories I've been told from dealer service techs when I've reported issues. I usually let them finish before I tell them I'm a trade qualified Diesel Mechanic and what they've just advised is complete garbage.2 comments
I now have the passenger seat rattle and clutch pedal click back. And at 123ks it's finally thrown a conrod out the side of the block. Back to Mitsubishi on a tow truck. I'm initiating lemon law replacement of this vehicle.

Excellent car with minimal Mitusbishi niggles when new
I'm an avid fan of utes. My dad owns a Triton and uses it as primary mode of transport (since 1990), so I had no second thoughts on getting a new one. Looking at the negative reviews I was quite concerned. While I notice some of the same issues they are not major and I have managed to tinker with some problems. The seat rattle was fixed by simply transferring across my sheepskin seat covers from my previous car to the Triton; problem solved. Had a slight vibration issue at pick up; lowered the pressures to what's stated in the placard, no issue...Read more
s since. One thing that worries me is the DPF getting clogged. So I'm running Liqui Moly Diesel clean and boost in it to burn the diesel cleaner. I live in the country and don't have access to diesel fuels with additives, hence my own addition. I don't notice a difference but I hope the dreaded light doesn't come on soon. The fuel economy on highway/freeway is poor 8.9L/100km. Get similar values in town, the trick being to try and keep the engine off turbo boost in traffic. It's early days, maybe the engine will perform better after being run in. It's great off road. Only used the car on a dry fire trail. The low range is properly geared and the engine breaking in low first is great (In manual mode). Low range driving is better performed in manual mode in hilly terrain. The factory tires are strictly an on road option, slightly ok on gravel if driven very carefully (sidestepping stones and low speed etc.). The interior is to my liking. The seats are definitely missing something. I get a neck pain every time I drive (lack of lumbar support, maybe). Although attractive from the outside, looking closer at the chassis brings some surprises. Thai welding is no match for the welding performed by their Japanese counterparts when these were made in Japan (like my dad's ute). The paint on the chassis is also messy with brush marks visible in places where they have painted over after welding the exhaust brackets. Overall I'm happy with my purchase. Will update as I rack up the kilometers. 25/04/2017 - Update. Bought a second set of OEM wheels fitted with Pirelli Scorpion ATR tyres (265/65/R17), 35psi that fixed the speedometer error to within 1km/h. Fuel economy suffered as a result, taking a hit of around an extra 1-1.5L/100km. Travelling over corrugations is really bad as the spring rates do not seem to cope with it. Lowering tyre pressures only improve the ride slightly. Importantly, the spare wheel fitted at the factory is stuck and will not unwind. Will call dealer to schedule a rectification. Lucky I've got the extra spare wheel I bought separately. Off road performance is commendable, no issues. The new AT tyres and good articulation help with very impressive dry weather traction, so much that sometimes I forget to lock the centre diff and drive with the open diff in 4H off road without any problem. 08/05/2017Similar opinion? Bad vibration
After trying to take it easy and run in I noticed after 2 days a vibration at take off so the harder I pressed the accelerator the more it shudders. I can't believe Mitsubishi have been selling these as they know there is a problem has been since 2015 and don't know how to fix it yet. I think rear end is too high for two piece tail shaft putting too much Angle on center bearing they should replace it with A one piece shaft. They should of stopped production Until they sorted this out.

Dangerous turbo lag
On occasions engine hesitates so badly that it is like turning off the ignition for several seconds.
Doesn't sound like much but in front of oncoming traffic it is extremely dangerous.
Mitsubishi dealer says this is normal Turbo lag.
I cannot accept that dangerous is normal in a modern vehicle.

her seal of approval. Super select 4 wheel drive...and a plus real wheel drive as opposed to other soft roaders...Cabin is very comfortable and has kids seal of approval for leg room...had a look at all of the other Utes the triton had the most leg room. The gls models comes with digital head unit (time to throw out the cd's) dual zone air con, rear reversing camera ....like the outlander the instrument panel is a little basic with no outside temp gauge so you know how hot outside is (mitsubshi please take note). Ohhhhhh cup holders the size of maccas large cappuccino and a nice snugg fit to....two USB ports would be better if one was in the centre compartment...17 inch wheels should be bigger Wifeys soft roader with the 18inch makes it look a little inadequate (wiggling little finger). Lots of immediate power which scares some RAV4 and i40'drivers with a smooth cabin ride and quiet persona....Whilst the tub is not as big as the Amarok neither is the servicing costs which is $200 cheaper on the triton and anyone whom think it is great to put your passenger cup holder in the foot well is just needs to visit the man in the white coat for a consultation. Overall the family is impressed with the build quality, cabin room and performance of the vehicle the dogs are happy with the tub and the neighbours think that it is completely unnessary...no bumps rattle or roll..so far very impressed would not give it a 5 close but it's far better than the crappy Cruze.2 comments
