Rowena,

There are a number of good routers in OZ it depends on how much you are willing to pay. For example you could pay $600 for the top of the range or you could pay $150 for a reasonable router. However there is no router that will actually speed up your streaming and downloading, that is all dependent on your service provider, the area you live in, the kind of service you have. I know people who have the NBN up and running and their speeds are slower than ADSLII for example with my Netgear(ADSLII) D6300 I am averaging 14MB/Sec download and 700kb - 900kb up depending on the time of day. The guy up the road is on NBN with one of the big service providers and he is averaging 8MB down and 2MB up and that is late at night when most others users are in bed. What you can do is a little bit of tweaking with your router which may give you a slight edge in speed. In your router setting uncheck the QOS box. When streaming get rid of all the non essentials running in the back ground, shutdown any non essential programmes, the more you can get rid of the bigger your bandwidth. The other problem you may have is other users doing the same as you or business in the same area doing web backups they all kill the bandwidth. (Just ask Telstra) hope this helps if only a little bit.

Netgear constantly sends out revised firmware updates that seem to resolve problems from time to time. I have 3 PCs, two laptops and numerous, mobile phone devices and have experienced dropouts and items dropping off the network. I have had to reboot the router to resolve the problem and think that the Netgear Router has some continual problems in this space. Using the DHCP feature also results in some iitems experiencing IP clashes which has resulted in rebooting the device to resolve this problem. I suggest emailing Netgear with the issues maybe with enough of us complaining they will do something to improve the product performance.

I have a printer, two androids, two laptops, a PS4 and a NAS drive all working perfectly without any dropouts. Setup is critical on this device. I've reserved IP addresses for all my devices, put the router in a central location, and it works sweet! I use 5G for the laptops and PS3, and 2.4G for everything else.

Can't answer your question directly. I have not connected any TV directly via ethernet or wireless. I have 1 TV connected by ethernet from Netgear D6300 via a Telstra TBox and to another TV via ethernet & a Sony Play Station in other. Currently also running concurrently 3 smart phones, 3 tablets, 2 Kindles, 1 Printer, & one laptop wirelessly via the D6300. No issues caused by my arrangement. I have had significant problems with drop out which required frequently rebooting the D6300. I installed line monitoring test gear and a data logger. The problem was Telstra landline substandard ADSL service. The ADSL service frequently dropped below spec and caused 6300 to drop out. Telstra finally fixed the problem which was not my installation. Have not had a single drop out since.

There is a Netgear 24/7 Technical Support line 1300 361 245 & is free for 90 days from purchase. They are very helpful and helped me track my problem to the Telstra connection.
