Photos are almost always blurry
I bought this camera duty free on the way to Bali year before last and I really struggle to get ultra clear shots - they look fine on the viewing screen on the camera but once you transfer to photoshop or Lightroom the clarity just isn't there - I did ask my mum and my best friend to look at it as they are both professional photographers and they seemed to have similar trouble - the camera seems to function fine its just I seem to have got a dud! Really disappointed with it as I have three young kids and I get better pics with my phone.
Purchased in September 2021 at airport for $699.00.

Great for travel
After looking at many reviews for a good travel camera we settled on the B700 basing the decision on performance, value for money, weight and size. Initially I liked the idea of the P900 or just released P1000 however the DSLR body size of both of these Nikon Super Zooms ruled them out. It appeared In the end most equivalent zoom cameras were all 1/2.3 sensors, similar zoom and features unless you decided on the more upmarket Sony.
The deal that was offered by Ryda and the 60x zoom was enough to convince me to go with the B700.

lity is good and though many reviews mention "soft" images so far ours have been fine, though we do tend to print 6"x 4" or view on a screen were not blowing them up to large prints. While this will never replace my DSLR's for portraits and finer shots our first venture into the world of Nikon has worked well it is lite, fits in my wife's handbag(she also loves the red colour) and the zoom is more than enough to stop your "feet being the zoom" while you are on holidays where quite often you are walking enough.

My new baby, the Nikon Coolpix B700
When I had to put a second piece of gaffer tape on my faithful old Olympus Camedia DSLR (busted memory card and battery covers) I decided it was time to treat myself to a new camera.
My choice of cameras was limited both by budget and my need to have an optical or electronic viewfinder. Call me old fashioned but I just can’t stand composing from an LCD screen.
I had about $500 saved and $600 was my absolute limit. So I was looking for a bridge camera, somewhere between a point and shoot and a full size DSLR. There were quite a few othe...Read more
r candidates in this range including the Canon SX60/SX540 and Panasonic FZ70. All the cameras had good features but for some the cons outweighed the pros, e.g. poor battery life, no RAW capability or fixed LCD screens. After considering all the options, the Nikon Coolpix B700 was clearly my camera of choice. It had all the features I needed and it was the right price – just $509 on special from the Good Guys. While it’s bigger than my old Olympus Camedia, it is still small enough to throw in a bag. It’s light and the rubberised grip makes it easy to hold. A small annoyance is the diopter adjustment control for the electronic viewfinder, which is fiddly to use while you are looking through the finder. But love the variable angle view screen that can be folded closed to protect the screen while not in use. Then there’s 4K video recording, 60x zoom, 20.2 MP sensor, built in wi-fi, Snapbridge for the transfer of images to my smartphone and RAW shooting capability.

Think twice before you buy.
I bought one few months before and used it without any problems. Next time when I picked it up couldn't turn it off and it wasn't in a condition to use. No display and error message coming up frequently. Had to remove battery to turn it off. When contacted Nikon care they offered nothing more than going to service centre. Not a good option at all. Have been using a Sony before and it never let me down.

I have damaged my B700 and cannot replace it as the model is discontinued. Is there a replacement (upgrade) from Nikon? The P900 is to big and doesn't have the features of the B700.

Can I use a Toshiba SDHC UHS-1 Card in a Nikon B700 Camera?

Hi Ron
We have only ever used Sandisk cards in all our cameras and at the moment it has an SDHC1 32gig and it works fine. As your card code just stands for ultra high speed it will still work, it may not run as fast as it would in a high end DSLR

Hi, thanks for your question - however this is the first Nikon I have owned so I have nothing for comparison. Suggest that you do some research on the two models, there should be plenty of online reviews of Nikon products, I know I found this very helpful in my search for the right camera. If it helps, I wanted a fairly basic, light weight digital SLR camera with good picture quality to take product shots of handcrafted goods I sell on eBay, and for pics to accompany articles I write for local newspapers and websites. The B700 fulfills all these tasks superbly, plus there is the added bonus of that incredible zoom. It really depends on what you want the camera for. Hope this helps.
This is my first Nikon and I’m not a professional. B700 is light weight and zooms great.
Please look for what you want. I wanted an average camera for all purposes and it’s okay. Had some software problems but was able to fix it myself. For close ups or clarity I suggest other models.
