I have had my hy chlor mark 2 for about two years. I did write a review shortly after I purchased it and it was very positive. I failed to acknowledge the great response from the help area of the distributor. I contacted them very early on to obtain an extra length as I have a 70,000 litre 10 meter pool and had it within a day or so. I have had no troubles with the pool cleaner until this week when it simply refused to operate. I rang the help line and was told to lubricate the tongue of the device. This had it back fully operational within a few minutes. I was told to lubricate it every three to four months. I think it is good value for the cost involved.

Great for the price
I didn't expect much from this for the price, but I've been impressed. It's now, after 18 months, starting to come loose and show signs of wear but for now is still going and honestly, I'm happy with 18 months at the price it is compared to any other model!
Our pool is peanut shaped and it cruises around cleaning out leaves and grime, it has been left in the pool continuously and has saved me so many hours of vacuuming, at this time of year our neighbour's tree dumps leaves in continuously and is impossible to keep up with manually. The rest...
Read more of the year it has a less demanding job but keeps everything spic and span. The only thing it ever gets stuck on is larger twigs after a storm but generally it has been a set and forget item. Love it. When it's just me in the pool I just leave it, it's not very big or intrusive. When the kids are all out there at once I have them lift it out onto the side so no one jumps on it and cracks it. Again it's not big or heavy so easy enough for the teen to lift out and toss back in after. I suspect ours is now on it's last legs but it has been such a labour-saving device that nearly 2 years for only around $150 leaves me happy to replace it when needed.- Date Purchased

Bang for your buck!
Does what it’s supposed to do. Plugged it in and it cleaned the pool non stop for 18 months, then it stopped working (air leak, loss of pressure in head unit). Good value for $99 (price I paid on sale). Purchased a new head unit (pool blade) for $99 and she’s good as gold again!
Note - my pool has little shade and cleaner was always in pool.

For $250 does the same job as the expensive brands at $800
This is my 3rd pool cleaner. The first two were expensive brands and worked, but parts wear out and they are overpriced to replace. Bought this and it does the job fine. Who cares if it were to totally break after a couple of years, as buying a new one is cheaper than all the spare parts for the expensive brands.

Couldn't be happier
Needed a new cleaner and a couple of years ago decided to give the $200 Poseidon MK2 a go. At different houses and pools I've previously used Kreepy Krauly, Barracuda and Great White cleaners; they all have their quirks and some are better than others if you have a lot of gum leaves to beat.
The Poseidon went well for 2 years. Our current pool doesn't get a lot of big leaves but plenty of smaller gunk and the cleaner didn't need a lot of attention to keep it going. Cleaned the pool as well as you'd expect; some missed spots but they all do...
Read more that. After two years it started to stop and start (more stop than start) so I replaced a couple of iffy hose sections and the elbow joins and checked for stuck debris etc., no luck. Emailed Poseidon support not expecting too much. Got a fairly straightforward "try this and this" reply. In the interim, found the fix others here have tried around inserting an "o" ring to stop the baffle from being sucked onto the flapper and that fixed the cleaner. Emailed Poseidon support to let them know that I'd got the cleaner going thinking they could suggest the fairly easy fix to others. They replied that irrespective of that they would be sending me a new "core" for the cleaner (this is the one piece long blue bit, including the baffle and the flapper mechanism) which duly arrived about three days later. Assembled it in abut 10 minutes, the pool is now clean and I should get at least another couple of years out of the cleaner. Sorry for the long blurb but the Poseidon gets some bad feedback here and I thought their support for a $200 item (I've paid 4 times as much for a cleaner that has driven me nuts) was excellent and deserved to be noted.- Date Purchased

Average cleaner but cost per year comparable to or better than more expensive cleaners
Had this cleaner for 2 years and its on its last legs. If you haven't had a pool or cleaner before you have to understand these things take a beating. They're on about 6-8hrs a day during swimming season - on the Sunshine Coast that's 6 months a year - grinding up and down sandpaper-like walls. The sun smashes them as well. I'd be suprised if any cleaner lasts beyond 3 yrs but could be wrong.
Everything Tony says below about the baffle happened to mine. A few fixes kept it going but now the wear and tear is at a point that I have to give the...
Read more cleaner a shake every time the pump comes on to get it moving. After that it's ok. There is a repair/parts kit available, but its the housing that's stuffed, so don't think that will help. Hoses cracked and split after a year, but that's pretty standard. You can find good priced hoses on eBay - about $40 for 8m. Also had to buy a better quality elbow connector that goes between the regulator and the first hose. That was about $20, but I just took the receipt in to Bunnings, explained that the stock one was crap and they gave me a voucher for the cost. Sticks longer than 10mm and palm fronds can stop it dead by getting caught in the baffle. But if you pull them out in 24-48 hrs your pool should be clean in one or two cycles - depends on how much stuff drops in it though. And the pumps still going the whole time so doesn't affect water quality too much. I took it in to the pool guy for a fix today and he said chuck it out. Asked him what his cheapest cleaner was - $500 with 2 year warranty. I took this to mean it would also fail after 2 years. I'm not that great at maths but since the Poseiden cost $200 from Bunnings and I'm familiar with it, I'll be better off with the budget option again. Now the kids are in the pool all the time over Summer, I'll just get them to give it a shake twice a day and buy a new one closer to winter. Edit: Just upgraded to 4 stars. Ended up lasting nearly 3 years all up. Went out and bought another and the price was still the same. Don't listen to the haters. Great value for money.- Date Purchased

Budget cleaner does the job
I was looking for a budget pool cleaner that only had to last until the pool is removed. Replacing the Kreepy Krauly would cost over $600 so decided to purchase this unit for $200.
I found the instructions easy to follow and within 30 minutes it was in the water.
You get what you pay for. The unit and hose have a cheap feel consistent with its low price but all it had to do is work. And work it does.
Some adjustment of the water control valve (just hooked up to the existing Kreepy valve on the skimmer plate) to increase pulse rate and it wa...

Great product for the price!!
I was reluctant to buy a cheap cleaner. ..but so glad I did! ! Easy to assemble. ..easy to adjust....works well in my pool which has very few leaves. Gets stuck in the corner sometimes, but usually sorts itself out...even if it only lasts 2 seasons. ..great for the price. ..and more effective than the creepy crawly which I kept having to buy replacement parts for.
Terrific low cost alternative
Just purchased this from Bunnings for $189 after my creepy crawly gave up on me. I have to say, and this review is only after an hour of use, it's terrific. No doubt louder than my previous cleaner, with audible noises from pipe joints, but this could be overcome with one length of tube as opposed to the connectable ones provided. Anyway, pool is amazingly clean compared to before, I'm surprised how well it actually cleans. A lot of the concerns around the product is it's ability to pick up leaves, I can't comment here but it's doing a far bett...

Much Improved From Previous Version.
I got one of these in 2011 and it was useful but too fragile. Purchased 'new improved' one in 2013 after 1st one broke for the last time. Most of the problems with the earlier one have been fixed. The throat has been redesigned and doesn't clog easily. The plastic parts are made from something much tougher and have no noticeable wear or damage after almost 2 years. The hoses are not fully uv stable (odd for something that spends its life in the sun) and after 2 years have become brittle and split when put under too much stress. With few new sections of pipe, I expect another couple of years out of this one base on the condition it's in now. For the price I doubt you'll find better.
Works well enough
Was concerned about negative reviews but soon realised that all pool cleaners have some negative reviews. This cleaner is good value for money. Have had for 6 months and it continues to clean well. Any problems have been due to human error or twigs caught up in the cleaner. Will climb walls when filter is clean and 3-speed pump is on 2nd highest speed. Not 100% random pattern as some paths are more well traveled (esp. around bottom edges). It is a large unit compared to others and does not always pick up leaves. Had to buy 2 extra tubes. Cost is well below that of other brands, which might work better so buy this if you want value for money or are willing to accept a cheap mistake if it doesn't work well for you.
Not as bad as we thought
After reading many negative reviews we were worried about purchasing this cleaner but decided to give it a go knowing we could take it back to bunnings if it didn't work out. Happy to say that we have found the Poseidon pool cleaner to be good value for money and not as bad as we read. We purchased a few extra pieces of hose and have had it running in our pool and we have been pleasantly surprised at its effectiveness and it's not as noisy as reviews made it out to be. We researched other pool cleaners and read their reviews and each one we res...

cheap and it works
doesnt do steps but nothing will
Great economical auto pool cleaner.
I bought this pool cleaner from Bunnings, got it for a good price and it worked fine from the word go, cleaned well, better value than a $600+ Barracuda i reckon, and way better than the old Kreepy Krawly that lay dormant in the bottom of the pool for way too long! You just need to get the hose length right and you're set!
Price, ease of installation.

Suprise
You know, I bought this "in hope", I never really expected it to work. I got it from Bunnings and I know they do refunds if you take item back etc. I've tried Quotro X7 and Kreepy Crawley and they never worked, why should this? Thru it in ( I found it worked best in my pool with just a coupleof weights on the hose, no ring and no floaty thing) bit of adjustment, and now we're into our 2nd year ! Suprised. Just be ready to replace the hose, that is rubbish.
cheap, works, part from Bunnings

Questions & Answers
I have newly tiled my pool. My Hy-Clor Mk2 worked adequately on the old marble sheen surface ( abit of the usual tracking) but does not consistently move forward on the new tiles even though it is pulsating healthily. Also it does not seem to be sitting consistnetly flat on the bottom of the pool. Any suggestions?
Is there a larger bump ring available to replace the 330 one supplied as standard? I have a small pool with square corners and the cleaner gets s=tuck in the corners. I suspect a bigger diameter bump ring may be the solution? Thanke Rich
Make sure your hose is the right length. Rule being that the house needs to be one meter longer than the pool. I have also had more success with continuous hose rather than the 1 meter sectional hose ...
Read moresystem supplied with the cleaner. For a small square pool with hard corners you could also try reducing the one additional meter .I have a Hy-clor Poseidon MK2 Automatic, I'm finding it won't go up the walls.
