Lost Rocket Redux
I surf a SCUD in 6'3" at 39L. 100kg surfer, strong intermediate who has been surfing for 5 years and surfs 5 days a week.
A quick glance at the Scud and you can see an original Lost Rocket lurking under that red and black paint job. The Rocket is a legendary board with a serious reputation for versatility and speed in basically all every day conditions. Have a look at the review on compare surfboards if you want to get an idea of what the Rocket's reputation is.

deas of one another – personally I think practically all of them do it. After the Hypto started winning awards it seemed like practically everyone was bringing out pin tailed boards with fishy noses. The SCUD is a very close cousin/sibling of the Rocket as far as I can tell – I think if anything the SCUD's general outline is just a touch more parallel and a little wider in the tail. Just like the original it has that deep single concave and that iconic winged round tail. I've never surfed a Rocket – that's why I jumped on this board – but from everything I have read about it the SCUD has inherited its more famous brother's good qualities. The deep single concave and generous foam under the chest make this board just easy to surf in crappy, Sydney summer one foot wind-slop. It paddles so easily that it has made crappy summer surfing fun again. I have a bunch of other short boards and this is my go to in small waves at the moment. I just cant get enough of it. The waves have been so crappy they have been really Mal-only for me, and the SCUD has been allowing me to light them up. The amazing thing about the SCUD, which again comes form the Rocket, is the way its tail allows for a responsive feeling under the back foot. This board actually turns. I don’t know if it’s the way the 'wings' are supposed to allow release points on the tail, or the fact that if you have a close look at it, there actually is a good amount of tail rocker, but this board is actually lively under the back foot, which is crazy for a board which goes so well in small, weak waves. I have surfed this in full tide head high wind-swell and the SCUD was just too much fun – unlike a proper grovler the SCUD was more than responsive enough under the back foot when you want to turn it. Ok, its definitely not a finely tuned squash or pin tail, and it takes a little more pressure to get on rail, but once you figure the feeling out the speed of this thing just puts a smile on your face. It makes surfing just easier and more fun. This board just loves snappy turns, and it can carve and perform higher speed bottom turns. But, again, this is what you would expect if you had an original Lost Rocket under your arm, a board that could go well in practically any of the waves most of us surf most of the time.Similar opinion?
