Thickness way off

published

My 8 foot blackbird thickness is listed as 3 inches.
Measured it and it is slightly more than 2 inches at rail. It is 3 inches at the very maximum cross section in the middle of the board. This board does not have the float that it should.
Volume of 61 liters must be way off.
Still like the board. I thought it would be more floaty.
Performs well but I am dissatisfied with the dimensions being somewhat misleading.

My favourite board

published

I bought this board 2 years ago (flouro pink) - the 9'1". I am an intermediate surfer, but had been out of the water for about 20 years. This has been the perfect board to get me back into surfing and help me transition back to a short board. It makes it easy to catch waves, it is a high performance board and turns almost like a short board, but it is also possible to nose ride it. It is fast and turns well. The finish has been good. I use it at least once a week and there are no more than the usual bumps and bruises for a board of this age. I would get it again.

Most Fun I have had on a surfboard yet

published

A young guy at Aloha Manly told me that this board would be good for me. I took his word for it and decided to give it ago. Wow I was blown away at just how right he was. The board floats me well, I seem to be paddling faster than I was on my Mal. Once I am up and riding I can go anywhere I like. Having lots of fun and feeling about 15 years younger. The board is well made and the Blue Tint colour I got is awesome.
Great value for money.

Modern blackbird 8ft of fun

published

Bought the 8 ft blackbird from the first release at the local l,ongboard shop and was surprised at the great glass job on the resin tint and re enforcement patches, Im 95 kgs and a back foot surfer and the glass job is holding up great. Its also a good all round compromise between traditional and modern mid length performance.
Great value and quality for the money

Also noticed that the top and bottom decals on the Modern Blackbird were quite crooked. I mean, this just shows how little regard for quality these Chinese factory workers have. Wonder if they have even seen a beach, much less gone for a surf???

sounds pretty bad mate, but the prob here is buying a non local board in the first place ... as a surfer there is no way i would buy a chinese or thai or any other off shore board ... lesson learned for you and others i hope, BUY LOCAL ..

I think your review is dodgie as the Modern Blackbird does not come in a 2 1/5 in any of the sizes and in my experience every modern I have seen has been a beautiful finish. I'm often more disappointed with the quality of local shaping hence I stopped spending astronomical prices on crap boards.

Phillip76. If you took the time to notice, my review was posted in 2013. Perhaps the dimensions, etc have changed, as it is now 2017? Mate, the only thing that is dodgie is your review. What are you, a sales rep from GSI? If you can't find a good local shaper to custom make a quality board, you sound like a kook.
