We have had a sleeping duck mattress for a year and a half now, rotating regularly. We are not heavy people but the mattress has rather large dips where we sleep now. It has become so uncomfortable that we have now purchased another mattress of a completely different type. It was a good test of a vacuum sealed bed, however probably only suited long term as a guest bed. Wouldn't purchase again.

Avoid at all costs if you are a hot sleeper
I had done a great deal of research prior to purchasing the mattress and went to the Richmond office to test it. At the office I feel in love with the firm mattress, it felt comfortable, cool and like laying on a cloud.
I ordered the mattress online and it came really quickly which was good and bad (bad being when you want something to take the longer side of estimated delivery time!) but that was no real issue.

But as the weather has warmed up it is now unbearably hot, I’m sweating a lot more at night than I did with my old mattress, I’m struggling to sleep because of it as well, I haven’t had a good night sleep in over a month now. A part from using their own bedding I ensured I used bamboo based bedding and it didn’t help either. I contacted the support team and they couldn’t have been more helpful. I was going away for a couple days and was told no rush to fill out the return form and even with submitting during public holidays they have been really responsive, if only their mattress could be as good as the customer service, a lot of businesses could learn from these guys.

However we're very sorry to hear that you've been experiencing issues with the heat in the mattress. We tend to see a spike in heat related queries as the seasons begin to change, as people switch bedding. Our mattress is a Hybrid design - a combination of pocket springs and foam, is going to be much cooler to sleep on than a full foam mattress. We use a Hyper-Adaptive foam that is 8 times more breathable than memory foam and latex. We have produced it via a foam making process known as Pressure Foaming. This uses pressure expansion rather than chemical reactions to expand the foam, and results in that added breathability. However in comparison to a traditional full spring mattress, you may find the Hybrid design slightly warmer. This is also subjective to the individual as many find the mattress to be cooler, though some find it to be too warm. I find it very comfortable, so far no sagging and I'm a heavy guy. The combination of foam and pocket springs works to make it supportive and, so far, durable. The only downside is the weight, it makes rotating the mattress a two person job.

The Firm will have you feeling extra supportive, especially in your back :) The Duck is definitely on the heavier side sitting at 48kg for the Queen, we hope it's not too much trouble for you. From our experience, the style of bases can contribute to the ease of rotating. If your mattress is sitting directly on top of your base, it's easier to slide the mattress. I feel physically healthier
Although initially my back was sore when first sleeping on the mattress, it got much better after a week. I felt like I was sleeping straighter and not curved up. We stay in hotels often for work but want to come home as we miss our sleeping duck for comfort and to wait up feeling physically better.

What we find is that for most customers, their comfort level changes over the first 21 nights. This is due to the production, as we use a process called pressure expansion (as compared to chemical expansion) which makes the foam 8x more open than standard. However in comparison to a traditional full spring mattress, you may find the Hybrid design slightly warmer. This is also subjective to the individual as many find the mattress to be cooler, though some find it to be too warm. There are a few things you can do to help minimise with the heat in the mattress. We recommend using light breathable layers all year round. Remove any large and bulky mattress toppers and protectors and opt for a waterproof cover using natural fibres such as Tencel, bamboo and cotton. Using the correct slatted base will also optimise the airflow through the mattress. Also keeping your room well ventilated, opening windows for as long as possible during the day. What a surprise a perfect fit for both of us.
Great mattress that totally delivered on its advertising. We did a lot research before selecting Sleeping Duck and. It disappointed. Sleep is a dream pardon the pun and mattress feels exactly the same today as the day we bought it. My husband quite often says I love getting in our new bed like sleeping on a cloud.

We tend to get this kind of feedback from people who are more on the 'restless sleeper' side of things.
For example, we manufacture our Sleeping Duck sheets to be a little deeper (39cm) to ensure that they fit the depth of our mattress which is 31cm. However, I'm sure this extra length could potentially assist in the sheets wriggling upwards throughout the night - which I can understand would be a tad frustrating.
I would recommend ensuring that the sheets have been completely fitted over the sides of the mattress.

thanks but that's not really practical when one has arthritis and the mattress weighs heavy. I sleep well despite this and never have any neck or back aches.... that's the most important quality! I might try a less slippery mattress protector and see if that helps.

I would like to use my existing base. It has wooden slats 7 cm wide and about 11 cm apart. They are covered with some material which provides a little bit of padding over the slats. Are there any problems using an existing base?

Our mattress can be used on an existing base, given that it does meet our requirements in terms of the structure and centre support to ensure the mattress will uphold the 10 year longevity.
If you have a slatted bed base, you need to ensure the slats aren't anymore than 8cm apart. Queen and King sizes also require adequate centre support.
