[Revised: See update] Good oven, but far from perfect. Loud clicking sounds driving me crazy.
I would like to post an update to this review and revise my rating.
As per the comments below this review, Smeg contacted me regarding the issues I stated in my initial review (below) and organised a senior technician to come out and take a look at the oven.
They stated the loud clicking was most likely the relay and would click whenever the oven thermostat was regulated.
The technician mentioned that with some earlier models, there was an issue where the relay was not large or powerful enough to handle the operation of the oven and found i...Read more
n some instances, it would burn out. Enough so, that Smeg decided to put a larger relay in the new models to prevent this from occuring. The technician first tried moving the physical location of the relay, in case it was contributing to the noise, but it continued to click at the same level.Purchased in May 2021 at The Good Guys Online store for A$3,999.00.

They stated the loud clicking was most likely the relay and would click whenever the oven thermostat was regulated. The technician mentioned that with some earlier models, there was an issue where the relay was not large or powerful enough to handle the operation of the oven and found in some instances, it would burn out. Enough so, that Smeg decided to put a larger relay in the new models to prevent this from occuring. The technician first tried moving the physical location of the relay, in case it was contributing to the noise, but it continued to click at the same level. He mentioned he would go back to his office and discuss the issue and get back to me with other options. He also mentioned he would be going to Smeg head office in Italy not long after, and would also address the issue there. He contacted me shortly after, to say there were no other options at that point in time, but would contact me again when he returned from Italy with any further options to resolve the issue. Full credit where it's due, a few months later he called me to say he had a possible solution and organised a time to come back and see if it would make a difference. The solution was to install a smaller relay, which is a little concerning, as it had already been mentioned that the smaller relay may burn out after a while. The replacement smaller relay definitely fixed the issue and the oven no longer makes the loud clicking sound. It now sounds like a normal oven when regulating temperature and is hardly noticeable. I am happy with the solution, as the clicking sound was driving me insane, and at least I know if there is any future issue with the oven not heating up, the first place to look will be the smaller relay. It has now been a couple of months since the relay was replaced and (knock on wood) we have not had any further issues. Based on the resolution of this issue and also the time and care taken by Smeg to help, I would revise my rating from 2 stars to 4 stars. It is a great oven and even better now that the clicking issue has been resolved. I also have the comfort of knowing that Smeg will go above and beyond to help their customers. Thank you again to everyone at Smeg.
