Discontinued? I’m not surprised.
I’ve had a Sodastream Crystal machine, which came with the reusable glass bottle, for just over 12 months now. I do NOT recommend purchasing this model for several reasons.
The Crystal has now disappeared from the Sodastream Australia website, and I note that Myer no longer stocks the Crystal machine, although they are still selling the compatible bottles. That may not necessarily mean that it has gone for good, but you would think that the official website would say that the Crystal is currently out of stock in that case.

This means that if you need to replace your Crystal with another Sodastream machine, your bottles simply become carafes. Obviously, this isn’t a negative in itself, but one of the more attractive reasons for purchasing the Crystal model was the environmental aspect. Hopefully the company brings out new machines which will be compatible with these glass bottles. The mechanics of the machine are clunky and unergonomic. The plastic seems too thin to withstand the pressure exerted on the top button and locking mechanism. I can’t see my Crystal lasting for too long. The hard plastic cover for the gas canister falls off at the slightest movement. It doesn’t lock in place effectively. The back cover is also so flimsy that it wouldn’t offer any protection if the gas were to escape with force.Makes very mildly fizzy water
I received a soda stream crystal as a gift for Christmas. It's ok, but I wouldn't recommend it. The main reason is the water isn't very bubbly. After seeing the feedback on my initial review here I switched up from four "burps" of gas as recommended in the manual to 8-10 burps of gas, which with my original gas canister was ok - not great, but ok.
Once that canister ran out I got a replacement / refill gas canister from Countdown in New Zealand. With that one, even 12 "burps" of gas and the water is only slightly bubbly on the first glass, and
... Read more by the time I'm near the end of the 1L bottle it's completely flat - even though the lid is on the whole time and it only takes me about 20 minutes to drink the whole thing. The 99c sparkling water from the supermarket is much, much bubblier. I have to wonder if there's something wrong with this replacement / refill gas canister, or the soda stream machine. I'm about ready to toss this thing in the rubbish, or return it for a refund. It's really not very good at making bubbly water. Also, when I release the bottle after making bubbly water the part of the machine rises up to release the bottle as it's meant to, but not quite high enough or faster enough. The bottle always catches on the white gas injector, which makes me think it will break at some point. It takes ages to rise up as well, so I end up pushing it up so all the gas doesn't escape before I can get the lid on the bottle. It's a pointless gimmick that makes things worse. If you have to get a soda stream machine, get the cheaper version. I got this version to avoid microplastics, but given water is delivered in plastic pipes, filtered in a plastic water pitcher, having it in a glass bottle for 20 minutes doesn't help. So all in all it's really not a very good product, and I don't think it's worth the money. The cheaper soda stream model I had about 5 years ago worked a LOT better. I regret suggesting my wife buy this as a present. I will probably try a different brand.Thanks. I pushed it until I got about 8 bursts of gas today, it was better.
Good but light on instructions
I've only had this a few weeks, and wanted a soda stream because I love cold fizzy water, but don't want to add to waste. I got this model rather than the cheaper one as it has glass bottles, and I like drinking out of glass. It comes with one bottle and 2 glasses, and I purchased a second bottle for about $15 from David Jones. The unit looks nice. At first I was disappointed as the water was not fizzy, but after reading the positive review that was already on here looked it up on youtube. You have to press the top down about 7 times for 1 to 2 seconds. I was pressing once and holding it down. So it seems quite good, but instructions on how to use would be good.

No more plastic bottles - Sodastream Crystal - the best way to make your own sparkling drinks.
It's worried me for some time that I take a few plastic drink bottles a week and dump them in the recycling bin. I'm also trying to de-plastic our home. So I did the maths and figured that this product from Sodastream - Crystal Titan - would be the best for me. Even allowing for the fact that this model is at the top of the range, factoring in the cylinder cost, compared with buying mineral water this is more economical. This model features glass bottles! Yes! The Promo pack contains the unit, plus a cylinder that can make 60 litres of very fi

The bubbles are quite large, not so much like the 'mousse' of quality champagne, but very sharp and refreshing. The machine itself is pretty intuitive, so the fact that the instructions are a bit sparse was not a worry. There is a good video on Youtube and on sodastream.com.au which will make you feel better about the noise of the process. I would have liked some DIY cordial recipes but the company website has quite a bit of info on it. They also sell flavours on that site. Recipes for DIY syrups are available on the web if that is your thing. You can pour your soda over the top of some fresh fruit eg. passion fruit or mix it with wine for a DIY cooler. FYI, the unit stands 450 mm tall at the highest point so it is necessary to clear a space for it if you don't want to store it permanently on the bench. So far so good - it makes dense bubbles that don't go flat for ages in a glass - days longer if kept in the Sodastream bottles in the fridge. Use colder water for a better result. My next step will be to make some tonic water and have ordered some special syrups crafted in Tasmania. No more bottles to landfill from this family! It is a great product - stainless steel base with plastic at the back. Myer price-matched so I bought a second 600 ml bottle. (essential as they only hold 600 ml. and it's good tot put the water in the fridge before processing) There's another thing I appreciate - this small logo was on the box with an impressive message. Water is very important in that region so it is quite heartening to see the company's commitment to peace and brotherhood along with making a great, water-related product.Find out how Sodastream Crystal compares to other Soda Makers

Questions & Answers
I was about to purchase a SodaStream maker, but online I have seen some terrible reviews and really doubting my decision. Am I eligible for a full refund if it’s not doing what it is supposed to ?
Many people are saying it doesn’t get very fizzy, that you never get 60 litres…many one star out of 5.
I would probably buy a different brand or model, though it works ok. I've made approx 52 bottles (liters?) of very bubbly water and it's still got some gas left. I like the glass bottle, but I don't like the silly mechanism that goes up and down, because after you make the drink it goes up slowly and the bottle always catches on the gas injector. So it works ok, I just don't really like it that much. The standard model I had 5 years ago seemed to work better.
Thankyou very much for your advice and help.
I agree with Tim. I would never buy the Crystal model from SodaStream again. It has terrible ergonomics. I’ll buy a different brand or Sodastream model now, and make sure that I test them out in store before buying.
Hi Deborah, thanks for your comment. Please know all of our Sparkling Water Makers come with a 2 year warranty (You can also get an additional 2 years if you register your Sparkling Water Maker on our website here: https://sodastream.com.au/pages/register-your-product).
While our CO2 cylinders can give you up to 60 litres of sparkling water with a light fizz, if you like to have stronger carbonating, this will be less and is dependent on your gas usage. We hope this helps!
