Once you go Subaru, you never go back
The performance is Great, the version gets a huge technical upgrade, I love the tech features.
Eyesight is very clever safety feature, it can literally auto brake to avoid an accident if you ignore the first warnings (it beeps and the dash LED's flash Red when usually blue).
Adaptive Cruise control keeps to the speed you set with a very fine tolerance both accelerating & braking as required. Auto stop saves me about 1.1litre of petrol per cumulative hour stopped at lights (approx per tank of fuel). Keyless entry is very handy, The roof rack d...Read more
esign is clever (folds away when not required). I don't like the auto boot opener (It would be quicker to open it yourself). It is possibly a little under-powered for the occasional foot plant, but I'm happy to forgo that for the everyday economy & the surety all wheel drive gives you on the road. Otherwise a very capable car, Thrilled with it overall. Happy to be back in a Subaru.

Excellent family car
Bought an outback for the extra space after I had my 2nd child. Lots of room in the boot to fit all baby items when going to holidays. Plenty of room for the front passemger even with rear facing car seat in the back.
Very smooth to drive and during gear changes. Lots of safety features keep the family safe eg. Lane departure. Decent on petrol around town amd excellent on the highway.

Subaru outback 2016
The performance is good, and this version gets more technical staff.
Eyesight is pretty smart, and can improve safety. it can auto start/stop to avoid accident. Usually I set the speed for 60Km, and then follow the car in front of me. it'll keep the proper speed to make sure no over speeding.

Good four wheel drive
Good medium to large size SUV FWD! steering wheel is a bit heavy to drive for me (Female) but when i make turn it's so smooth and stable. so different feeling from 2 wheel drive tiguan my first car. Leather seats feel nice and comfortable. it gets a bit sticky when it's hot weather. pretty quiet to drive, sometime you hear sounds of gear changing which is not bad. iSight function is really smart and easy to use. When you cruise drive, it automatically reduce speed if front of car is too close to your car. you can set the distance between cars. ...Read more
Inside is really spacious, i love automatic seat adjustment for front seat. Trunk is very spacious. i dont really like the touch screen dash board, it's annoying to use it while you drive not user friendly. GPS map is useless, we use Google map instead of it because it always show us longer direction than google map. I have to update this GPS system every 3 years with $300 plus with my own cost. If i have a choice i want to get rid of it and not wasting money to update it every three year. Overall cost wise, automatic sensors, heat seats, iSight, leather seat etc.. i am pretty happy with this car!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Fantastic AWD vechile
I find the new Subaru Outback (Premium 2.5lt) at the mid 40k price point very very hard if not impossible to beat when all other manufacturers are stacked up against it.
Like so many others on this forum i found that this vechile with its technology and 5 star safety systems was miles ahead of the competion and build quality is second to none.
Compliant comfortable frugal on fuel and abundant space i challenge anyone looking for a practical stylish safe and above all reliable AWD SUV to do better.
FANTASTIC CAR !!!

How much better can an affordable car get???
This is my 4th Subaru and without any doubt the best one yet. This 2017 2.5i Premium replaces a 2007 Outback which I had always thought was a great car. The new one is 10years of development on and so much better than the old. The wider body and the slightly higher ride make for a very comfortable driving position, as do the seats and the general ergonomics of the car. The wagon body offers a huge amount of space compared to other SUV styles and brands around this price point.
On the safety side, the excellent Eyesight system fitted to most S...Read more

So much better than expected
Could not ask for anything more from my Outback. Upgraded from a Liberty Wagon and the difference has been night and day. I loved the ride and feel of my Liberty, but it doesn't hold a candle to the smooth, consistent ride in the Outback. Adaptive Cruise Control is amazing, and it drives like a car of much smaller size. Engine has enough power to do what it needs to. Overall I really couldn't recommend it enough - so happy with my purchase.

Great Car, Smooth Driving
The driving experience is great, smooth on the roads, very spacious interior. My model with leather seats which are incredibly comfortable. The steering isn't heavy for long distance driving and traffic don't bother me. Only problem I can name is all the safety guards, for lane changing, etc. This means constant alarms are going off to tell you these things, which can be distracting while you are driving. Fuel efficiency is great and I only fuel up about once a week, on regular work week, with a medium amount of driving. Overall, nice interior, good cost, great driving. Insurance is high but that was expected.

This is the perfect car!
This is a great car to drive, easy steering, comfortable & spacious interior with plenty of legroom. Handles well, eats up rough roads, interior noise is low form engine & outside noise. Dash good, GPS great & easy to use.
I do a lot of driving approx 100km per week; petrol & running costs are very economical.

Nice vehicle Safe to Drive.
Hi I have owned my 2016 Outback since September last last.
Fuel 8.5 lts per one hundred km have travelled 9000 kms.
Driving it is a joy to drive around corners and coastal roads due to Subaru AWD
I also like the adaptive cruise control where you can set a 2 second gap to vehicle in front of you. The automatic lights along with high beam is also a plus Ron country roads.
The vehicle also has eye sight monitoring along with both rear and front radars which assist in safety features such as lane movements and drifting out of lanes.
The air conditioner is adequate for the vehicle but is a little under powered on mid thirties weather. The build quality appears to be of good quality with no squeaks or rattles.

The CVT transmission is a massive let down and really limits the Outback in anything other than mundane road travelling. The vehicle struggles to tow anything close to rated tow. Transmission will struggle up gentle hills and has very little grunt. If they could put a dual clutch system in similar to VW the car would be perfect. This will be my last Subaru. The infotainment system is confusing and outdated the auto system is limited and rarely works. Also lift the bonnet the motor layout and lacking cover is cheap lookingSimilar opinion? So far so good, Nice car.
Purchased nearly 12 months ago and love it, great to drive, love the adaptive cruse control and the other safety lane guidance and warning systems, to which you get use to having and would find it hard to put your wife and children in to another car without it.
Only gripe is the auto start stop, which is frustrating, annoying, stupid etc... etc... it is not smooth, i do not see how it is going to save you money due to the wear and tear on the starter and battery system. Asked Subaru to disable at first service to which was told they couldn'...Read more
t. later found if you have a tow bar fitted you just need to remove the magnet in the lid and it will disable the auto start stop. The other bonus is the insurance cost, 5 star ancap ratting and all the tech safety makes it cheep to insure. saving nearly $700 per year from the insurance on the old Toyota Prado. The best car I have ever owned.
This is an AWD vehicle that drives, handles and is as comfortable as a luxury sedan
Has the most up to date hi tech that I have ever seen in a vehicle. Like the eye sight pre collision warning system, radar cruise control, lane departure warning and so much more.
Is very economical average approx 7 litres per 100 kms.
The only criticism I have is the 6 month servicing which I think should be at least 9 or 12 months.
I purchased my vehicle new from Ballarat Subaru and cannot recommend them highly enough.

This is such a brilliant car. Great styling, wonderful colours and fabulous quality. The safety features are state of the art and too numerous to mention. Do yourself a favour and buy one of these cars now. Don't wait. Just do it. Go, go, go. I can't believe how good this car is.

Best car have driven in a very long time
I average approx 50-60 thousand kms per year so I know this car well. It is very comfortable, economical, very well appointed and very capable off road much more than you would imagine. Quite quick with the 2.5lt petrol. Was concerned about the CVT gearbox but have no regrets and it genuinely feels like a standard auto. Subaru have excelled with this design. Well done!

My first Subaru and wont be my last
Background: have driven many different cars for many years and my specs to buy a new car were as follows;
- the latest safety features (best safety features on any vehicle - i.e. eyesight)
- flexible seating and storage (great boot in the Subaru but almost bought a mazda cx5 because of the 40/20/40 split which the subaru doesnt have)
- Comfortable, quiet and reasonably fuel efficient
- Good warranty (no - I bought mine two months before they brought out the five year warranty)
- Do plenty of travelling so wanted a good highway cruiser with...Read more

Seriously! The best car I ever had.
I have had many cars in my life. Some good, some mediocre. This is my second Subaru Outback. The first was a 2014 diesel one. A huge disappointment. Not that it was a bad car, but simply the diesel, because of its particle filter, is NOT suited for city driving. The filter cloggs up and if you do not act quickly, it can seriously damage your engine. So, I had traded in in for a 2016 2.5 Premium Outback. What a difference! This is an excellent car in every respect. Exterior has been re-designed to such a degree that it is now a very attractive v...Read more
ehicle. Chalk and cheese compared with the old Subaru. It now comes with a five year, unlimited kilometres warranty plus five year road assist. The premium comes with leather appointed seats, sun roof, heated front seats and a long list of goodies including rear camera, GPS, rain sensing wipers, keyless entry and many other gizmos you will surely appreciate. The cabin is spacious accommodating up to five people in comfort. The boot is huge and self opening. There is a full size spare wheel too. The wheels are attractive 18 inch alloys. The ride is very comfortable on good roads as well as off road. Constant four wheel drive is great too. The car sits beautifully and you feel safe in the wet. The highlight is the technologically advanced Eyesight driver assist system which, apart from other things includes the fabulous Adaptive cruise control. The petrol consumption is reasonable for a relatively heavy vehicle. I avarege 9.2 litres per 100 kilometres around Melbourne. On the open road the consumption dramatically improves. Melbourne to Geelong I averaged 6.5. You can constantly monitor the petrol consumption via centrally located trip computer. This is not a sports car. Acceleration is not breathtaking but good enough for safe overtaking. I also love the blue illumination of the dials. Incidentally, you can select this from a number of different colors available. The sound system is reasonable and on board infotainment is user friendly. The whole automobile gives you the sense of quality and luxury. Subaru had dropped their prices by a significant amout. Close to five grand I believe. So this outstanding vehicle cost me $44.000 drive away. The only thing I can criticize is the need for six monthly service which is capped though for the duration of the warranty. Good news also is that the car runs on 91 octane petrol. So, in conclusion, this is a remarkable car. Hopefully nothing will go wrong with the electronics a the car is packed with it. Highly reccomended!!Purchased in April 2021.

Hard to pass by
Ultimate long distance cruiser. Lots of rear legroom. Easy on fuel compared to previous 2008 Liberty. Runnung Costs are low. Insurance costs are low. Starts first time every time. Luggage capacity is large. Extra power sockets handy. Full-sized spare tyre is appreciated. GPS SatNav can be slow to respond but works fine otherwise. CVT takes a bit of getting used to if you have not used one before. Finding it hard to better the specs for the price.

After nearly two years of ownership the car still shines. Service prices have been better than for the 2008 Liberty I had previously Maintenance has been minimal and the car has been around 9 litres per 100km in the city. Still love this car.
Another year later, have found out that a GPS update will cost me despite having a written promise that it is covered by normal servicing. at nearly Au$300 for this simple update, it is price-gouging at it's best. Bad move Subaru.

Not 100% Perfect
9 months since delivery. Comfortable drive for city and interstate driving. However simple areas needed more attention, like no automatic central locking when the vehicle drives off - this features is available in a $20K Holden Cruze. Sat Nav outdate already and often incorrect, driver can't control all the windows if the window lock is on for child safety. Overall the vehicle is excellent for its price point and provides excellent features and technology as standard, where as other manufactures you would have to pay an arm for but if the simple everyday required features were given attention at the design stage, it certainly would be 100% perfect. This is my second Subaru and would most likely buy another next time.

Anyone with problmens/noise when opeming power tail gate?

Mine has been ok but only had the car one week. How has the steering been on yours? Mine wanders at highway speed. Taking it back to the dealer tomorrow

Have just purchased a 2022 Subaru Outback, and first drive on the highway I find the steering extremely poor. I stopped at first service station and found tyre pressures ranged from 190 kpa to 260 kpa. I adjusted them to the recommended 230 front and 240 back and did improve but the steering still veers to the left. I did investigate a bit more and found the US model has a bunch of complaints similar to mine on the steering. It seems you have to concentrate and drive with continual corrections as soon as you go over 80 kmh. Interested if any one else has had similar issues with the car. We now have 100 km up on the car and I am extremely disappointed. Wondering if I have purchased a lemon??

Thank you Iggy, I dont drive much the car, its has 35Kms, i had the car for almost 4 years now and as i dont drive above 100kms p/h haven't noticed anything weird on steering. Hoerver picked up my attention that OEM tyres are already low, when i had my first liberty back in 1995 OEM tyres last 80Kms! there are many complains in the use for faulty motor on the power lift tail gate.

Our M2017 after the twenty four month service (only 25500kms) has developed the shakes when the aircon and aux fan start up on a hot day under idle at traffic lights. Her idle appears to be set at the 750/800 mark and she drops back to 650 when both of those items kick in. My service dept states that the shake is normal?????

yes, poor answer. i have some noises when i pass form P to R or D, at subaru docklands they said is normal. I believe while under warranty, they dont see extra $$$, so its normal

servicing. Most modern cars these days require once a year or 15000km service whichever comes first. I believe that the new Outback which is to be released sometime next year will have only once a year service. I will definitely upgrade my Subaru for the next Outback when released and available in Australia. The next Subaru will also have five year warranty which is the norm these days. In summary, this is an excellent vehicle particularly for longer trips. Then the consumption also decreases dramatically. We get about 6 lt/100km on the open road. sometime even less. Consumption around the city is higher, around 9lt/100km which is still quite reasonable for a car of this size. Still highly recommended, although I would wait for the new generation Outback now. I hasten to add that Eastern Subaru in Lilydale, Victoria, is incredible. Friendly, professional team you can trust.
