How much does this sunbeam food lab cost run an hour.
Can you use baking paper with this dehydrator to keep small food items from falling through the huge holes? I want to dehydrate diced vegetables so they are ready to throw in soups and stews, but the holes on this dehydrator are huge.
I haven't tried baking paper but I only dry fruit at 60deg and you can eat it straight out of the dryer so baking paper would be ok at this temp
I have used it to dehydrate apricots. 14hrs at 60 they still feel tacky/sticky should I do it longer. once you do it and allow too cool down is it ok to do it a few more hrs. They do not look like the shop ones so hard to compare, I know they use preservatives and Sulphur. thanks in advance.
Hi john rimo,
Best results are achieved when quality food is used. Select produce at the peak of ripeness, colour and flavour, for the highest nutritional content.
You can dry overripe produce success...
Read morefully, as long as you remove any spoiled areas. It is recommended to keep records of humidity, weight of produce before and after drying times, will be helpful in improving your drying techniques for the future. Cool fruit before testing for the final degree of dryness. Most fruit will be soft and pliable when properly dried. NOTE: The maximum drying time is 19 and a half hours. If you wish to run for longer, you will need to allow the unit to cool down before restarting. Turn the power button off, then unplug and let the unit cool down for at least 2 hours before operating again.
Can any one tell me how many watts this unit uses?
I want to run it off grid and need to know if my little inverter can keep up with its power demands.
Thanks
Love my Sunbeam dehydrator but it’s giving me trouble. Everything I’ve dried has taken around 3 times as long as the recipe suggests. When fruit roll ups took 24 hours to dry I got a thermometer with a probe and tested the internal temperature. 52 degrees, but I’d had it set at 70 for hours. Today I returned that unit and came home with a new one. I’ve turned it on (empty) set at 70 degrees, and put the thermometer probe in. After two hours running the internal temperature is only 57 degrees. Any suggestions re what’s going on?
I brought my DT6000 dehydrator 4 days ago at Harvey Norman, filled it with Jerky today it went for about 45 minutes then shut off and wont turn back on .
Hi,
I’ve used my dehydrator about 20 times but in the last 2 years it’s been packed away. I pulled it out tonight and filled it full of meat to make some jerky, switched it on at the wall and it just trips the circuit breaker or safety switch. Tried 3 different circuits to no avail. Pulled it apart, cleaned all the connectors and checked everything and it is all like new as is the rest of the machine. Could it be the element with a short to earth causing the issue?
Can you use thawed frozen berries in place of fresh please ?
My sunbeam dehydrator has been great for a year or so, up until now, where I’ve found that the fan doesn’t want to spin any more. Where can I get spare parts? I’m not buying a whole new one. For the price I paid, and the cheapness of the construction along with sunbeams reputation, this thing should last for ever!!
Hello Karl S,
Sorry to hear about this, could I ask how long ago you purchased this unit and if you still have your proof of purchase. I'm sure I can organise a replacement for you, with proof of purchase.
Hi Sunbeam customer care, it would have been in 2018 now that I think about it, I have moved house since then and don’t think I’d have a proof of purchase still unless I can pull up a credit card transaction or similar.
My dehydrator seems to take an incredibly long time to produce a dried product. I have had cherry tomatoes in the dehydrator for 52 hours now on 60 degrees and they are still not dry. Is this normal? Or could it be faulty?
My first attempt was dried small chillies which took 5 days.
Hello Jess,
Following the manual, on page 15, it says to have tomatoes on 45C and it should take 10-12 hours (https://www.sunbeam.com.au/Root/Specifications/InstructionBooklet/DT6000_IB_1.pdf). It als...
thank you for the prompt response. I have done another batch and will see how it goes with them cut in half and at the above recommended settings. In my first attempt I increased the temperature to 60...
Read moreC as the 45C wasn't working however I did have them whole so will see how they go now that they are cut in half. So with this in mind, does this mean that I cannot dry whole chillies in this dehydrator?Do you have information or a chart on how to activate different types of nuts in your food lab electronic dehydrator DT6000 as there is no mention of this in your user guide
Hi Craig,
I do not believe we do have a chart, only the information in the Instruction book.
We bought a dehydrator from Harvey Norman last weekend. Have tried using it at different temperatures but the fan doesn’t seem to come on. It is very hot to touch at the back of the unit and cool at the front. We think it may be faulty?
I've used the dehydrator a few times, but today it simply won't turn on. Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas how I can fix it? Thanks guys, appreciate any help.
Just bought a DT6000. Seems fine but I cannot work out how to run fan only with no heater. Is this possible as that is the final stage of making biltong?
You cant... You can only set the lowest temp and time
Hi Phil, the best setting for you would be the lowest temp and time as it is not designed to just use the fan on it's own sorry.
I have had my dehydrator for nearly four years
and used it nearly daily for the first two and a half, but it hasn't been used at all for last 18 months. I turned it on today, and found it will beep when the power is turned on at the wall, but the LED display will not turn on at all. Anyone else experienced this and/or know how to fix it?
Can I dehydrate activated nuts using this Sunbeam DT 6000 dehydrator. How is it done? Thank you.
I use the table on the Lorna Jane website, it has all the different soaking times and dehydration times for different kinds of nuts, I find it really easy to follow :)
