Absolutely love it!
Absolutely the best slow cooker hands down. So simple to use big buttons, big display screen and very straight forward. The bowl insert is very easy to clean with warm soapy water and a cloth no need for scrubbing. The cord stores underneath well. Only downside is the size of the unit therefore takes up a bit of storage space but that big size is a positive when cooking big meals.

Perfect
After reading up on different models I chose this one and checked its rating on choice website as they test a lot of them and compare them. I was very happy to find it was rated as one of the best ones . I love the fact that it has browning option mainly because it gets the meal started cooking very quickly, I start it on browning to sear meat sauté onions etc then bring everything to boil then press slow cooker button and start and it simmers away with great results. I make chilli con carne, soups, pasta sauce, meat casseroles, curry etc. very easy to clean and lightweight dish is so much safer and easier than my old heavy crock pot. Can't wait to try more recipes .

Best thing since sliced bread
I love everything about it looks fantastic, cooks beautifully very easy to clean and best of all I don't have to stand over a hot cooktop or oven,I just wish they included a bigger recipe book.I would highly recommend this because not only is it a slow cooker but it has the function to sear as well.

Good replacement for old workhorse
When our slow cooker final gave up the ghost it was with some trepidation that we started looking for and researching a replacement. Slow cooking was our preferred cooking method due to goo results, economy and convenience.
Our Sunbeam Secret Chef has not disappointed. It performs well and in fact is just a little easier to clean. (Older arthritic hands were beginning to have difficulty lifting heavy insert). We are very happy with our choice.

Perfect kitchen appliance.
Love how easy it is to operate. The searing option works really well and adds to overall flavour of meal. Super easy to clean, nice and light cooking insert makes it easy to pick up and wash up. Large enough to make double recipe for larger families or group dinners. Control panel easy to access and set up. Highly recommend this for easy healthy meals.

Very handy, but can't quite do what I would like.
Unfortunately, it doesn't have a delay timer. Setting it to cut in at a later time would be better. When I use the slow cook 8 hours, everything is way overdone by the time I get to it. So now I'm only letting it cook for about 4 hours then let it stay on warmer, which is about 80C, until I get home. I was hoping to use it on the days when I'm away all day. But 8 hours cooking is too long. I'm still experimenting. Hoping it will be a great investment. If you use it when you're there, it's great, because you can check it. Did slow cook lamb for about 3-4hrs, and it was perfect. I normally cook them in the oven for more than 10hrs. So, it definitely has it's benefits. Just need to experiment, and figure it out.

Love it
Super easy to clean. Love being about to seat onions etc prior to putting it onto slow cook. Also love the warm feature. We usually eat early and I leave it on warm until my husband gets home. It is really warm!!! Not burning, doesn't keep cooking. Just perfect. Love it. I have had three different slow cookers and this is my favourite.

Never knew I needed one!
I never thought I would use a slow cooker but I now use it heaps! Great for casseroles, pulled pork, chilli con carne, slow cooked lamb, etc. Cleans really easily. Big enough to make double recipes to feed a hungry family. I'm not sure I have any negatives about it!

Must have in the kitchen
My SecretChef literally paid itself off in months. I've done roasts, stews, soups, lasagne, breads - you name it, the world is your oyster. Just think outside the box and you can literally use this little gem to cook anything. I love the browning feature as you don't have to use a separate frypan creating extra dishes and the warm feature is fantastic too. It's easy to clean although I usually just chuck the insert and the lid in the dishwasher. I would highly recommend to anyone looking at investing in a slow cooker that this is your go to appliance.

Love this
This is one good slow cooker
Good results with all recipes tried
Doubles up as a good food warmer for larger occasions. Really easily cleanable One problem is the rubber feet broke and fell off soon after purchase.
The browning feature on this product is a highly functional feature. Overall 5 star rating
Would recommend as a good buy

Meal time game changer
I couldn't live without my slow cooker we purchased in April 2016 and it was used extensively through the cooler weather. The browning function means that you don't need to dirty a frying pan when a recipe (particularly those that use a base mix) call for browning of the meat. The keep warm function means I can put it on before work and a meal will be waiting for us at the end of the day. Cheap cuts of meat work best as it breaks down the fat and creates tender meat. To avoid over cooking or dry meat don't cut too small. The large size mea...Read more
ns you can cook enough for a family with plenty of left overs to freeze or take for lunch the next day. It's easy to clean with both the pan and the lid able to go in the dishwasher. The non-stick surface is still non-stick nearly a year on.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

soooo good to have!
I bought this slow cooker so I could come home to ready meals after long days helping with newborn twin grandchildren. Not only is dinner ready when we get home, it is full of wonderful flavours that are the result of the slow cooking. Works brilliantly for curries, stews and roasts, and for many other recipes too. I have been able to easily increase the range of recipes I use weekly. Very easy to clean.

Not a slow cooker
This is a very disappointing product. I have given about 4 trials and each time the meat has come out tough. I thought maybe at first I hadn't selected 'low' on the slow cooking function. Incidentally, in my opinion it would make sense for 'low' to be the default, not the 'high'. A few nights ago I tried again with lamb shanks, searing them first, removing the meat then searing the veg for a few minutes, as per the recipe in the manual. I made sure I then selected slow and low setting. I checked 2 hours later (mindful that it is recommend...Read more
ed not to lift the lid too often), and the meat was well done and the liquid bubbling. Go figure. Not being able to set and forget for even 6 hours, defeats the purpose of a slow cooker. I've been using a slow cooker since the Margaret Fulton slow cooking books were published, a long long time ago, so I'm not a newcomer to slow cooking. I have spoken to Sunbeam's 'customer service' several times, the last to ask if cooking smaller quantities (I cook for 2) changed the times for slow cooking and the answer was no. Also I was told that a member of Sunbeam has this cooker and she always wraps the shanks in baking paper, so as to avoid scratching the pot. Huh? Did I miss this instruction in the manual? As I said, VERY disappointing. Oh, it gets a point for looking good.1 comment
Update. The cooker has now been returned to the retailer.

Fautly product
Purchased the Sunbeam Slow about 2 years ago and found it great the searing function a fabulous feature. 13 months later the non stick coating bubbled and peeled. I purchased a new insert and sure enough after 9 months this one is bubbling. Contacted Sunbeam and was told there was no problem with the non stick coating and replacement parts have 3 month warranty, so buy another one. Sunbeam I am extremely disappointed with your "customer care".

This is the most used item in our kitchen!
I've had mine for years, had had no problems with our unit, its easy to clean just a wipe out with paper towel. Love the fact you can seal meat and veges all in the one unit! Now look to get one for the daughter who has had problems with other slow cookers.

Non stick coating comes off
It's a good unit, especially since you can sear your meat prior to slow cooking. However the non stick coating started to lift after less than 6 months. And now it's starting to rust where the coating has lifted. I have been careful, using plastic utensils etc. so don't expect it too lift so soon. Too bad I lost my receipt.

Love our slowcooker
This has been a great addition to our family mealtime after buying it on recommendation from a friend. It cooks perfectly, and is super easy to clean. We use it often and have made some of the recipes that come with the product booklet including pulled pork, curries and muesli bars. Having the timer makes it really convenient especially if you have guests over. I would absolutely recommend it to others.

is this programmable- that is, can you set a timer to commence cooking at some later time?

Unfortunately not. It's the one feature missing (and something we missed in an earlier slow cooker we had). It does have a "warm" function though, which stays on for around 4 hours once your food is cooked which helps.
Customer C.Sunbeam
Hi DandJ,
Thank you for your question. Sorry - he HP8555 does not have this feature. Have a look at the CHP300 Express Crock XL Multi Cooker. This has a slow cooker function (amongst many others) and has a time delay function that allows you to delay the start of your cooking so that cooking finishes when you need it.
Kind Regards Sunbeam
No DandJ it does not have a preset progam facility which is a pity. What attracted me though was the searing capability which I find to be good and suits my purpose.

Has anyone had trouble with the slow cooker button not working? It won’t scroll through H to low to warm. The timer just changes. Weird. Browning button works. Annoying.
