I have a '93 1.6 ltr vitara which I am thinking of trading in and getting a jimny sierra. I am scared I will regret it due to smaller size engine. I do a lot of highway driving. Any feedback?

The Jimny goes ok on the highway, however it is most comfortable sitting just under 100km/h and about 3900rpm. It can be pushed faster, I just prefer not to sit above 4000 rpm when I am on the highway. It consumes about the same fuel highway/town aswell. I don't know how it would compare to the 93' Vitara.
Thanks RufusM, I didn't think it would quite make the cut. My vitara is a little pocket rocket. Think I will stick to the Grand Vitara.
Yeh i had a vitara too and now have a jimny, its ok on highway, not fantastic. Heaps better car though. Love my jimny

I'm considering buying a 2013 4x4 manual transmission Jimny. Can anyone make a comparison between manual and auto for the Jimny? I notice that fuel consumption is greater in the automatic, which is a minus for me, but is it also a disadvantage to have an automatic transmission when using the 4 wheel drive capability?

Alot of people say auto is better for 4x4ing as it absorbs some of the shock of 4x4ing and you dont have to cook the clutch. Jimnys are awesome by the way as long as your not tall or wide :P
I have a manual Jimny, and my answer would be it depends on your 4x4 skills. If you are new to 4x4 auto can downchange quicker when you might need it so you can keep your revs high. however in my opinion autos are not as good or as fun to drive off-road.
Is it a disadvantage? - hard to say because it also depends on where you want to take it over what terrain
I think it comes down to personal preference.
The auto needs a bigger oil cooler if your taking it onto the beach - wouldn't risk cooking it, manuals take a little more 'driver' skill like others have said - however a lot more able to take punishment than the auto!

do the jimmy's have a problem with the timing belt pulley (harmonic balancer) the one I have purchased it seems to have slipped and I cannot remove the bolt to replace it
1 answer
No that I have noticed, I asked my mechanic to check the belts last time I put it in for a service. He said there was not a problem. I figured out the car idling problems on my car. Turned out it was dodgy fuel from my local servo.

i am looking at buying a 2013 jimmy . it will be used mainly on road. we live in the royal national park and have a 20 minute windey road to get back out to highway. how does it drive around corners and in the wet. Is it safe? Would it roll easily? I love the look of the Jimmy!
2 answers
Can and do roll frequently - brush up on your driving skills as its a rear wheel drive wagon with a high centre of gravity. Not for the feint hearted or the retarded drivers of this world!
Once again, I agree with Slazmo. ( who'd a thunk that! )
its not a performance machine nor is it a low slung WRX type for handling ..
It is a VERY high centre of gravity for such a small vehicle.. Take one for a test drive on a WET day!

I am looking to buy a Jimny 2002 model Auto.. does anyone have any comments about the Auto ofr these vehicles???

A little slow and a bit thirstier, you cant bump or tow start it if the battery fails, but thats all......other than that, its no difference to a manual.
Thats fantastic.. thanks for that .. I did buy it and so far.. so good!

I am considering getting a Suzuki Jimny but I do a fair bit of open road driving at 100kph, is the handling good enough for higher speed open road driving?
2 answers
The jimmy has no probs At speed!handling is excellent and there is still enough torque to put your foot down in 5th gear and overtake(will accelerate up to 130-140 without hesitation).just picked up my 3rd jimmy from Brisbane which I drove back to cairns averaged about 450-500 kilometres a tank!a steering dampener and softer suspension will make the ride more comfortable for some.
Well Im in the UK, I have had my Jimny for about 6 months now, I bought it new. The Jimny is fine for open Tarmac road driving, its a chugger, it chuggs along minding its on business, mine easily cruises at 70mph, and will go over 80 easily when needed, you do have to take it easy in the wet in citys on big rounderbouts or tight corners and bends, due to its height and narrowness, just take it easy and slow down, never put the four wheel drive on whilst on tarmac, wet or dry as this could result in transmission wined up, only use the 4x4 on loose ground, i.e. mud, broken rocks, off road stuff etc. this is where the Jimny excells, its as good as any landrover or many other 4x4's, I really like mine it surely has grown on me, and altered my driving style no end......get one, you wont regret it!

Is there a Left Hand Drive for Suzuki Jimny?
DLW35asked
I live in Perth, pretty close to the ocean and am wondering if I should get a 2012 Jimny rustproofed and paint protected? Do these things have a tendency to rust up in 'normal' conditions? Thanks :)
3 answers
The new Jimnys are pretty good on rust proofing, but like all cars, salt (high salinity atmosphere) has a habit of getting into all sorts of places, generally they have a good reputation for not rusting, even old ones......but it wouldnt hurt if you rust proofed it, it could be an ''added value'' type item when you come to pass it on
Buy a CouplerTec rust unit for it - I have one in my Jimny and I live literally across the road from the beach here on the Gold Coast... No rust at all...
The easiest solution is Fish Oil everywhere! in each hole that exists .. and some that dont.. Fish oil will remove any rust worries!
