I have purchased koala mattress and bed base 7 months ago. The mattress has begun to lose its shape and where my partner and I sleep there are dips in the mattress. The bed base is also very noisy on my side of the bed. We spoke a representative a few months back to make sure it was assembled correctly and everything was set up fine. I did swap the side horizontal side panels which helped for a short period but the middle panel creaked and now my side panel is creaky again. I am lighter then my partner and we are both under 70kg. Do you know what could be causing this? And is the mattress meant to be rotated to prevent impressions?
Sounds like a warranty issue, send us an email at [email protected] and we'll sort it out :)
I have an Eva mattress and it's unusually heavy as compared to other mattresses available in the market.
Do you recommend using Koala bed frame with Eva mattress? Can it withstand the extra mattress weight?
Hello Prafull, thank you for reaching out
Our Koala bed frame has been design to withstand 350KG without impacting the structure of the product - all good :-)
I love the look of this bed base and it was so easy to assemble but I am having the same issue as some others (from what I've seen from the comments). It really creaks a lot, I removed the mattress the other day to make sure everything was where is should be and locked in place, I also have put some little pads underneath as I'm on a wooden floor. Is there any advice you can offer me as I am struggling a bit with this issue.
Good morning Jayde, we are so sorry to hear and this is not normal indeed. Would you be able to reach out to us at [email protected] and provide us with your order number? We will do our best to assist :-)
Thank you. I will.
Hey Jade my base Is creaking too. Did you find a solution?
Good Morning A W, If you could contact us with your order number at [email protected], we would love to help find a solution for you.
Ours creaks like mad too, we wake each other up when turning over. My wife contacted koala at the time (it’s been from day one) and was told to try a rug underneath it, which we really don’t want to do as we love our hardwood floors. Has a solution to this problem been found ?
G’day davenwend1999,
We’re so sorry to hear that you’re not getting the peace and quiet needed for a deep sleep. A night of tossing and turning is rough to say the least, but we have a couple of solutions to fix this up!
Firstly, just make sure the e-blockers (the two smaller, final pieces that slot in underneath the bedhead) are firmly in place - they work to support the whole base so making sure they’re in properly will help!
If you’ve checked those and it’s still being a bit noisy, we’d love to send you some beeswax to help eliminate the noise. Simply apply it to the joints of the base where it’s being noisy and you should find that those pesky creaks are basically gone!
Just give us a call on 1800 575 337 or reach out at [email protected] so we can get that on the way to you and get you having those sweet dreams!

Hello davenwend1999 and koala. Koala ended up sending a brand new one (lucky it's super easy to put together). I would say the creaking lessened for sure. However, recently we moved our room around including the bed and it's now worse than ever! Could I possibly have some of this beeswax you speak of?
G’day Jayde,
Our Customer Care team are the bees knees, and we’re stoked they replaced your bed base! We’re sorry to hear it’s at it again with rudely interrupting your sweet, sweet snoozes though.
We can absolutely send you some beeswax to get you back on track to having sweet dreams, and we’ve got a few other ideas on how we might be able to help too! We’d love to have a chat with you to see what could work? Please reach out to our Customer Care Team on 1800 575 337 or at [email protected], and we’ll get you fixed up as soon as we can :)

G'day Jodi
Queen mattress is 36 x 36 x 160 cm
Queen bed base:
BOX1: 23 x 260 x 110 cm
BOX2: 61 x 228 x 48 cm
BOX3: 67 x 228 x 48 cm
Thanks so much!
Hi! I live in a fairly new building with concrete floors. On top of the concrete we have timber floorboards. Is it advisable to use/stick adhesive (Tesa) protective pads underneath the bed frame?
Great question - I would advise using the protective pads, better safe than sorry!
Can you use the bed base without the headboard? I have a beautiful headboard already and I’m wondering if i didn’t attach the time headboard would the base still function the same or would the mattress slip etc?
Hi there Asha,
Great question, unfortunately the headboard does need to be attached.
Sorry about that.
Hi - I have a Koala queen bed base and Koala queen mattress and was wondering in the future if I replaced the queen with a king mattress - would it fit on the queen bed base? I would have thought it could as the size difference of the mattress is in the width, just that it would take up the entire width of the bed base (which I could live with).
Thanks!
Hi Natalie!
Good question,
Even though the Queen bed base does have that extra space the King mattress is still too wide.
Measurements below:
Queen bed base: 228cm L x 167cm wide
King Mattress: 203cm L x 183cm wide
If I don’t have a koala mattress will mine normal mattress slide on the bed base?
Nathan mate.. if you are unsure if a queen mattress will fit on a queen koala bed base.. your next question must be can you sleep With your eyes closed on a koala bed base
Hey Nath, good question.
The Koala bed base has a matte coating which will give your mattress something to hold on to.
If you do find that it moves at all, we can also send you some feee non-slip grip pads to put between the mattress and the koala bed base.
Hope this helps!

Hi eve, I just saw this and I have a similar issue. It constantly slides. I have a memory foam mattress and the koala bedbase.
G'day Ella,
Could we help you out like we did for Nath? If you can reach out to our friendly customer service team on 1800 575 337 or [email protected], we'd be glad to sort you out with some grips ASAP to make sure you're getting the sweetest (not slippy) dreams :)

How high off the ground is the bed base and how high is the bedhead?
Hi Phillip!
Platform is 23.2cm above ground. Bedhead is 55cm in height (from the platform surface to the top of the bed head)
If you click on the link below then scroll down to the button that says "show all details" you will be able to ee all of the bed base measurements for each size and diagrams!
Recently we have moved and the removalists lost the parts that clip the bed head and base together. Can these be bought separately as it does make a difference to the sturdiness?
Thanks
Linda
Hi Linda!
We'd be happy to replace these for free for you.
I can't see your full name or order number on here so if you can please reach out to us and we will get that organised!

Nat R asked a question 10 months ago about:
Will bed bases be released in the future for double and king single mattress?
I am also interested in a king single to replace an old squeaky pine frame.
Hi Karen,
Thanks for your question!
It is something we are looking into but at the moment we only have the Queen and King size available.
Are there lots of photos available if the base? I am interested in how it is supported to prevent platform from bowing over time, and how feasible it is to clean under once fully assembled? Thanks
Hi there,
I think we already answered this question on the 29th April.
Here is a link to the website where you can view photos of the bed base:
The platform will not bend or bow over time.
Are there lots of photos available of the base please? I am interested in how it is supported to prevent platform from bowing over time, and how feasible it is to clean under once fully assembled? Thanks
Hi there!
Yes, our website has plenty of photos of the bed base. For specifications and diagrams please scroll down and cick "show all details" once you are on the page below:
https://au.koala.com/products/koala-timber-bed-base
Our bed base can support a maximum weight of 590kg.
Cleaning underneath is easy, although there are two middle sections that are unreachable (it's a grid design)
Hope this helps
Hi there, thanks for your reply. The unreachable bits don’t sound very easy to clean :(
You can take the mattress off and lift the base up and vacuum down the middle if you’re that concerned. I don’t think other than a bit of dust there’d be much to clean. Very happy with this bed.
Can you use a double bed on a queen bed frame without it slipping off all the time?
We have designed our bed base in two sizes; Queen and King.
If you have space in your bedroom, you could definitely go for the Queen size base to use with your current double mattress.
The only difference would be that there would be extra room around the outside of the mattress edge and at the foot of the bed! It depends if you like this look or not! I personally like the floating ledge feature and it can hold items as an alternative to having a bedside table for example.
Here are the dimensions of the Queen bed base AND the extra bed base space with a double mattress:
Queen bed base : 228cm length x 167cm width x 80cm height
Timber ledge width on the side: 14.5cm each side of mattress
Base space at foot of the bed: 25cm
I’m contemplating buying bedbase and mattress but concerned about comments re creaking base and mattress sliding. Have these issues been rectified at all.
