2005 Hilux Workmate 4L petrol ?
What are they like on fuel ?
Any problems ?
1 answer
I own an SR 2006 4wd with 120k on the clock, it isn't as bad as some people say but if you have a lead foot it's probably not the engine for you.. I get around 14 to 15 litres per 100ks around town but on a long trip the best I've done is around 12 litres per 100ks, but that is fully loaded with five and luggage/camping stuff..the reason I went for the v6 petrol is that it has the same torque as a same era diesel but it has none of the problems that the diesel has and it gets to speed a lot quicker. I've driven both and I find I enjoy the petrol a lot more but either would be a great choice.

i live in twisting mountain narrow road conditions and am not a speed freak. I find i have to constantly re correct the steering away from the edge. I darent even check my speed because its moved again. I have just had an alignment with no change. Please help. My wife is petrified an we carry a child in the back.

Go and see a tire specialist about road terrain tires. Makes a big difference.
What do you mean re correct the steering do you mean you are slightly sliding across the track or is there something wrong with the steering / if there is something wrong with the steering I suggest you take the utility vehicle to a Toyota Australia workshop to get the problem fixed or if just the tyres perhaps you could try taking the other answers advice
Or you could try taking the vehicle to a quality trustworthy honest and reliable transmission and steering repairs shop
Yeah I also agree with the other answers advice as well try fitting them tyres the other tyres first first if you like

Hey I have a 2010 D4d hilux and I want to know how can i get more power out of it and better fuel economy ? I'm only getting 500 to a tank of fuel ?

You could try fitting aligning and balancing 5 new tyres such as dunlop, Bridgestone, Yokohama or Goodyear tyres or if you want to spend some serious cash some Michellen or pirelli tyres through a quality trustworthy honest and reliable tyres fitting shop
You could get more power from the engine by putting all new parts also known as a engine rebuild or you could put a supercharger on their which would increase the power output by 20 to 40 percent though that would probably put more strain on the motor
Another option is fitting a aftermarket exhaust system at a exhaust specialist shop
Economy comes down mainly to Weight, Driver ability and rolling resistance.
Empty all the unnecessary crap from the back. Who needs to carry around two spare wheels, max tracks, hi lift jack etc unless you are heading out on a trip.
Drive economically, accelerate slowly and use your cruise control (if it has it). Try and maintain your speed slowing and accelerating chews fuel like Cougars chew through boys.
Tyres, make sure that you have correct pressures in them. If you have upgraded to a higher tyre since new then expect poor economy.
A Decent Exhaust, Snorkel and a clean Air filter will all help maximise fuel economy. I carry 300kgs of crap around (Im a tradie) and I get around 600+ from a tank. 10,5l/100kms is average for me.
Seen better and seen worse.

A 2006 Toyota Hilux VIGO D4D KUN26R SR5 is up for sale 130500ks on the clock. Has duel battery (under bonnet), long range fuel tank & snorkel. Bull bar. Carry Boy canopy with Black Widow Travel Mate double draws. Canopy fully lined with marine matting. Rare off road use, has a few scratches and minor stone chips. Full service history, 3inch Taipan Exhaust. Provisions to add roof basket or racks. So...my question is what is it worth?

Not sure though you could try taking it apart shop to ask them or compare the vehicle to another vehicle in the same year and see what they are asking for it
I meant to write the Toyota dealers or compare to a second hand vehicle at a shop
You could try comparison to other vehicles similar on a online sales site on the internet such as gumtree Australia

I am looking at buying a 2007 Hilux at 128 kms 3.0L Turbo diesel tray back..
Would like to know a little of back round history on these if anyone would be kind enough to help me? thanks

Reliable stuff. Might burn the clutch if handled with too much disrespect but that goes for most pickups with manual trans. If automatic trans, be sure to change oil. Check for earlier diesel injector malfunctions and turbo axle play.
Awesome really appreciate that will do. Am a woman, driven 4wds over in nz hunting for a long wile am considered pretty easy on my gear just not the best knowledge on all models and years. Great help thanks again.

I have a 2005 3ltr diesel 4wd hilux was blowing a lot of smoke and would not go over 90km.I got the injectors and pump done they told me this would fix the problem, but it has not fixed the problem and 5 mechanics later still have no idea, and $3500 later. Would anyone have any ideas?

Turboproblems. Check for oil in pressure line to intake. Check turbine for excessive play or chipped wings. Also check pressure valve. If found "ok", measure charge pressure at load. Correct pressure can be asked for at Toyota. Maybe something like 1-1,5 bar while accelerating at road speed and 1500-2000 rpm
It could be other causes such as the gearbox as well or the diff / try taking to the proper Toyota Australia workshop and see if that helps
Sorry if was blowing a lot of smoke it could be engine afterall or what you could try doing is also taking the vehicle to a quality trustworthy honest and reliable exhaust specialist shop and see if that helps
What else you could do is take the vehicle to a diesel specialist engine repairs shop
I was checking out other forums and found out that It could be a simple problem such as the throttle fuse or the vacuum though it's best to leave it to the expert professionals.
It could be even a vacuum problem from the gearbox who knows.
A mechanic that's been fixing vehicles for at least 20 to 30 years should be able to fix the problem / if all the options fail perhaps you could consider purchasing a putting a new engine or upgrading to a quality newer version vehicle.

My 2008 Toyota Hilux D4D Kun 25 2kd ute engine cut off without warning. There was a slight noise like a small cable breaking & engine lost power cutting off. A lot of white smoke was emmitted from exhaust. I have drained fuel tank cleaned out tank & put new fuel in, changed fuel filter and changed the battery. Engine cranks but there is a slight knock & engine can't start. White smoke keeps being emmitted from exhaust when trying to start & there is a small knock. Please kindly advise if you have any advise regarding this problem I am facing? Many Thanks.

Cant help sorry, im no mechanic. I did how ever have power issues until I had fuel filter changed, but before that, i had 1 of 4 h20 sensors replaced. ( my mechanic thought this had contributed to lack of power, and had also some whiteish smoke, turned out to be fuel filter) I am always learning, if yours is a diesel I have no idea
Check your timing belt before trying any more startups. If timing belt ok, consult mechanic, you have a bad injector
white smoke is a different form of firing and it's most likely the head gasket is leaking water so cranking it can bend a con rod.Roger

2009 TOYOTA HILUX
3.0TD 4WD SR5 DC 5M
Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of this vehicle? I've read a few reviews but not enough on this specific vehicle, any info is greatly appreciated as I am wanting to purchase one soon

We drive these, from 2006 to 2010 in underground mining. The hiluxes very rarely see daylight but keep running. We mainly use 2.5 d4d with manual transmission, but they are very durable. Most of them get minor electrical issues, but that is likely due to the environment, all moist and dirt everywhere. The oldest one was a 2002, which started to grow mold because of the moist. We wanted it to die, but no.. Despite shifting without clutch and always hitting full with cold engine. It was replaced some months ago with a 2010 3.0. Runs fine.

My daughter has bought a new Hilux SR5 Diesel Dual Cab 4x4 (Auto). She is having lots of trouble with it not starting and it is very frustrating and disappointing. She has been stranded at night and during the day and has had to call RACQ for assistance. They have not been able to help her as the vehicle will only start when it feels like it. Toyota have now had her vehicle in the workshop for 4 weeks, they have nearly had it for as long as my daughter has owned it! They ordered a new ECU for it and it arrived today. They installed it and the vehicle would not start. Has anyone else had/heard of this problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It's probably better to take it to a totally different quality trustworthy honest and reliable mechanical shop or a auto electrician shop
Try to take it to a mechanic that's been repairing vehicles for at least 20 to 30 years though there are diesel specialist shops
It could be a simple problem such as the fuel pump or the spark plugs or coils or it could just be plain like needs a new battery
It could be even a snapped wire somewhere / anyway get the problem attended to by a expert professional as soon as possible
I suppose you could leave it with the Toyota Australia workshop / you might get lucky if they keep looking over the vehicle might get lucky and find the problem then finally can get the vehicle repaired and get back to happy and safe travels

I'm considering buying a 2010 / 2009 Toyota hilux workmate 2.7 l
Are there any problems I should be aware of or watch out for?
2 answers
Yeah, terrible fuel consumption. Consider the 4.0 as they seem to use the same or less fuel.
Everything else is okay on almost all Luxes.
Hi 2.7. My biggest issue is fuel consumption, never had less than 9.9L/100km. I think 5th gear (manual) could've been made a bit higher to help in that area. (The work hilux is a 2010 auto and that gets 1L /100km worse than mine.) Everything else is minor: squeaky clutch, one crack in driver's seat vinyl, clock falls into dash if pushed too hard, and the dome light often doesn't work, despite fiddling with it. I do all my own servicing and I give it 10/10 for reliability. Hope this helps.

Would a Hilux 2,7ltr dual cab automatic with 30000 klms have a better resale value than the same car with a 4.0 ltr motor
4 answers
No. The 4.0 new costs many thousands of dollars more to buy, therefore it must still cost more second hand if we are talking about same car just different size motor. Plus who wouldn't want a 4.0 litre. Only the ones that cannot afford the extra thousands go for the smaller motor. Between a 2.7 and 4.0 is around $2-3 extra per av driving tank. The larger motor cruises up the hill while the smaller motor you have the pedal flat to the floor sucking up that fuel.
Thanks Jeff
What you have written verifies what I had in my mind, I have been looking for a hilux dual cab automatic with alloy tray if I can find a good one. One dealer keeps telling me the exact opposite to what you have written and my way of thinking., mainly because he buys low ks 2.7s from the auctions cheap, and he almost had me convinced that this 2.7 was the way to go. I'm glad that I did not buy one.
Thanks again
Bob
Take into account that the 2.7 actually uses MORE fuel than the V6 4litre!
Ive driven both for work and the 2.7 returned an average of10.2l/100km and the V6 9.6l/100km. Both had similar loads in the back (Around 200kgs), Both dual cabs with canopies and ladders on the roof. And the V6 is WAAAAY more fun to drive than the 2.7. Especially with the SR5 as its got the LSD :)
