Toyota Prado or massage machine
Just bought a 2015 Prado and will take in after 350 kilometers ( yes kilometers).
Have been in the motor trade for 54 yrs and have never driven a worse car. I should have test driven but instead trusted Toyota brand ( never again). The vibration in the car between 1500 to 2000 rpm is non stop . I find myself trying to drive the car outside that range and as a result the auto does not have a clue what gear to be in. Car will be taken to Toyota for rectification. After reading all the complaints about this problem I can't understand why nobody has taken a stand against Toyota. As I have to disclose personal and accurate information the why do Toyota not disclose this problem.
Nissan or Mitsubishi look good

2014 150 series GXL3 Litre diesel Prado - bad news
There is a vibration, and humming in the cab between 1500 rpm - 2000 rpm, The GX does not have it, but it looks like all GXL have. You cannot turn the lights off. The inverter is useless. The towbar is like my old HR Holden - not hidden - have to get non genuine. No alloy winch bar - also non genuine. There is no 12 volt plug in the back. No 12 volt in dash. Sun glasses holder is useless, you have to stop the car to get it. The GXL badge does not exist, must have cost them another $5.00 for that. If you have a 2007 model, keep it, if you buy th...Read more
is, you are going backwards. If you end up buying one, don't get the two front side windows tinted, the dealer told me mine are green because they used recycled glass on those two windows, so if you tint it legal, it looks green, so get it tinted after, and go dark, and it should be ok. 26/11/14 Just thought I would give an update on the vibration issue, Toyota rang me on Tuesday to inform me that this issue, historically applies to this model. But I explained to them that my brother has the March 2014 GX model, and this one does not have the humming and vibration in the cabin. They didn't want to know, and kept repeating the same line. I told them this is not the end of it, I have made a complaint to fair trading, so far. Be warned when you go for a test drive, and you do 60 km/hr, you don't hear it, it comes in around 70 to 90km in that rev range, so you are unaware of the issue till you buy it, then they want to wash their hands of you. Just for your information - Toyota has agreed there is an inherent problem with the GXL, and by the way I do own it unfortunately, I traded a 2007 Prado in for this, that one I'd give 4 stars. 18/12/14 Fair trading has driven the car and also says it is not acceptable, since he has driven two others and they all have a similar problem, but not as bad as mine. Toyota has admitted there is a problem but are unwilling to do anything about it - repeating that, that's how the car is. Yet the cheaper version the GX does not have that problem. They refused to compare the two as the are saying it is a GX not a GXL, this car is my fourth new car from Toyota, if this is how they treat their good customers, how would they treat their bad one's. This is not over, but as far as buying a new car from them, maybe buying a Great Wall - a quarter of the price, may be a better deal, if that is rubbish, you can buy, three more. 12/3/15 Through this review two other people have contacted me about the same vibration drone in their Prado's. Both are getting the run around with Toyota. One of them has so much vibration, he can't see number plates in his revision mirror. I have asked them to write a review about this rubbish car, both of them want to get rid of their cars, I hope to read their reviews. 12/4/15 I went into Toyota the other day, strangely enough, I asked them about the problem with the lights that don't turn off (even know on the control, it says off). The police are complaining too, they cannot go into stealth mode, and have asked Toyota to sort it out, nothing yet. Still no movement on the drone issue, at least the bloke from WA had the dealer trying to fix his. I bought mine from Campbelltown Toyota, in case anybody is interested. 5/8/15 Toyota at Narellan had ago at fixing the drone. it has made a difference by insulating the guard. However not much has changed. They did it at their own cost, not Toyota who have turned their backs on new car buyers. Many thanks for them having a go at it, they had it for a week. Toyota are now advertising on your Facebook, I am informing people before they buy on their comments area.

Perfect choice for a 7 seater with 4WD capabilities and Towing
My requirement was a decent 7 seater vehicle with 4 wheel capabilities and decently economical. I found Prado GXL to be a good choice.
- It looks good
- Very economical does 9.2 to 9.5 in city (I don't try to race, since its a diesel you need to give a bit of time for the engine to pickup, plus i try to keep the RPM under 2, if you drive patently Prado can be very economical)
- 3 raw of seats is comfortable enough (specially for kids, did few long trips and no dramas)
- 4Wd capabilities are great
- Resell value is good
- Good practical vehicle when it comes to towing and carrying a reasonable load
- Good enough space
- Love the extra fuel container useful when doing loan trips

Good but underpowered
2012 150 Series Diesel. Great truck but needs more power. Long range fuel tanks ideal for towing. Nearly'( bought a Jeep) Grand Cherokee but glad I didn't. The Jeep 3.0 diesel had heaps more power but has reliability issues and many negative reviews also inferior resale compared to the Prado. Noticed a lot of Jeeps on the market as soon as the warranty is up and no fixed price servicing. I wanted a truck that I could use to travel Oz with confidence and the Prado has served me well so far. Can't afford to change vehicles every 3 years so went with the Toyota. Not one warranty issue with the vehicle after 58000 kms which includes 20000 kms towing 2.5 tonne Van. Very Happy..

Nice car but very annoying
My father has one of these 2011 Diesel auto. I drive it quite regularly. Firstly it is very comfortable to drive. He has an 80 series Land cruiser prior and wanted an auto transmission so he bought a new Prado.
The car seems to beep at you for all sorts of reasons and the stupid economy light is a joke. The auto transmission set up doesn't impress me as at 80 Km/H there is a slight vibration because the engine is going about 1600RPM but the car is very happy at 100Km/H. I find the auto is very sluggish between changes and even my sister who h...Read more

Disappointed
This vehicle was purchased to replace our 120 series which was great not knowing how disappointed I would be driving it. The drone/vibration between 1300-1600 rpm is terrible and very annoying. Toyota driver since my very 1st car but not sure after owning this one. I certainly will not be purchasing another new vehicle from Toyota ever again.
We live approximately 20km from the centre of town and the majority of the speed limit into town is 80km/hr which is where vibration is at it's worst. Vibration through rear vision mirror at certain spe...Read more
eds is enough to distort vision and make reading number plates of following vehicles unreadable. I have been back to our local dealership numerous times but there is no fix. According to Toyota it's an Inherent fault of the vehicle. Unsure what to do now as Toyota is not willing to rectify problem and why should they as this is one of their most popular selling vehicles. They don't care that a few people complain it's obviously not affecting sales. With 20000km and just 12 months old my review is probably a bit late but I wanted to give Toyota the chance to redeem themselves. I've spoken with Toyota customer experience and they followed up on my complaint but since there is no fix and it affects all vehicles in this series that's the end of the line. Local dealership has been very helpful in trying to rectify and problem is in no way a reflection of their service. Come on Toyota I know you can make better products than this......Similar opinion? Still Going Strong After 5 Years of Outback Touring
I purchased one of the first 150 series GXL diesel auto Prados new in Feb 2010. It has now completed about 120,000Km trouble free all over Australia, much of it towing our 1700Kg pop top caravan. Over several caravan trips of up to 23,000km we generally average around 13l/100Km or a bit less.
We have been to several remote areas, crawled over rocks, driven along beaches, through creeks and rivers and never got stuck. I’ve had it ‘bogged’ up to steps in river sand and still driven out by going back and forth. I wouldn’t hesitate to tackle...Read more
outback and remote areas in this car again. The only issues were in the early days when we needed a software update to fix the auto shift hesitation when pulling out of roundabouts and to stop the auto temperature warning light coming on prematurely. Toyota also provided extended rear mudflaps free of charge due to complaints of gravel rash on the panels behind the rear wheels. After 5 years the only things replaced have been tyres and filters as per the service schedule. We are still on the original battery. A Prado may not be the best town car due to suspension and steering setup but it shines on the outback roads, soaking up corrugations, dips and bumps with ease. We find it comfortable and reasonably quiet. The long range fuel tanks are also a winner.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
