Looking at purchasing a second hand Tarago. Would prefer the V6 for the power. Can anyone tell me if the 4 cylinder had any grunge?

Antony, I have a four cylinder GTI. Have had 8 adults in it with luggage. It has ample power and is quick off the mark as well (especially with only one or two people. Travels well at speed and on the metro streets. Mine is 2006 model auto. Best car I have ever owned. A wonderful family car which drives better than most cars on the road. Will

Where exactly is the fuel filter in a Toyota Tarago ACR30 (2005 model)? Does one have to remove the carpets to access it? Is it behind the driver's seat or the passenger seat?

I found on my 96 model that the fuel pump and filter are in the fuel tank and the tank needs to be removed to access either one.

Actually we finally discovered, that in the Toyota Tarago ACR30 (2005 model) the fuel filter is behind the passenger seat under the carpet. One has to remove the seat the passenger seat, lift up the carpet, remove the cover that is above the filter, and then access the filter. Ridiculous but true!!

Looking at buying a 2004 Tarago with 224K on the clock. Are there issues to be aware of with this number of K's like transmission etc? Asking $8,900 fair deal? Appreciate input from other Tarago people..

In an older, high Kms, vehicle, price is all about condition and what you are prepared to compromise on. Does a minor dint or tear in seat matter? Does it have good service history? How much are you prepared to spent on foreseen and unforeseen repairs? That price is in the range is all I could say.
I am now just owning my 3rd Tarago a 2008 ACR50 after owning a 1990 TCR10 and then a 2001 ACR30. Each was was purchased at around 200k km and the first 2 driven for around 100k km before selling a still respectable vehicle.
Tips: Never cheat on the basics #1 Look after the cooling system. Keep up the good quality coolant. I changed the radiator in each (twice on the TCR10 as it seemed to block up quickly then not cope with very hot Perth days) #2 Look after the oil. Keep it topped up, Change it & Filter regularly. The ACR30 apparently can get sludge buildup in the sump which blocks the mesh oil pickup. Makes a shocking noise, surges at the lights your heart sinks as you think the engine is dead, as it almost is. A good mechanic sorted it out and 60k km later no more problems. The ACR50 has the same engine ??.

Gregs answer is 'spot on'. The only thing I'll add is that parts can be expensive, especially if you buy genuine. My Tarago is a 2006 modle with 130k on the clock. Always serviced and drives better than most cars I have ever owned.

We own a 2007 tarago glx, 270,000klm on the clock.
We have owned it for a number of years and it has been great.
However the engine has just blown up.
Not sure weather it is worth putting another engine in it?
Is the more issues that I could expect with this number of klm?

Sorry I'm not a mechanic. Can't say anything about whether it's worth the cost or effort. But I read somewhere that 300,000km is considered as a car lifetime in which by that time normally will have a major engine rebuild and transmission overhaul. But again some drivers cover 100,000km a year so they could reach 700,000 in 7 years and car can be fine as usually highway knw are easier on a car engine compared to 30,000 km/yr of start stop traffic

You can try ring around wrecker to see if there's an engine from similar car. Get an idea of cost then it's up to you whether you think it's worth it or not compare to a newer model (assume you happy to buy used)?

Hi, for a second-hand engine need to bear in mind its no guarantee that it has no other issue about the engine, therefore, be caution upon spending more if the replaced engine needs to do adjustment mechanically.

Sometimes need to understand engine matters and maintain them as what Ryan propose in the blog

But all in all its a pleasure driving the car with families with you.

Just want to confirm about the child anchor points. Just bought a 2007 Toyota Tarago GLX. The dealer told me that the van is comes with 4 child anchor points already. Is this right?

No it only has three in the 8 seat and 2 in the 7 seat. They are behind the middle row seats on the back of the chair. The ones in the back row are tie down points for a load not baby seat anchors

No incorrect the only way to get them in the third row is with a on extra bar put in.

The ones with pilot style second row seat only have two anchor points. Don't know about the lower spec with bench second row, could be three but i can't say for sure

HI there. Sorry for late comment. When we found out we were pregnant with our 4th child it was time to get a tarago. We shopped around (carnival, imax or tarago) & in the end purchased a 2009 GLX 4 cyl. The Tarago only comes with 3 child anchor points in the middle row which is nuts! Basically, if you fit all 3 child seats across, the back row is not accessible as you cant get pull the seat forward due to the seat belts that are used to keep the child seat in place. We ended up getting 2 additional 2 additional anchor points put in to the rear, however, we have a real issue with 2 car seats next to each other (ie on the 60 side of the 60/40 split in the middle) as you need access to the back row for the other 2 kids. Our oldest just turned 5 & all 4 are in child seats. It ain't easy !!!! Just to let you know, if you have any crazy ideas to have 5 kids under 6, no car will fit all car seats with easy access. But if you did that, maybe car seats are the least of your problems :)

Can the toyota tarago 2009 accommodate child seats in row 3 if it's a booster seat that does not require an anchor or if additional anchor points are added & certified? Where are the best places to install the anchors for row 3?

Hi, I have three anchors in the middle row, and none in the rear. I have two infa folding, untethered boosters in the rear, and can fit three.

To your model new and better spark plugs, injector cleaner every tankful and if that dont work get a can of start ya [censored word removed] and spray into th air filter inlet best advice is get it to a mechanic for a tuneup and check over lol

Darryl C.
Darryl C.

They tune them self up 1/2 hours up the hi way but u need to get a diagnostic tester to plug in to your computer under front passenger seat good luck, if tune up no good plug in diagnostic tester go straight to problem fix and drive to atomic tune
