Can't fault this cooktop

published

I purchased this cooktop to replace an old coil model. The 70cm size fitted the existing cut out. It has four cooking zones, two small,1 medium and 1 large. I am not a fan of touch controls so I chose knob controls. The heat is instant and very easy to control. There are four indicators at the front to show when each cooking zone is hot. They remain lit up even when turned off, until it has cooled down. This cooktop is very easy to keep clean, a scraper is provided to clean any residue, but is not needed if spills are wiped off while it is still warm. Comes with a 24 month warranty. I purchased from Harvey Norman for $799. I highly recommend this product.

The heat controls on the WHC742BA. Are they continuously variable or do they have click-stop positions? Thanks

We have just purchased a WHC742BA Westinghouse cooktop for our new kitchen. I have recently heard of at least 2 people who have Westinghouse cooktops that say you just cannot simmer or cook on low with them, it's either high or off! Has anyone had any experience with this particular cooktop? Thanks!

I have the WHC742BA . I don't have a problem with simmering, you just have to get used to what setting to use. When using the lower setting, the hotplate comes on red & hot but stays on for a short time, maintaining a simmer. A good rule is start high, reduce to half then down to 2or 1 o'clock on the dial. If you go too low too fast it may go off the simmer. hope this helps.

Thanks - it probably will take some getting used to. I like to put something on low and walk away so i'm hoping i'll be able to do this without too much trouble. I've used a cooktop in a rented house and it drove me crazy as everything burned because it just wouldn't stay on low!!
