I have a new ALT18BS6, it joins the rest of my AEG battery powered fleet. I have L1830R batteries, which work perfectly in all the other AEG products, but they will not insert into the trimmer? They slide in but they stop short (about 1 cm) of locking in, so no connection is made? I tried as much force as I dare, even unreasonable force, but to no avail (and no damage) If I look at the battery slot shape and compare with the other AEG tools, it is a slightly different shape. The trimmer is rated to work with AEG L1830R, what is going wrong?

Trying to work out how to replace the line. Are there written instructions or a video somewhere? The diagrams in the manual are not helpful.

I haven't used my line trimmer for a couple of months but tried today and can't get it to start. The battery is fully charged, it clicks into place as it should but I get zero response when I press the two triggers.
Is there something I'm forgetting to do? Any ideas?
Thanks, Allan

Might be the lubricant you used on the cutting surfaces, eg lanolin based lube dries out over time, effectively gluing the two blades together. Bit of warmth and/or cleaning fluid should do the trick.
Huh? Maybe I'm just dumb but I can't relate your answer to my problem. It is a line trimmer, it doesn't have blades as far as I know. What are the blades you're referring to?
Nah, its me..shouldnt have answered on the run, sorry. I have both the AEG line trimmer and a hedge trimmer which behaves as you described once. Ive not had the zero response problem with the AEG line trimmer.

Has anyone else had the issue when new trimming cord is fitted, it curls up and hits the underside of the guard between the line cutting blade and the head? I can’t seem to stop this and it’s wearing out the cutting guard.

No experience of this problem. If it’s not incorrect loading (?), it might be the line itself. I use commercial quality (Trail Blazer 2.4mm). Works well.

how do i remove the string head from the body of the trimmer.
i want to replace the bump feed head with a single strand head but i'm struggling to remove the old head

Hi John.l haven’t changed mine, but found it better to use with half the string guard removed.
Regards Billy
Rotate the head until the hole in the base of the bumper head lines up with a hole in the housing. Insert the metal rod which should have come with the machine, if not use a large blunt nail. Insert it through both holes and this now locks the head so you can unscrew it - Clockwise!
Do it by hand, or if stuck, dismantle the head to expose the line coil, so you can carefully use a lever on it. It is depicted in the manual, very poorly, but at least you can see the holes i’m referring to. Google up the Youtube on this.

i brought my trimmer from bunnings less than a year ago however i cant find the reciet, im having a problem with the battery not going all the way into the trimmer so it wont lock in, as soon as you try to use it it will cut out, any idea how to fix this issue? otherwise it has been a great item its very powerful

Not having a receipt should not be a problem. They can print a new one if you provide a date of purchase and other info such as id or phone number. After you get a receipt you should not have any issues with a replacement.
I check my bank details to find the date and Bunnings printed me a new receipt

What is the metal rod 4 the instruction don't say anything about it?

what is the steel rod/pin used for????

Its supposed to be used for taking the bump feed head off in order to replace it when the time comes. The problem is that it can not be taken off which is frustrating....
Kat & Sash, as Sash said the rod is to hold the spool in place while you take the bump head off. However contrary to what Sash says, the head can be taken of, albeit with a bit of effort. I'm a big guy and I couldn't take the head odd by hand, however I called upon my trusty Strap Wrench and voila, the head comes free. So a strap wrench may be what you need to get the head off. Cheers.
