I am about to buy a 2008 Audi A4 B8 with 180,000km and also has a reconditioned engine. Just wondering can anyone give me some advice as to if I should go with it or nah or anything to look out for?

I have bought and sold many cars during the past (13 cars in 8 years) and my advice to you is not to buy a car with this condition, regardless of the brand.
If you do or don't know much about cars the easiest way is a "state roads" inspection report . I have found them professional & thorough it's piece of mind for the buyer who is knowledgeable or not.Final decisions on price can be agreed to depending on the outcome of the report.

Hello all,
I am looking at buying my First audi a4 2009 2.0 L manual, Quattro model.
The car looks clean is the second only and only has 66 K on the clock. Would you recommend the buy or does the Quattro have this oil consumption issue ? The value of the car is estimated at 21 k and I'm test driving it today.
Any help would be great? thanks

Go read of numerous forums regarding Audi excessive oil consumption! They even settle on a major class action in America. Here is the link. http://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2014/audi-oil-consumption-lawsuit.shtml. There is no protection in Australia.
This problem covers all A4, A5 & Q5 and being auto/manual or a quattro means nothing. You may get lucky....you may not, but I would be also seriously investigating why a 7 year old car that has only done 66K???

I would personally stay away from any Audi with CVT transmission! I believe the CVT first came out in 2001 in the B6 generation. This transmission has been terribly unreliable since the beginning and there are hundreds of threads covering this. It never cheap to fix with transmission overhaul costing $5000. Audi is a nice car to drive, but it can send you broke. Be warned.

Hi,
I'm looking at buying an 2011 Audi, A4, B8 8K MY11 1.8L with engine code CABA/CDHA.
I've done extensive research and have found the model effected by oil consumption issues is the 2L engine with code CAEB. Is this correct or is the 1.8L effected by oil consumption as well?
Below is an excerpt from the class action in the USA.
Thanks in advance.
Settlement Class Vehicle of Class Vehicle refers to any 2009 model year
Audi A4 vehicle, 2010 model year Audi A4 and A5 vehicle, or 2011 model year
Audi A4, Audi A5, and Audi Q5, originally equipped with a factory-installed 2.0 liter
TFSI longitudinal engine bearing Audi internal engine code CAEB, imported and
distributed by Defendant Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., for sale or lease in the
United States of America or Puerto Rico. (Settlement Agreement § 1.G.)

The 1.8 liter has the same problem. The 1.8 was never sold in America so it wasn't part of the lawsuit. I've got one, it burns 1 liter per 500kms, and the CVT transmission started slipping. Please do NOT buy one.

I am looking at getting a 2008 B8 audi a4. There is a knock in the front steering and was a slight oil leak. Mechanic doing the rwc said it has passed rwc. Should i be worried? I also hear they have oil problems.
2 answers
I would be very worried! (A rwc is not good evidence that the car is mechanically sound. It is easy to make "patch repairs" that will make the car run for small periods).
From my personal experiences, reading online, and talking to other audi owners, will never have another one.
RWC will not cover potential mechanical failures. It is nothing more of a basic check of lights, wipers, tyres, seat belts, etc. Do not take take this as a pass mark! With regards to common failures, it also depend on the engine type. Every Audi have their inherent weakness, be it 4 or 6 cylinder, aspirated or turbo, diesel or petrol. Just search for forums on the internet for your exact vehicle, right down to engine size and type. Also be warned, if you have a part that needs replacement and you can't buy it after market, getting genuine parts from Audi is ridiculously expensive. So for what you mentioned, the minor oil leak is generally fixable, but the forum will warn you otherwise. However the knock in the steering would be a great concern already.

Hi Guys,
I am looking to buy a 2009 MY10 Model Audi A4 2.0T Quatrro or a 2010 Lexus IS250. I am quite concerned with engine oil consumption as I've read reviews that it is a big problem. I've contacted the owner and he did said that having to add engine oil every 3000-4000KM. My main concern is the reliability of the car and engine will eventually fail from too much carbon deposit etc. Can someone tell me about the experience with the 2.0T engine?

Mine is 2013 T2.0. Sure in the first year, I encountered the oil consumption problem. But after the first service, they changed a different oil, and I don't have that problem ever since.
Mine has burnt a litre like a clock between services - no interservice topup necessary. 3-4K sounds a bit much unless he's just finicky at keeping it at the max. level.
Be careful. We purchased an A4 quattro S-Line not even 6 months ago, and now we can't even drive the car. The car needs an engine rebuild - it uses 1 litre of oil and only gets 350kms. We are fighting it out with the dealer. If you can, get an oil compression test done before purchasing the vehicle.
