Seriously, what has happened to Audi. Talk about running away from your failings.
Here I was thinking Audi vehicles were built with performance and reliable as their pillars. I was so wrong. My Audi A4 TDI with 150k on the clock recently developed the dreaded "FLASHING PRNDS". That simply means the gearbox selection shown on the dash has a red flashing bar over the top. Personally never heard of it so I typed it into the internet and up comes hundreds of threads about it! Clearly this is a big problem all around the world for Audi vehicles. Seems more common for B6 & B7 models as they have multitronic transmission (CVT). The...Read more
common fault is that the Transmission Control Modules (TCM) develops an electrical cliche. Therefore the computer cannot determine which gear the car is in. The car appears drives normally at first, but if left untreated the main consensus is the fault worsens until gears drop out, cannot be selected (i.e. reverse) or the car goes into 'limp' mode. No one wants to risk a roadside breakdown. So I went to my Audi Centre and they pretended they never heard of this fault. Hmmm. They did a diagnostic scan and confirmed error code 17090 Transmission Range Sensor (F125) Implausible Signal. They then quoted $5300 for repairs!! Strangely they then offered me the name of another repairer who fixed these TCM, but hang on, I thought they didn't know of this problem. I eventually found my own repairer who did the job for $1250. How did Audi get away without a recall on these vehicles is beyond me? But never ever buy a second hand Audi B6 or B7 otherwise you will run the gauntlet of above. If you have one, seriously think about disposing of it now! Shame Audi shame.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Great but 2.0l tfsi terrible reliability
This 2.0l tfsi petrol engine will need a rebuild, the pistons were designed wrong an as a result they use huge amounts of oil, only fix is full rebuild, mine needed one after 150000 ks they all have this issue until the 2012 model came out, in America they were recalled an rebuilt, not in Australia.

Feeling like a hostage to Audi
I am looking to changeover to a Q5 as my A4, just over 3 years old is back in the Alto Group garage! After servicing my car recently ( $2000 including two new tyres) it started blowing smoke and stalling in reverse turned out it needed 4 new fuel injectors ($3000) two weeks later after all diagnostics showed the car was clear of any further problems it's doing the same thing again. Alto service are hostile and defensive and can't put it on the diagnostics for a few days. I am a hostage and feel the only way out is to buy a new car from the upst...Read more

Lovely car -Hate the way it drives!
We purchased this car as a demonstrator in November 2013. It is a beautiful car, has MMI - multi media interface which allows you to control everything throughout the car - does not have memory seats which is disappointing. It has GPS, Sports mode, Sun roof and drives beautifully on long runs and is very economical, travelling from Melbourne to Adelaide on 3/4 a tank, BUT - I absolutely hate the Multi-tronic transmission. This car has a lag period from when you push your foot on the accelerator to when the clutch engages. I have had the car c...Read more
hecked over and over and they said there is nothing wrong with it. It is so dangerous on the road when you are at an intersection or at a roundabout and need to take off when there is a gap in the traffic - we have had numerous close calls as it behaves randomly all the time and you cannot trust it to take off when you want it to. You want to go and put your foot down, nothing happens, there's a delay and then it takes off. In a panic you press harder as the car does not respond and then it bunny hops or does a wheelie as it takes off. On a hill it rolls backwards like you are riding the clutch before you take off. It also rolls forward or backwards when it is in reverse gear on an inclined surface or unlevel surface. before the the transmission engages. So scary, we have almost rolled into a few cars when we had parked in a tight parking spot - just horrible. Can't believe this is what they call superior European engineering. My husband absolutely hates it. You can't relax at all while driving. Even after speaking with Audi Penfold Burwood about all the problems we are experiencing (which they were more than happy to check out) there was no offer made when I said we want to change the car because of all the problems. This has to be a fault that is not being picked up. Our computer system has been re-set several times and the lag time changes after each time, sometimes it is much better but not still not good and sometimes back to being horrible. When the engine is cold all of these faults are more obvious. Can't believe we are driving a luxury lemon and no one is speaking up,Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great car - terrible transmission
I have a 2014 Audi A4 Avant 1.8T with the CVT transmission, purchased as a demonstrator in March 2014 with 4000km on the clock and has now done just over 30,000 km.
This is my 7th Audi over 20 years - so I am very keen on the brand, especially the build quality and safety - but I absolutely hate the CVT transmission in this car. The transmission lags on takeoff - particularly on hills, where it does a very good impression of 'riding the clutch' on a manual transmission, and the car rolls backwards before the transmission engages (it nearly ...Read more
caused me to go through my (closed) garage door first time I parked in my driveway). I have checked with Audi service and they tell me it's performance is 'normal' for the CVT transmission - but it's not like any other car I have driven and I definitely won't have another CVT!! My familiarity with the brand meant I only took a very short test drive before committing to the car - I will try longer next time. Aside from my dislike of the transmission, it's a great car - beautifully built, handles well and very economical on a long trip (will go from Sydney to Gold Coast on a single tank). I still believe Audi is one of the best European cars on the market.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

2013 Quattro 2.0T
After test driving the Mercedes BMW Lexus etc, I decided to purchase this car based on price, equipments and most importantly handling. I love the electrical steer wheel, very light, similar the gas paddle. Tiptronic gear box with dual clutch is smooth and responsive. Little feather like push button engine and park brake are a delight. As a driver, you feel relax, especially stuck in the middle of daily traffic.high recommend.
On the downside, the engine consumer lub fast, and the standard stereo is crap (I upgraded this)

A great car
Have a 1.8T A4 bought new in 2014. Wonderful car to drive and to look at, though I mostly use it for urban driving (work, school pickup/dropoff). The CVT Multitronic transmission is nearly faultless, but with some lag on hard acceleration from stop. Cruises at 100 km/h on 1,500 rpm and huge reserves of power which I never really been able to (legally) tap. Responsive steering, the Pirelli tyres are just beautiful - not looking forward to when they wear out as will be expensive to replace and may be forced on to a lesser tyre. Ride is a bit stif...Read more
f as you'd expect. My Audi dealer (Newstead in Brisbane) is excellent for sales and service. Great sound system and instrumentation. Faults, hmm, no auto-dimming rear-view mirror and the boot is a bit on the small side. It also burns some oil between services, but this is noted in the manual, and I understand normal for Audis and BMWs. Very good driving position and easy to know where all the car corners are for parking, even without using sensors. Takes PULP (95) but also can take ULP (90) if you get caught out, but you'll notice the difference in performance and economy. The overall finish is very good - mine is Black Pearl so it shows the dirt of course but the paint finish is exceptional. Have had one recall for the transmission software which was something about its operation in very low temps - I live in Qld. so can't think it made any difference and was precautionary. Overall, I can't imagine ever not buying another Audi, whether an A4 or something like a Q5. Highly recommended.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Extremely reliable car
I bought my Audi A4 1.8T 2005 with 115,000 on the clock and it has been the best purchase I have ever made. I have not had a single problem with it except for minor and general maintenance. The car now has 265,000 on the clock and it still runs extremely well. I know the car will be able to make it to 300,000+ k's if I keep servicing it regularly. For this reason, when it comes time to buy a new car, I will buy another Audi.

What a disappointment, the most unreliable car I've ever owned.
Having owned a lot of Japanese sports cars, and one mercedes benz, was quite happy to find my 2004 audi a4 avant turbo quattro for a good price. But only after purchasing did I discover the wonderful world of "oil sludge" affecting the Audi 1.8 turbo engine. Had the car off the road for 6 weeks until it was fixed by an independent audi specialist in Oakleigh who are fantastic!
A very comfortable luxury daily driver, beautiful interior design still better than most cars 6 years later. Lots of load space in the wagon, and 4WD for snow trips. G...Read more
reat car overall - but get it serviced by a specialist! Update -after 9 terrible months of Audi ownership I got rid of that car to the first person to offer me anything for it. Buy an Audi and expect the glovebox to break (and rather than a 60c hinge part, you're offered a $600 entire replacement, what a joke!). Coil packs expire leaving you running on 3 or 2 cylinders. Window regulators break, leaving your windows down and unable to be wound up, another $600 per side. Aircon compressor goes off, in dash display breaks down etc etc etc. Fortunately, working in medical capital financing means I've been able to steer hundreds of my customers into any other car but an Audi/volkswagen/skoda - and they all thank me for it now the story of volkswagen transmission "reliability" is out in the open. Luxury motoring, bargain price now! European cars need specialist servicing.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Paying A Little Too Much For Luxury?
I've had my car since 2012 & from the cars I had driven before that, nothing spelt "comfort/safety" on the road like this car has. It's a 2001 model A4 2ltr auto. The car itself feels quite solid on the road, yet light and dynamic. It gets you from A-B and still maintains its classic look (that I feel - still has not aged).
Unfortunately however, the cost to upkeep this car (service) and god for bid something goes wrong, I cannot justify it. My issue was, I took it to one mechanic who claimed to be good with Audi's and the problems just went...Read more
from there - to "ignition coils" going three times in one year, to her camshaft sensor blowing up "twice" so many new words I've apparently forgotten, but if there was a problem she didn't have - I don't know of it. It all spiraled from that initial mechanic visit - so I don't like to wholeheartedly blame the Audi - but the dodgy mechanics I managed to end up at. My car drives now, goes in a straight line, doesn't turn off at idle, and doesn't rumble along the road struggling like it did for months... However... After spending over half of what we paid for the car in the first place, on dodgy mechanics, the other day when I found out she no longer reversed... I have quite literally given up. Fearing there is a huge gearbox issue, hasn't entertained me very much. Love the car, cannot speak higher of the car itself - hate what it takes to maintain and wouldn't rate it highly for reliability if it's out of commission. If the car is running, it's a dream, if it's not, it is quite literally a nightmare. Very reliable car
I have recently purchased 2000 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro manual transmission and it is a very reliable, powerful and comfortable car. Been driving it for a while now and never had problems, besides the rear door is not working. Mechanically the car is doing good, didn't have major problems from the previous owner. I bought the car with 170,000km on odometer and EuroClass did a major service to it and many things were replaced, like timing belt, cv joints and so on but it is completely normal for this things to get replaced at this age.

Not good enough
I owned a 2005 A4 B7 from new. I had coil pack problems which Audi fixed under a recall arrangement but at only 85,000km the transmission control unit failed. I now know that Audi chat rooms/blogs are packed with similar experiences. A friend had the same thing happen to his A4 at 75,000km. Audi customer (don't) care told me it would cost $4700 to fix. No way - love my new Lexus IS250!

An unfix-able problem
I bought a 2006 model Audi A4 Avant it had less then 100 000 km on the clock. I bought it from Audi centre Perth it drove well for a year I went for my first service at a time when everything was fine they replaced some parts under warranty after that my engine warning light came up and I went back to the Audi service to try and fix the problem, they fixed it then the next day the light came on again for 10 months I have been back to the Audi service 9 times and the problem hasn't been fixed. My warranty is expiring soon and I will be stuck wi...Read more

Excellent experience all round.
I owned a 2005 Audi A4 Quattro B7 (2.0 litre not 1.8) with the Tiptronic auto. Test drove the BMW 3 series and C-Class and felt this car was the best choice for me, as the A4 is in-between the 3 series and 5 series in size and offered a more sporty feel thanks to the turbo power delivery and all wheel drive grip.
Great steering feel (always felt solid and safe), suspension was tight, silent and a near perfect set up between comfort and performance. I believe this is only the Quattro suspension though and cannot comment on the regular A4s.

Not a bad car but costly to repair
We bought a 2007 1.8 turbo S-line second hand from a dealer with 40,000 on the clock. Within 2 months the transmission failed and it needed to be towed to get fixed. Apparently something went wrong with computer and it was fixed under warranty. We then had another problem when the coil pack needed replacing ($500). Also had to replace the front discs and braked pads and our car has done less than 70,000kms ($600). These repairs were not done at Audi as they are biggest crooks when it comes to service or repairs.
The car is very smooth to drive...Read more

Shocking reliability, almost need a second loan to fix it after warranty, avoid like the plague!
We had this car since 2006 and in the first year after warranty expired the car had been taken to dealership for repair at least 6 times! The repair bill was way over $5,000 and the car was only worth about $15,000 if you are lucky.
Most issues are associated with the brilliantly unreliable CVT transmission box. We had a trip to the snowy mountains and the transmission gave up just past Jindabyne. Audi simply "reset" the computer to "fix" the problem and did nothing else. A few months later after a regular service the car started to jolt whi...Read more
le accelerating or coming to a stop. I was told there is something wrong with the clutch pack in the transmission and Audi can't fix it but to replace it. I was quoted $10k to get a refurbished unit fitted or $20 to get a new one plus labour. Apparently I couldn't even get a new one in time as there are too many dying Audis waiting for this part. Finally gave up, traded it in and got a Lexus. Shame on you Audi! Nicely put together, interior quality Terrible reliability even in the first five years of its lifeSimilar opinion? A great car, our 97 model 1.8 non turbo is pushing over 300,000 is still going great. Feels like a much newer car. Have had few problems but air conditioner is an expensive repair and cam belt is over $900. Would look at another one if ours ever stops!

A bit slow, quite expensive to service

Bad
I would have loved to buy another Audi but was so disappointed in the mechanicals that it turned me off Audis, VW and Skodas as they use the same motors. Do not buy a CVT as it will fail (this is why there are so many on the market at around the 70-100,000km mark). If you DO want one, listen for 'clunks' in the gearbox, hesitation to engage drive or reverse. Also check the service manual - if these CVTs do not have the fluid changed at the appropriate intervals, it shortens their life even more. GOOD LUCK!
Build quality very very high. The look...Read more

Terrible
Audi is a great manufacturer and even after an issue with our A4s CVT gearbox, we went straight back to Audi for our next car (an A3) but this time for a manual. The CVT is rubbish and I read on the web that the newer DSG is just as bad. The issue is they break mechanically and/or te computer. Ours started playing up due to a computer issue where the computer could not work out what geat the lever was in so assumed we were in neutral. Thankfully this was never an issue while driving, only when reversing but the dealer said other customer had ha...Read more
d issues when driving (the car suddenlt deciding it needed to be in neutral). Its apparently a common issue so strongly recommend you avoid the CVT/DSG and get a manual or buy a BMW if you want an auto. The cost we were quoted by te dealer for a new computer, $3500 and apparently a mechanical issue is even more. We did some research and foumnd lots of comments online to the same effect and apparently there has been some recalls in the US Dont get me wrong, love the audi with the exception of the auto boxes, the manual is a delifght to drive and could not find one negative comment online about it. Rating 1/5 for the CVT and 5/5 for price, quality, etc. Overall 1/5 just because of the CVT Ride, build quality, instrumentation, fuel economy, breaks and steering CVT gearbox is rubish from standing start and breaks + very expensive to fixSimilar opinion? Audi Australia have been paying for a proportion of the cost to rebuild these engines, contact Audi Australia directly before getting the work done and they may help out, they are reluctant though.
