Why is the 8 and 10 tray dehydrators 800 watts, and the 9 tray dehydrator 600 watts? Which is a more economical use of electricity?

BioChef
BioChef ·

Hello Sandra, sorry for the delay. An 800 watt dehydrator costs about 85 cents to run over an 8 hour period. You really only need a minimum of 500 watts to dehydrate, so obviously the higher the wattage the faster the drying but also the running cost would differ also. Here is a link on our website, its really informative. If there is anything else please let me know. https://www.vitality4life.com.au/blog/product-reviews/food-dehydrator-reviews/10-reasons-to-buy-a-food-dehydrator/ Warmest Regards Vitality4Life.

Hi, I just received my BioChef Arizona 9 Tray Food Dehydrator and read the manual and saw that beef jerky is cooked for 2 hours fast time.. my concern was most forums note jerky needs to be cooked for 10 -20 hours. Is this 2 hours fast time correct? and if so how do I select fast time? Thank in advance. Once I use this I will do a review of this product.

BioChef
BioChef ·

Hi Rachel,
Jerky is definitely only safe to dry between 62-65 degrees for 7-8 hours or longer if necessary. If you would like to contact us on [email protected] I can send you an updated manual. Warmest Regards V4L

Hi. Just purchased the Arizona sol 6 tray and so far the first batch of goodies has turned out great! But, in the manual next to each food type it has a column for fast time, and regular time. What is fast time? Is that a special button somewhere? Can't find any reference to it. Thanks

Hi Greg, yes we are aware of this discrepancy, if you would like to contact us at [email protected] we can send you an updated manual. Sorry for the inconvenience. Warmest Regards V4L

Hi I just bought my Arizona SOL dehydrator today. When I read the manual, it said I cant use extension cord for this product. However the only possible place must use an extension cord, is there any reason why extension cord cant be used? Selina

BioChef
BioChef ·

Hi Selina, thanks for your question. You will find that most instruction manuals for appliances will come with a caution to say not to use an extension cord. This is a manufacturer safety precaution which we pass on to our customers. A dehydrator is very low in wattage and power consumption which should not cause any strain on a safe extension cord. HI I have just purchased your Arizona 6. Could you tell me what the drip tray looks like please. I have a thin plastic insert, is that the drop tray?

BioChef

Hi there, yes the drip tray is the plastic insert. This can also be used as another non-stick tray to make fruit roll up too. I hope you are enjoying dehydrating. Kindest, Michelle | Vitality 4 Life

How much power do they use at say 24c per kwh.

BioChef
BioChef ·

Hi George, great question. I have copied some information for you about the running costs of our dehydrators. If you would like to ask anymore questions you can contact us directly at [email protected]

You will be glad to know that it is surprisingly efficient to run a dehydrator.
To calculate the cost of running your dehydrator you can use the following calculation ;

Step 1 : ( Wattage x Hours of average use for 1 drying session ) / 1000 = Kilowatts Per Hour
Step 2 : Kilowatts Per Hour x Your own Kilowatt charge with your Energy company.

As an example below we have calculated using average Australian Kilowatt charge and an 8 hour drying session as examples.

BioChef 6 Tray Arizona
Wattage = 420w x 8 hours) / 1000 = 3.36 kWh
3.36 kWh x 0.25 cents per Kilowatt = Total Cost 84 Cents for 8 Hours of Drying.

As you can see, the BioChef Arizona Dehydrator is a very cost effective way to dehydrate food items over a long period of time.

If you have any further questions about the BioChef Arizona Dehydrator range or I can assist further please let me know.

Our support team are also available on our toll free 1800 802 924 number Monday – Friday 9am-5pm if you would prefer to speak to us direct,

As with the previous enquiry, there is no mention of how to use the mesh mat and non-stick parchment in the manual. For those like me who are completely new to the world of dehydrating some instructions would be much appreciated. Thank you.

BioChef
BioChef ·

Dear Poppy thanks for your feed back, and good point, we will try and add some info on using the dehydrator sheets on our website or manuals. The mesh sheets are perfect for drying items like nuts and seeds or chunkier and dryer items that need a more circular air flow that wont fall through the holes. The non-stick sheets are perfect for making flat breads and fruit leathers, items that have a high moisture content which might seep through the holes. If there are any more questions please do not hesitate to contact us here anytime at head office on 1800 802 924 All the best the Vitality4life team.

Hi I received my biochef arizona yesterday and have already used it with great results. However it came with 2 different non-stick mats and there is no mention of these or how they should be used, in the instruction manual. Could I use the flat mats for dehydrating bananas, as these were a bit tricky to remove from the racks and were slightly stuck? I would like to know whether their use may prolong the dehydration times due to effects on air circulation etc. Thanks Daniela

Deborah
Deborah ·

I have been using the mats for fruit leathers and they wipe clean easily. I have also dehydrated butter chicken and Chana masala and they clean well. On the trays I have mainly done apple, pear, lemon and other fruits and they cleaned easier that my old dehydrator. I was thinking of doing some eggplant in miso and tamari soon, that will be a test because it was always hard to clean that off the trays. I really like this dehydrator and the cost is really good compared to some others on the market. I don’t know about extra warranty, I never purchase one for any product.

Graeme
Graeme ·

The product is very easy to clean, so far only done beef jerky, around 4 loads of all 6 trays each time. Love this product. No extra warranty bought with mine.

BioChef
BioChef ·

Hi Evelyn, thank you for query. This product is very easy to clean with the removable door and drip tray that is included with your purchase. As Deborah mentioned above, the non stick sheets can be wiped down and cleaned very easily, and the trays are all made of stainless steel for strength and durability. Unfortunately you are unable to purchase a longer warranty, however this particular model does come with a 3 year manufacturing warranty included which I think you should find is ample. Please don't hesitate to contact us direct for any further queries you should have by emailing [email protected] or by calling us on 1800 802 924 Mon-Fri 9-5pm AEST. Regards, Sarah | Vitality 4 Life

Hi there I’d really like to know the difference between the bio chef Arizona to the savana as for the 9 tray almost double the price? Cheees Lindz

BioChef
BioChef ·

Hi Lindz, thank you for your question regarding the Biochef food dehydrator's. Both dehydrators are excellent options, and come with a 3 year manufacturing warranty for piece of mind. There are a few differences in the specifics of each unit. I have added below a link that details the differences in a comparison table for you to have a look over. Basically I would say the main difference and reason for the pricing is the power of the unit. You will note via the table that the Savana has a digital 99hr timer and operates at 1000 watts, in comparison to the Arizona which has a digital 19.5hr timer and operates at 420-500 watts. The Arizona is a new and improved model and as such has considered features like the removable door and the digital display at the front of the unit for ease of use. It is worth considering what the best machine would be for your desired usage. Things to consider could be how often you will be dehydrating, what types of foods you want to make, if you have any sizing limitations etc. Please don't hesitate to contact us on 1800 802 924 Mon- Fri AEST if you would prefer to speak to us directly.

Hi, I have just bought the Arizona Sol 9 tray dehydrator and it's working well. I am new to food dehydrating. I notice that the digital temperature guage goes up/down in increments of 5. Some of the recipes I want to use have temps of 47/48 deg and I am a bit worried that my results will be unsatisfactory if I need to juggle up or down and increase or decrease timings to adjust. Is there a way to change the incremental settings to single increments? Thank you. Kate

Kate Bamford
Kate Bamford ·

Hi Kate
Goodness, that is very specific temperatures!! I don’t know how to change the settings I’m afraid. If I was cooking your recipe, I’d round it up or down to the nearest increment of 5 degrees. Maybe drop the supplier an message?
Happy dehydrating! ❤️

Kate
Kate ·

Thank you. It seems the few deg up or down is not crucial so I don’t need to worry :)

BioChef
BioChef ·

Hi Kate, Unfortunately the adjustable thermostat is only adjustable in increments of 5 degrees. As mentioned above, I would suggest rounding up or down to the nearest degree and hopefully this is adequate for the outcome of your recipes. Please let us know how your dehydrator is going, and if you have any further queries, please don't hesitate to contact us on 1800 802 924. Regards, Sarah | Vitality 4 Life

Can someone please tell me how loud the Arizona 6 tray is? A couple of reviews have mentioned it being loud & a couple have also said it’s quiet. Is the noise comparable with an exhaust fan or something else.
Thank you in advance.

BioChef
BioChef ·

Hi Roz, Thanks for your question. Unfortunately we do not have the rating for the Arizona 6 tray however it has been updated to the BioChef Arizona Sol 6 Tray with a rating of 50-65Db. Both models are considered to be the among the quieter available models on the market. I hope this helps answer your query. Sometimes dehydrators can become noisy if they are not sitting on a flat surface or perhaps there are some shelves touching where they shouldn't be and a quick inspection should resolve this. We do offer a 30 day money back guarantee on all our products so if you would like to try it out there is no obligation involved! If you would like to give us a call on 1800 802 924 Mon-Fri 9-5 AEDT we would be happy to assist with any further queries or alternatively via email at [email protected]. Best Wishes, BioChef and The Vitality 4 Life Team.

Elvira Dammasch
Elvira Dammasch ·

A dehydrator is perfect for the raw food died. Dry food with a temperature up to 45 deg. Celsius. With BioChef Arizona you can adjust the temperature. And to make double sure use a food thermometer so you don't go over the set limit. Let Markus Rothkranz explain it more detailed on YouTube. This might be a help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXOyYkszHZU There are cheap Dehydrators on the market for 40 - 50 dollars which have the heating element on top, Beware! The heat distribution is not evenly. Years ago I bought one of these, I had to throw it out. BioChef is good.
