Based on the great reviews, I bought this. It is much more expensive than other waffle makers and for that money I would expect to be able to vary the temperature at which waffles are cooked. However you can only vary the time. So far all my waffles are coming out either too dark or undercooked. Very disappointed and will go back to my tefal waffle maker having wasted $250.

After some research, I decided on this waffle maker because of all its great reviews, and I forked out the high price to purchase it. It does have some nice features - it is easy to clean, does four at a time, and the waffles are crispy on the outside. But inside they are doughy. I can only describe them as awful. Despite having two dials - one for batter type and one for preferred darkness - the heat/thermostat setting is fixed and cannot be varied. The computer uses both dials just to calculate how long to cook them.

Read moreg the buttermilk, Belgian and classic recipes that came with the waffle maker to the letter, and still they are just wet dough in the centre. Changing the settings doesn't help. I have increased the cooking time til they're burnt on the outside but still the centre is doughy and disgusting. I seem to be in the minority here, everyone else describes them as "fluffy". Any advice would be appreciated. I doubt I can get my $200 back now, but I just want to make edible waffles.after roughly using the waffle iron less then 10 times, we noticed the middle peaks were losing their coating and simply peeling off. we used no such sprays, metal utensils, or other damaging tools (as i work in a kitchen shop i understand how these can ruin cookware) and we only cooked waffles according to the ingredients and recipe's listed in the free e-book. a great machine that just did not last! we even cleaned theh machine to every specification after each use. not impressed
great wafle iron - while it lasted
the coating came off after roughly 5-6 uses
Questions & Answers
Hi, we have been frequently using this waffle maker now for about 2 years and really love it. To experiment further I’d like to know the max temperature the maker generates. Thanks
How can I prevent belgian waffles from burning on the outside and undercooking on the inside? I have had my waffle maker for just over two years and for the bulk of this time the maker worked beautifully. However, for the last few months our belgian waffles are either burnt on the outside or undercooked on the inside. Is there something I can do to fix this? I purchased mine in Canada so not sure where I can send this to to fix it but by now it's certainly out of warranty.
What's the difference between the 620 and 640? Is it just that the 640 makes 4 waffles? Can I make potato waffles with both?
The 620 seems to be discontinued in australia. I love the 640 (which was expensive until my wife found frequent flier points). Not sure what potato waffles are/

Hi Susan - the test kitchen has advised that crispy, thin waffles will not be possible with this deep thick waffle maker. If you're able to return the unit the BWM 520/No Mess Waffle make may be more suitable. Thanks, the Breville team
