HI how to you remove aqua deck oil from brick work.. when applying to the decking have accidentally brushed against the brick wall and would like to know who to remove it from the brick work?

Hi I have a big deck and used Aquadeck about 2 years ago. Definitely needs another application now but half deck is in sun and weathered (ready for new coat) and half deck is under cover and water still beading. Advice please on how to get best result considering vastly different states of wear and readiness ? Will be using Aquadeck - it’s not amazing but decent enough. Thanks

Read moreWhen coating an unevenly worn deck expanse where parts of your existing coating are still sound, you will need to apply the following process - 1. Wet the timber surface expanse down with water. 2. Apply the Cabot's New Timber Prep,followed directly by the Cabot's Deck Clean as per label instructions. Use the versatile Cabot's Deck Prep bristle brush or similar. (No wire brushes) 3. Leave on the timber for 10–15 minutes. Keep timber damp with product the whole time. (Do not let the solution dry over the surface) 4. Rinse off the surface thoroughly using a high pressure water cleaner. (Garden hose on pressure setting or specific pressure washer set on fan pattern only ) Once rinsed clean and dry - Asses the clean dry deck via the water bead test. If the water is absorbed and not beading, you are ready to apply the fresh Aquadeck coating. If you still have some stubborn uneven weathered sections - Simply sand back to a nice even smooth finish going with the timber grain. Then vacuum off the sanding dust and wipe down with a clean damp cloth. Then apply one - two coats of Aquadeck in colour of choice to the exposed weathered sections first and wait till dry. Once dry - Apply one full coat over the entire deck expanse in order to create a nice even coated finish. I want to use new deck prep on my upstairs balcony. Below the balcony is granite tiles. The deck prep will drip through the decking onto the tiles and thereafter when i hose the deck down after 15minutes.
Will this stain the tiles straight away even if I hose the tiles?

Read moreWhen it comes to deck coating, there will always be some level of colour variable once dry, between the first,second and third final coats. This is mainly due to the specific pigment content achieving a slightly higher colour opacity and depth as it gets layered over the previous dry coating. (This will vary depending on colour chosen) This colour difference is far more evident when applying a refresher coat over an older coloured coating that has faded/weathered to some extent. As far as the bubbling result goes, it's a little tricky to assess from this platform site unseen but in general - One of the primary reasons why bubbles are formed in a deck coating is due to a level of moisture in both the wood or the previous coating. Moisture retention can happen over new or old timber decks. Coating bubbles are generally formed in the timber or film pores, when you apply an oil or stain over moist timber. If you are applying an exterior coating in very hot or cold weather, bubbles can also immediately start rising to the surface before the oil or stain coating dries completely. Bubbles can also be formed simply due to applying the oil or stain too fast over the surface via your chosen applicator tool. (Brush or pad applicator) To rectify bubbles over a surface if the coating is still wet - You can simply brush out the bubbles over the surface by gently running a broad soft bristle brush over the area which will smooth them out, being sure to go with the timber grain. If the bubbled surface has dried - It will depend on how large and consistent the bubbles are over the area. You're best to give it a light sanding down with a 120 grit sandpaper pad on extension pole. Then once all is sanded nice and smooth, you hose off the sanding dust and wash down the deck with the Cabot's Deck Clean as per label instructions. Once all is rinsed clean and dry - You can apply the final coat of your Cabot's Aquadeck with deck pad or broad decking brush, in nice even application over 3-4 boards at a time. I recently used Aquadeck, Jarrah, on a new merbau deck that butts up to an older deck. The jarrah is lighter and redder than the older deck. I have alot of the jarrah aquadeck left to use, can i get it tinted darker to better match the older (dark brown) deck?

So the amount you have left in the current can of Aquadeck Jarrah might not result in the exact colour result you are looking to achieve, which may also fall outside the Cabot's guarantee due to being altered from the original specified tint formulation. Please note: You will always get a colour variable finish between a freshly coated deck and an older deck that's been exposed to the weather over a year or more - Even if it was the exact same colour used. As a possible option for you - You can wash/scrub down both deck areas with the Cabot's Deck Clean as per label instructions. Once rinsed off clean and dry - Apply your preferred Aquadeck colour over the lighter of the two decks first. Then once dry, apply the Aquadeck over both the old and new decks in order to achieve more of a uniform colour result. Read moreYou can certainly paint over the current Aquadeck coating but first, you will need to wash/scrub it down with Cabot's Deck Clean in order to reduce its water resistance and then let it dry. It may also require a light even sanding first if you get some timber grain raise and textured surfaces. Once clean and dry, you can then choose to apply the water based Cabot's Deck & Exterior Stain in a lighter colour of choice by two coats. Alternatively, you can apply one coat of the Dulux 1Step Prep Water Based Primer, Sealer & Undercoat and then when that's dry, apply the Dulux Aquanamel in colour of choice by two coats, to finish. Either way, just be sure to test the colour options via a few small sample pots first, just to make sure you're happy before committing to the items. You can do this by applying the colour samples over a small section of the outdoor setting by two coats, to then view the true colour finish. Hi iv had some merbau steps built and let it weather for 8 wks. Yesterday I saw i needed to sand over a few screw holes which I did, which made the wood around it a bit lighter. Iv bought aquadeck jarrah tint water based oil. Will that cover up the small bits of sanded wood and color look even when I completely oil steps ?

That's a bit of an oxymoron isn't it? water and oil does not mix so can you define oil please.

Just like the more traditional penetrating solvent based Cabot's Natural Decking Oil - The Cabot's Aquadeck water-based oil is more of a lightly pigmented product that achieves a semi-transparent finish more so, rather than an a more opaque stain finish as such. The oil binder component is simply the vehicle in which a volume of pigment is suspended within to deliver the protective pigment volume, over a clean surface which eventually dries to leave behind a very durable, protective skin coating by three coats. There are very specific compounds applied to the water based Aquadeck formulation which are pigments (colour) an oil binder (usually modified mineral oil) and an all important additive used in the manufacturing process, that acts as an emulsifier to stabilise the emulsions by preventing or slowing the water and oil from separating. So hence the wonders of modern day protective coating technologies which allows for water based oil coatings to be a highly durable user friendly alternative. Hi, I installed a Merbau deck some six months ago and I am concerned that the deck has begun turning black when the decking gets wet . My only solution to my problem is to use a thicknesseser on the decking to cut of the Aquadeck membrane off then i will use the oil (real oil) to reseal the wood i had the reed / groove side up ...

I have previously use Aquadeck on our deck with great results initially when we built the deck and then recoated at least twice since. However I have just cleaned and recoated out deck with the same Aquadeck products and applied three coats and the deck surface has remained sticky. Is there anything that I can do to reduce the stickiness? Note the deck is in full sun....

I put acquadeck oil (natural) on my deck over the last 3 years. The “natural” colour is quite dark and the finish very disappointing
Mark’s show easily and the finish is just dead flat.
Can I put acquadeck clear Matt or gloss sealer to give a decent finish after applying the acquadeck oil?

Good morning. Gee. I wish I could help. I have no idea - but guess if you’re to put a water base over an oil there may be rejection issues. So recommend calling cabots and taking with them !

Read morearities. I have found the deck looks very raw when coated but over time the pigment settles or fades and irregularities blend. On my deck there is a colour change when it is soaked and the dry areas remain darker. But within a few hours of sun it’s a single tone. If the rain HAS washed unset coating off you will see and know whether to start over. Hope this helps
