The deck had weathered for about 4 weeks prior to that. We have had no furniture etc on the deck to make sure enough time to cure.
We carefully moved our outdoor furniture back on to the deck today (they have non scratch protective feet) and then hubby put our bbq back into the deck (on top of a bbq mat for protection). However, he put the base of the bbq on a thick towel and dragged it along the deck which left one long scuff mark. Not happy Jan!

Cheers - Team Cabot'sHi how do I decide if the white residue is “still curing” and will go away naturally, or is “moisture trapped” and needs to be cleaned off (possibly before it dries or hardens) and re-applied?
This relates to 2 coats of aquadeck applied to new merbau after New Timber Prep and Deck Clean, applied on a sunny day in June in Melbourne with clear weather and surface >10deg, but appeared next morning after cold dew/frost overnight.
White deposits are still runny, and water beads on rest of deck.
Thanks.

Hallo. Thanks for your query. I’ve used the product a few times but that doesn’t make me an expert. Here’s what I believe - the curing (?) or setting process might be slowed by the cold weather from d...

Personally I don’t think so. You could consider hiring an industrial blower heater and directing then warm air over the deck are concerned (but not directly onto it) and see if that helped. The risk you have presumably is that if it rains - the unset areas are likely to be impacted. I hope this helps - possibly not much. Regards.Hey Aux,
Thanks for reaching out to us! Our coatings take generally about 7 days to fully cure. However, with the cooler weather the curing process can take up to 14 days. ...
Read more It does sound like what you're experiencing is Water Whitening, which is common in water based coatings when exposed to moisture before it is fully cured. A few days of good sun exposure should dry the timber out well. You can test to see if this is moisture trapped in the coating by getting a hair dryer on the lowest heat setting and try to dry out an area of the coating - keeping in mind though to continuously move the hair dryer around so it does not damage the coating. If it dries out and the white marks seem to go away - exposure to sun will dry the rest out. If the hair dryer makes no improvement, please give us a call on 1800 011 006. Two years ago I purchased 10L of Aquadeck Kwila. Used it on my old veranda and I was satisfied with the results. The remainder was then stored in an outside shed. I noticed it got very hot in the shed during summer so I moved the paint to a cooler location after a few months. I also have a cabin with a new pine deck and decided to stain it during lock down. I used the balance of the old stain on the first coat. I would describe the colour of the stain in the Pail as dark chocolate. I bought a new 10L pail and found that the colour was what I would describe as translucent milk chocolate. I applied two more coats and find that the first coat is clearly visible and hence appears blotchy. I would like a fix to my problem. I don't consider your product is to blame, but I need help with a blotchy deck!

Can i put the decking oil directly over top of the old aquadeck (after using the deck clean). Will it soak into the wood or sit on top of the old aquadeck ??? I am desperate to avoid having to sand my deck again ... still have nightmares from the last time !!
Hi Jasmine,
Thanks so much for reaching out to us! ...
Read moreYou can certainly move on and use an Oil based Decking Oil. You will need to determine if the timber is ready for a new coating, by doing a simple water bead test. Sprinkle droplets of water on to the surface of the timber. If the water beads on top of the timber, the timber is not quite ready for a new coating. And further weathering is required - or this where you may want to consider sanding or stripping. If the water readily penetrates the surface of the timber, this is an indication that the timber is ready for a new coating and you can certainly move on to using an oil based coating. Be sure to give the timber a very good clean first using the Deck Clean to ensure the timber is best prepared for coating. If you do happen to have any areas of the existing coating that is in poor condition, again, you may want to consider sanding or stripping just so you get the best possible results when you do go to coat the timber. If you would like to discuss this further, or need any advice on an up-coming project, give our Help & Advice team a call on 1800 011 006. I know I will have to sand the steps and outer boards to get rid of the peeling area but what about the rest of the deck that is still in good condition, can I just clean it and paint it?

Hi Gil!
Thanks for your question! You're right, you will need to sand those areas back to a sound surface and give all of the timber a really good clean with the Deck Clean. ...

We have just finished using Timber Prep, then Deck Clean & 2 coats of Aquadeck Clear on our new Merbau Deck. It looks great. However, it’s scuffing quite easily & already has some marks on it that don’t come off... do we need to do a third coat? The deck is undercover & only gets some morning sun. We waited overnight before walking on it & the temperature was well above 10degrees when we did the job. Is. It normal to expect it to mark so easily?
I didn’t walk on it with shoes for 2 days. A week before putting furniture on it.
It was slightly tacky whilst fully “curing”
I didn’t put very thick coats on the 2nd and 3rd time.
I haven’t seen any scuffing
Hi Ady,
Thanks for reaching out to us! While the coating is dry enough after a minimum of 8 hours to walk on, the coating still has not fully cured and is still soft. ...
Read more It does take 7 days for the coating to fully cure - for this reason we recommend not replacing any furniture, as it can scuff, mark, indent and damage the coating.
