Is it possible to have a Cel-Fi unit that can work in my car / caravan and when not needed there be used in my home?

I am staying in a caravan park that does not allow cel-fi go units to be turned on. The manager says if several people have these on then data flow will be degraded for others. Is this true?

He is speculating. Just turn it on, it is between you and Telstra and not his business anyway.

That doesn't answer my question and is a risky strategy. I have pre-paid the site and management can kick me out of the park and there is no alternative park nearby.

Instead of asking that question on here, why not simply call Powertech and ask them?

I assume it wouldn't make a difference since it is merely taking the signal and boosting it for your phone, it's not stealing signal.

I think the cel-fi people monitor this thread but if I don't get a reply then I will ask direct. The signal strength is not the manager's issue, rather if a dozen people start streaming Netflix because they have boosters and therefore can do so then the available data bandwidth for others including his booking office is reduced. The network is slow during holiday periods even in town with full signal.

Does each device connecting to cel fi require its own google acct?

A Google account is not required. Connection is automatic just like a cell tower and does not requiring any authentication or login.

I have GO repeater in my hallway It use to work perfectly in my room but recently it doesn’t seem to reach my room and the light flashes red- that is until I’m sitting literally next to it in the hallway, then the light turns green. But as soon as I take two steps away it’s back to flashing red and I get weak signal in my phone.

A flashing red LED indicates the GO is searching for the mobile network, download the WAVE App on your phone and check this. Also check the connector that goes into the external antenna port on the GO, the cable and the antenna. Maybe the antenna or cable needs to be repointed, relocated or replaced. We cannot explain why the GO finds the network when you are nearby, maybe your body is reflecting the signal.

Hi, we have just purchased a Cel-Fi Go with portable carry case so we can move it between car and caravan. Any problems with heat? as most articles say to make sure the component has air flow
Cheers Rod

Hi Rod,

I can't say I've had issue's because my unit is in an open location and not mounted, so I can also move it extremely easily.

You can monitor the units temperature in the Xwave app.

I'd suggest setting it up and leaving it for a bit outside of the box to check temp of the unit and then retry with the unit in the box for some hours and see if there is a variance.

If there's any way to put some holes in the carry case to allow for airflow, that should solve any over heating issue's.

Thanks,
Glenn.

Cel-Fi unit (Optus), installed the unit, downloaded the X Wave app and My Wave app, I get 5 bars of signal @ 4G always, also streaming movies with settings at 1080p without an issue but if I try to make a phone call or answer a phone call the signal drops from 5 bars at 4G to H with one bar is a matter of seconds and then it drops the call and that's it, it drops out, I don't understand whats going on with it or how to fix it, any solution would be very much appreciated

Hi Patrick,

What you are experiencing is normal network behaviour.

You will need to contact Optus and ask for them to turn on "Voice Over LTE" (VoLTE) on your account.

This is needed to be turned on by Optus because all calls when this is not switched on go through the 3G aka H network and 4G is ONLY for data.

VoLTE means voice calls can go through the 4G network as data packets and thus allows calls through the 4G network.

Without having ing this setting turned on by Optus, your calls will always go through the 3G network, which slows down call connection times and means you can't use the internet during a call.

Call Optus and ask for VoLTE (pronounced Volt) to be turned on and this will fix your issues mate.

Cheers,
Glenn.

I’m looking at buying a secondhand unit for the home
The seller said it’s not be locked to either Telstra or Optus
I thought it had to be one or the other?

We have Cel-fi just fitted to our home, downloaded app, registered and my phone works. But my partners phone doesn't connect to it, do I have to change something on his phone or do I have to download wave on his phone too.

Do I always need to open the app or will it work automatically

No you can change bands by pressing the button on the celfi but the app is good for finding the best antenna position.and locking onto a band and other features,

We have just had a celfi go installed on our boat along with a Wi-Fi router that runs a Telstra data sim. My question is will this router pick up the boosted signal from the celfi go?

I have been using a cel-fi GO for almost a year with minimal issues. It has been generally slower than desired, but it does it's job. However, in the past couple of weeks it has begun slowing down and dropping out on my phone despite showing a full 4 bars of 4G. Also, all the iPhones in my family only connect to the repeater when it is set to 3G

Hi, can anyone tell me if my phone will be affected if there are too many devices in range of my cel-fi. I continue to loose phone reception and my broadband struggles to stream these days. The only thing that has recently changed is another broadband devices in the house. I've checked my cel-fi and updates are all good as well as signal strength etc.

I have a celfi telstra stationary unit connected to a omni directional on roof. 1 or 2 bars on phone at aerial. Out put is a white box. We have it set on 3g. It boosts the signal great for a few weeks then red light flashes says no input signal. I reset it and check software upto date but does not work. I leave it on and in a week it is working again. Why? Can i fix this? Thanks in advance Rob

Hi I’m looking at purchasing a cel-fi go unit and wan to use it in my Ute and when I am stopped transfer it to the caravan, I will have two aerials one on Ute and one on caravan, and just transfer main unit. Is this possible?

Paul S.
Paul S. ·

Hi Steve I have the same issue and decided to permanently mount cel-fi unit in ute glove box and feed its output to a two way splitter, one output of the splitter goes to the ute's internal antenna while the other goes to the van's internal antenna via a quality low loss cable. All connectors, fittings and cables are available and it's a simple matter of connecting the 'extension' cable to the van's (antenna) input socket once you park your van.
This setup works for me, hope it helps.. Cheers, Paul

Hi. How can I tell how many devices are connected (if any) to the CEL-Fi. Is there a place in WAVE I can look for this!

Ron J.
Ron J. ·

I have never checked how many devices are connected. Possibly there is somewhere in the WAVE app where it states the number of devices connected. We are not at our holiday house so I can't check for you. Going down next week,bI will have a look.

Stationary and mobile cel fi, are they both the same and can be used either way, ?

Alan
Alan ·

The Mobile unit will only boost when the signal strength from the antenna drops below a usable limit which I think is about -95dBm. It will allow you to travel around without needing re-registration which would happen if you try using a stationary model in a car.

Paul S.
Paul S. ·

Hi, I believe the stationary unit has a higher gain (100dB?).
Also I was told the mobile unit has a faster switching speed from cell to cell in order to minimize signal dropouts.

My Cel fi system is in a house in a remote area in Australia. It has been used in this area successfully for sometime now with nil issues but I was required to relocate it in the same house. Since then we will have full signal for a couple hours then all of a sudden it will drop out completely only to be fully restored hours later ( up to 12hrs). We have relocated it back to the original location with the exact same result. I have reset it etc but no change, any ideas?
Thanks heaps

We use Cel Fi go out bush with 18db yaggie doner antenna up to 120km from Telstra towers… Yes we also get dropouts during the day. I’m no RF engineer but because these units only need a sniff of signal, I put the dropouts for hours on end down to atmospheric conditions, humidity and cloud cover… Do you use a direction antenna ?

Alan
Alan ·

If it needs re-registration it will work for 15minutes after a reboot and then will stop boosting and the LED will flash red. Download Celfi Wave app - reboot Celfi - run the app - it will open on the registration page. Enter your name and address and submit. This happens when the Celfi thinks it has been moved to a new address.

I’m purchasing cel fi go on Friday
I have Mayb one bar and sos on my mobile my signal used to be 4 g and was like this for ten years I live in butler Perth
I hope your product is going to work
I don’t know why I’m affected Telstra just keep throwing off really they should be paying for this

Sometimes the signal is severely attenuated by the structure of the house. Crimsafe, window tint, metal louvres, etc. If you get 2 bars standing on the roof it is very likely to work satisfactorily if you mount an antenna on the roof.

Hello . When travelling in remote areas is it better to switch the unit to 3g or leave it on auto to get the best boost of phone signal/data . Thanks

I purchased the CelFi Go pack from Telstra shop and sales assistant that offered little advice about self install, was actually more keen to sign me up on a plan when I said I would purchase outright.
My install question relates to the donor antenna. What is the recommended way to attach the small antenna to the roof and/or roof rack of my Ford ranger? I can’t find any fixing holes or suggested ways to attach to my vehicle. At this stage I’m thinking either silicone or strong Velcro. Any suggestions?
