Chef 54cm Cooker CFG517 (page 2 of 2)

I bought this upright cooker just 2 weeks ago. With first baking I noticed all knobs were very hot. Later we used a separate grill, which made knobs much hotter.Contacted a shop where we bought this, they arranged Electrolux service guy to come and check it. According to ELECTROLUX knobs could be hot up to 70-80C which is normal and safe. Our knobs were only hot 45C without grill on (when temperature taken) and as such there is nothing wrong with this product according to them. I do not believe President and CEO of AB Electrolux [name removed]...
Read more would be happy to use that kind of product and would request replacement without any additional charges immediately. The shop where we bought our Chef 540mm upright cooker is working on replacement but we will see how it all going to end up.
This has been a painful item since we bought it. Turning on top cookers often puts flame out in oven. The grilling tray only pulls out halfway, making flipping rear items near impossible. Now, the oven itself just WILL NOT TURN OFF. This is the last straw, bye bye to junk pile. Never buying chef again
th food is cooked well but I feel the oven exterior gets way too hot even he knobs on the stove are extremely hot a safety issue I will be contacting the organisation I purchased this from hoping for a resolution. Basically you can not touch the exterior whilst using the oven

The oven flame keeps on cutting out so meals are never cooked oven roast or any baking which is frustrating as you have to sit there and watch the oven so when the flame cuts out you can turn the nob off immediately so no gas builds in the house.Wouldnt buy this oven even thou im in a rental property

This oven exploded a fireball from top vent while being used safely
Hi
I am writing to warn potential customers that this model of Chef oven, whilst being used safely, exploded a fireball from the top vent. I was cooking with both the oven and grill turned on medium heats. Very dangerous cheaply made stove in my opinion... I was injured and received thermal burns and the kitchen was damaged.

My owner got this new cooker installed 2 months back. Two days back one of the gas knob got stuck on the ON position. With gas leaking into the kitchen, I had to turn the knob a bit harder to bring it to the OFF position. Once there things seemed to be back to normal. But next day morning, I discovered that the kitchen was filled with gas. The burner that got stuck was slowly leaking gas. Unfortunately my owner is out for the weekend, so I called BingLee(where my owner bought the appliance from) and they pushed me to Chef Support. When I called...
Read more Chef, they said that they can't do anything till my owner comes back. It doesn't matter that this is a dangerous stove that could have exploded or something. My 10 year old Chef needed some costly repairs (the burner guard had a hole burn in it) so instead of the nearly $400 in repairs we decided to put the money toward a new stove. I specifically wanted a separate gas grill and this is one of the few stoves that offered it along with a decent sized oven. I wish I'd just gone with the repairs now.
While there are some good points about this stove, every one has a con to go with it.
The grill. As I said, it has the stand alone gas grill which is great, just don't try to move the tray especia...
Read morelly to the top. The whole thing has to be tilted just so for the guides to slip onto the side bars properly and trying to do that as the grill tray hits the top of the stove is an object in frustration. The oven. It's a great size and I love the independent fan and light, however my old stove I could just turn on and it would start, this one you need to hold the gas button for 10 seconds. Not a big deal but it seems a step backward. The big problem is the heat this thing puts out. As others have said it really does get extremely hot, the knobs are hot enough to be uncomfortable to the touch. I have a cupboard above the stove with bowls in it and even they get hot from the radiant heat. I'm also not a fan of the built in guides for the racks. The whole thing has a cheap and nasty feel to it. The stove top. My other chef has a separate grate for a wok if needed, this one has it built in, basically making one burner useless for any other pots. If all four arms on the grate were the same it probably wouldn't be much of a problem but the back arm shorter and bent at a weird angle so any saucepan you place on there is resting on a point. Definitely a safety hazard as it is NOT stable. The other thing I'm not keen on is the simmer burner has been moved to the front of the stove top. I make a lot of stocks and soups which means with the (useless) wok burner on the left and simmer burner on the right, if I want to do any other cooking I have to use the back burners, very awkward and dangerous when you have a 15 litre stock pot in front of you. On my previous stove I could happily leave a pot bubbling away at the back with the front free and clear for other work.Hi Melonyc,

Read more not in my review because I didn't realise how bad it was at that point), I was pointed to the manual, which says to bake only in the centre of the oven. I queried what was the point of having multiple shelves or even multiple placement spots if the oven is useless outside of a very tight spec but basically got a rote reply about using the item as specified. Looks like 6 cupcakes at a time is the most this stove will handle, which makes a mockery of their highlighting how large it is!Do not purchase ! This oven is highly dangerous as the exterior on the top and sides becomes so hot you would receive very bad burns if you we're to just slightly touch when oven is on. We have tried two of the same chef s/s gas oven and both became unbelievably hot. they must be cheaply made and do not have enough insulation surrounding the oven cavity. I believe if we had kept this oven and continued to use it, it would have caused a fire for sure! I think there should be a total recall on this unit.
It looks nice

We purchased our Chef CFG517WA gas oven/stove because we needed a narrow (54cm) freestanding stove to replace our existing stove of 25 years. We searched and waited for 18 months to find a gas stove that had a separate griller, decent sized fan forced oven, electronic ignition and knobs that did not fall off as well as a glass front that did not get too hot. We searched the web and examined a large range of stoves and read a large number of reviews. My wife, who has worked in the food industry was not fully satisfied with the alternatives until...
Read more we saw this stove come onto the market recently. Simple electronic ignition without too much to go wrong. A separate gas griller. A fan forced oven that heats food evenly and does not require too much bending. Easy to clean knobs and surfaces. A clear glass front that does not get too hot. No additional electrical (just a 10A line) or upgraded gas connections needed.3 basic burners and a wok burner.Whenever using oven or grill the front control panel becomes that hot you cant touch controls. developed a gas leak wich took 6 weeks to be fixed and one of the burners cant be switched off until oven has cooled down. when i contacted electrolux about overheating problem i was told temperatures up to 70 degrees where within guide lines. in my opinion this oven is dangerous especially if you have small children.

Read moreof the stove - very disappointing that this very dangerous design fault has not been rectified in nearly 20 years - I recommend you ask for refund/credit from Good Guys as this product is faulty. I nearly bought a new stainless steel Chef gas stove with separate grill this year, contacted Electrolux re this same problem with my Chef gas stove in 1993, Electrolux claimed to have no knowledge of this problem. Having read your feedback, I will not purchase another Chef gas upright stove.
