Not bad

Curves isn't too bad. I lost 20 kilos when I was 16 and it was a great first gym. However the opening hours are what really made me join another gym, and I used to work out really hard in such a short amount of time, which used to injure me. If I was older and had more time I'd probably join again.
Easy, cheaper than most gyms, friendly staff
Opening hours, not good for people who want to go hard

I love it!

i started at curves when i turned 50 - i was never focussed on my health or fitness; always other people took priority. i've been going for nearly 2 years now, i love the atmosphere in the gym, really welcoming and friendly. i always felt like my goals were achievable and the only person i had to compete against was myself. it is pricey, but in my opinion its worth it. there are no mirrors, no 'beautiful people' where we all compare each other. i've never felt so good about myself, or so strong and attractive. thanks Curves Orange... a great team!
friendly atmosphere, no mirrors
the hours can be restrictive

Staff friendly at first, made huge promises, once your signed up and after the first few visits, basically don't care about the client. Chat on incessently with those they know, and ignor the rest of the group. Circuit oh so very boring after the first few sessions. I would not recommend wasting money on curves.
Women only, close to home
Limited opening hours, not suited to women who work 40 hours per week. Not open Saturday afternoon, Sunday or holidays.

Excellent

I love going to curves, the workout is great, it is very quick at only 30 minutes and I burn on average over 500 calories! I have been going for around a month now and can already see changes in my muscle definition so I believe that the curves workout has been much more effective than the previous gym I had been attending.
Loving curves smart at the moment, it really customises the workout and pushes you to work as hard as you possibly can, the results are speaking for themselves. Highly recommended!
Friendly Staff, Quick and effective workout
Closes quite early in the evenings.

I go with my mum, auntie and friend, we have been made to feel really welcome as the new ones and even the other ladies doing the circuit are friendly. They recently change the circuit around which gives you a different workout and also they are starting Curves with Zumba...looking forward to trying it next week!
reasonable price, fun place to go and NOT boring at our local Curves in Gladstone Park...the girls there are really friendly
none for me, but that's a personal choice

The idea is excellent BUT quality depends on each franchise. I have been to some Curves which have been outstanding. Get a trial membership first if you can.
Close to home. Quick circuts. A safe environment for someome who is concerned about body image. No fancy gym gear required. Staff well trained.
My local Curves in Rosebud is shabby and not clean. I spoke to them about this and they had not noticed! Staff helpful to 'their friends' others are ignored. Circut gets boring. Pressure to buy products. Silly games and competitions.

Good program if you're not too far over ideal weight. I don't think that it works with long term weight. I found it a bit expensive compared to other gyms.
Girls only, can be a bit less self conscious. Work at your own pace, easy to understand what to do and access to fitness consultant at all times. Quick program.
Expensive, pressure to attend more regularly. Close between 11 and 1 (good time to go for mothers like me with kids in school)

I really think you are better at a traditional gym, or even walking at home. I find this a very expensive option and that it is easy to get bored with. Not my style at all
The staff are friendly enough
I wanted to love this concept but I can't. You change stations so often that just as I was starting to get a workout we changed again. Limited opening hours make it difficult to attend. For what you get it is very pricey and contracts are hard to get out of. For a beginner it might be ok but it is hard to truly challenge yourself

I decided to try the curves offer of $84 dollars for 6 weeks. After reconsidering the offer the next day I decided not to go ahed with it and returned to the Albury curves to get my money back as I had a 7 day cooling off period. Now 6 weeks has passed and I have not received my refund despite many trips to the gym and false promises. I did not think gyms could be run by dishonest people and will do my best to discredit the organisation until my money has been returned.

I was not immpressed. I made an appointment, I dressed in gym clothes, arrived on time and was subjected to an hour of sales pressure at the desk which i resisted and then was told to not waste thier time coming back for the remainder of my suposed free one week trial membership as i obviously had no intention of joining.
I liked that there was a one week free trial offer to allow me to asses if this would be the gym I attended.
Sales pressure and failure to honour the promised one week trial offer when they were unable to get mt to commit to long term membership at my first visit..I never even got to try out the gym.

I had been a member of Curves for approximately one year and towards the end of that time, I dreaded going to my workouts. I found the routines extremely boring after a short period of time, and if the other women did not wish to chat a little bit, the time went by very slowly. I am sure if you really pushed yourself on the machines, you could achieve some level of fitness, however I have had much better results attending a mainstream gym. Although it isn't women's only, I find the vibe and the different machines to be far more gratifying and inspirational.
Women only environment. Friendly staff. Short walk from my home. Competitive pricing.
Got very boring very quickly.

the two "trainers" who worked each shift were friendly and helpful, all just went down hill when I met the owner after my first weigh/measure, was told that I wasn't putting in enough effort and that I wouldn't lose inches blah blah blah - did mention that that wasn't my major aim to start with, getting motivation to get out of the house each day was - owner made me feel so bad about myself and her reverse psycology has gone very wrong and have slipped back into post-natal depression, thanks alot
cheap to join, monthly direct debit and low exit fee
opening hours, attitude of owner and her reverse psycology

I joined Curves in 2009, paying $59.00 per month. Will my monthly fee rise or will it always remain $59?

There is every chance that your monthly fee will rise. I too joined Curves in 2009 and my monthly fee increased over the years. Currently, it is just under $80-00 per month.

Cancel this Join perhaps weight watchers and walk 45 mins daily, stretch, squat and practice push ups. Don't waste your hard earned money on this type of business.

after you have joined with a automatic withdraw from your checking can they change the time on you and still take your money?

As it's a monthly withdrawal from your account, that just happens. As far as time is concerned, I'm not sure what you mean because there is no set times for classes. Each club has their own opening and closing times.

If you join curves can they increase your membership costs as time goes by? I was told it will always stay on your cost you joined up on. Can anyone advise me on this as my membership price has increased.

I am not completely sure. My membership did not change when I was member but also, my membership fees were discounted as I joined during a promotion, and once the promotion time expired I was paying the usual fees per month. Most gyms readjust pricing when the lease of the premises they are settled increase, so I would guess it is the same with Curves. The only way to be sure about this is to ask Curves directly 1300 287 837 or, even better, send them an email asking this here http://curves.com.au/contact-us. You will have a written proof in case you visit one of their gyms and a staff misinforms you. Also, read the terms and conditions!

Bazinga

Under normal circumstances your membership fees will always remain the same as when you started provided you never left and then rejoined. (Eg: If you joined and the rate was $59 a month but after 2 years you needed to cancel, but then after 6, 7, 8 months etc., you decided to rejoin, the monthly fees may have risen to $79 a month which is what you would not have to pay.
Sometimes we have promotions as we do at the moment. Monthly fees have been halved for 3 months and then come February 2016 your fees would be the normal $79 a month. This would be explained to you at the time of sign up.

Their so called legal document stating that "The Member may continue to maintain this membership, at the above monthly rate for the life of the member or the facility" is not worth the paper its written on. Even though our franchise remained under the same ownership they claimed that the umbrella company of Curves international had changed hands numerous times and therefore the agreement was void- what a load of crock!!
