Never open
I joined Curves Pakenham thinking the women's only gym would suit me. The problem was the opening hours. I always went I the afternoon at opening 2.30 pm before school pickup. Within a couple of months of joining the hours were cut back to opening at 4pm. WhenI complained management weren't interested and insisted I pay a $50 cancellation fee to end my contract. Totally ripped off!

Warning, don't be locked in with direct debit
I joined curves morley but couldn't use the gym more than 2 or 3 times in the first month. Never used it again in a year. I signed in stateting my health issues but they just require your signature as enough proof of your good or bad health. Same situation for the membership of my under age child. Both memberships paid by me through direct debit. To cancel the membership i had to hand in loads of doctors certificates stating we were not able to do physical activities. It was a real nightmare, you are good enough to make a statement on your hea...Read more
lth to join in but not to cancel it!!, and meanwhile you cannot do anything about the direct debit! The thin printing is very thin here, watch out, !! When i finally managed to hand in the papers, they said they would call me in 2 or 3 business days with the decision. I had to make the call 10 days later. Ah, and don't even bother to send them a mail, because they don't read them or accept any advise done through the mail, despite they give you a card with it., not very transparent business at all!1 comment

Curves has given me tools to add years to my life & life to my years!
I joined Curves at a time when I was desperate to regain a healthy, balanced life that had eluded me for about 10 years. I was so unhappy. & so tired of trying to lose weight without success I was turning 50 later that year & celebrating my 30th wedding anniversary as well. I wanted to turn my life around. I joined in February & I followed the Curves Complete program, taking on board every bit of wisdom offered to me. I reached my goal of losing 20kilos by my birthday in August. I also enjoyed a memorable cruise with my hubby in November, comp...Read more

Pre using Gym Assessment
Very professional understanding and polite staff. ([name removed] at Sutherland Gym). Were able to show me all the equipment with a lot of patience. It was good for me because after having both hips replaced. I will be able to get movement and strength back into my system. I have to listen to the limitations of my body and only do what I can and build up slowly. Which is very good. Adjustments to exercises was also shown. Staff are always available whenever you need them. First month is free. I know that I am going to continue and join because the staff and atmosphere created all felt good and it suits my needs.
Try before you buy into it.

An annoying Instructor ruins my work out every time she is there.
I love the circuit and have burned up to 489 calories in half an hour. This is great but then I have an instructor coming along interrupting me, cutting my calorie burn and telling me to do things differently when I am working out just fine. I am not five and know if I am hulking it on the shoulders but she insists on touching my shoulder to prove she is the instructor - it seems - to every one. I want to be left in peace. It doesn't happen. I hate feeling like a kid in class striving to be left alone by the must point out every single thing teacher.
Watch out for the sly sign up tactics that do not disclose openly how one must pay to get out of contract and trick you into believing it is a bad idea to do monthly sign in.

Curves - Mt Gravatt, Queensland
Love it !! Staff and my fellow gym mates are friendly, motivating and inspiring. I go between Mt Gravatt and Daisy Hill to work it in with my busy work schedule. I am going to New Zealand for Xmas and will be attending Curves there also. Its a 30 minute workout with a 5 minute stretch at the end. Too EASY!! If I can do it anyone can :)

I like them
I could not find anything here for Curves QLD, so I will comment here.
I quite like the curves gym.
The staff were friendly, unfortunately at my gym there is one trainer who can't speak English, she had to point to my toes because she didn't know the word for "toe". I am quite surprised by this because from all the girls I have done the circuit with, I met no one who could speak another language, or have difficulties with English. But having my first session with her did make things very hard. Nonetheless, my gym did compensate this by s...Read more
pending the next 3 sessions one on one with me helping me with my technique, and making the machines more beneficial. Looking at all the negative comments, I wasn't made aware of any cool down periods to cancel your contract, however it did say in the contract that if you decide to terminate my contract within 12 months of signing up I will have to pay out the contract. I am a bit let down that when I asked if I can pause my membership while on holiday (and not pay anything), they said I could...and then after signing up they said I couldn't.Similar opinion? Just want all innocent ladies in the Penrith area to know that the owner of Penrith Curves is a dishonest person. She owned the Parramatta Curves and cheated her staff and members of not only their trust but a lot of money that she still owes them .I still cannot understand asto how they can let her run another Curves franchise.Don't get decieved by her sweet smile and her beautiful family, thats how they operate and they go from suburb to suburb.Let's stop her now so that noone else loses faith in good people who do exist in this world!!!

Dishonest and poor management!
A warning to all Curves members, carefully read all of the contract. I joined the gym with my two teenage daughters and unknowingly signed a contract that stated (in fine print) that I would be charged an exit fee if i ever decided to leave this gym. This has taught my daughters to not trust anyone.
The owner of Orange Curves did not endeavour to address any of these issues and signed me up for over 6 months when i was only interested in a trial period of 3 months. I then wrote an email giving them 30 days notice of termination which was neve...Read more

Murray Bridge Curves
I lost 28kg by eating sensible (no chocolate/cake/chips/nibbles etc) and attending curves 5x week. I stopped attending through winter due to an increase in my work commitments and the lack of daylight hours. I consistently gained weight every week I did not attend, going to curves is a part of a holistic weight management / healthy lifestyle plan. I agree, the circuit can feel routine and boring but the staff (at murray bridge) engage with you and motivate you.. Before you know it the 30minutes have passed for another day! Would not change back to a mainstream gym after being a Curves member.
Curves is the best gym I have ever joined. I would never change from Curves now & the staff are friendly, supportive & understand what it's like to need to lose weight because unlike mainstream gyms, Curves staff have been in the same situation as most of us needing to lose weight. The trading hours don't affect me because I think you need to make an effort yourself when deciding to lose weight or get fit. It's not always about the world fitting in with you, it's about you getting off your bum & trying to fit in with the world. I had better results with Curves in such a short time than I had with other gyms or programs & I have tried them all. I highly recommend Curves to every woman I meet & know who want to join an exercise program.

Boring!
After a while the curcuit becomes VERY boring with no opportunity for variation except to reverse the direction of the circuit! I received some helpful encouragement at times but most of the time it is annoying to have the staff in your face when you are trying to exercise. Curves is OK for a short period of time but I think you could do just as well by walking, jogging and swimming which is a lot less expensive.
Friendly. Trying hard.
Circuit quickly becomes boring. Not a means to lose weight.

Very friendly and helpful; good motivators and always welcoming. I haven't been for a while due to an accident and they regularly ring me to see when I will be able to return; how I am feeling etc. I haven't cancelled my membership because I do want to return and their concern for my well-being makes me want to return..
Welcoming, easy to use equipment with staff there to ensure everyone is working out safely
No showers or toilets

I am a member of Curves Gym Bankstown when I first join the Gym I was very welcomed from the staff but the story changed when I tried to exist for a medical reason, they become really careless about answering my request and phone call, so my advice don't join the Gym you will get hit with fees when you want to exist and 30 days writing notice. !!!! so you paying for one month for nothing !!!

I always look forward to going there!
I go to the curves in liverpool, i only recently joined but im already loving it. Im only 14 years old, at first i was really scared to go and i was scared there was going to be people pressuring me. I remember i stepped in the gym for the first time and the lady greeted very nicely, and she showed me all the equipment, how to use it etc.
I go with my sister, she forced me to join with her, but now that i have im really glad she did. The staff are really nice and encouraging and it's all "females" so i feel much more comfortable. I don't kno...Read more

I love Curves
In just 1 month when I followed the guidlines of 3 - 4 workouts a week with walking for 1/2 hr every day, watching what I ate (high protein) I lost 3 kgs and heaps of cms. This is really a fast program and I am impressed that you can burn up to 500 calories in 1/2hr. I am a busy mum and I work and help my husband run his buisness. I couldn't go to a traditional gym for an 1 1/2 each day to do this and I dont want to waste my time just walking and not toning my waist and whole body. I find it quick and easy, fun and then I can get on with the re...Read more

Other Gyms are much better
Made enquiries by phone but they insisted I came in to talk to them. The start up was very expensive compared to other gyms in our area. Found the hours a lot shorter too. Didn't like the woman she seemed pushy and the gym itself was really small and crowded with equipment, felt suffocated and went elsewhere.
I didn't like anything about Curves.
Expensive, tiny, pushy staff member

Dishonest Curves Parramatta Owner - 2011
I needed to end my contract, which the owner told me was acceptable. I forfeited my first payment even though I only went 3 times. Curves Parramatta continued to debit my account, promised to pay it back and then did not do it and continually told me "the cheque was in the mail" when no effort was made to repay the illegal account debits. Be very careful with the current owner as she will not let you have copies on contracts and agreements and then debits bank accounts when no service is being received. The business service is poor and hardly no attendees.
They continue to debit bank account when the membership is cancelled and take more than the membership cancellation fee

I joined Curves in 2009, paying $59.00 per month. Will my monthly fee rise or will it always remain $59?
2 answers
There is every chance that your monthly fee will rise. I too joined Curves in 2009 and my monthly fee increased over the years. Currently, it is just under $80-00 per month.
Cancel this Join perhaps weight watchers and walk 45 mins daily, stretch, squat and practice push ups. Don't waste your hard earned money on this type of business.
Mary Lindsleyasked
after you have joined with a automatic withdraw from your checking can they change the time on you and still take your money?
1 answer
As it's a monthly withdrawal from your account, that just happens. As far as time is concerned, I'm not sure what you mean because there is no set times for classes. Each club has their own opening and closing times.
Sallyasked
If you join curves can they increase your membership costs as time goes by? I was told it will always stay on your cost you joined up on. Can anyone advise me on this as my membership price has increased.
3 answers
I am not completely sure. My membership did not change when I was member but also, my membership fees were discounted as I joined during a promotion, and once the promotion time expired I was paying the usual fees per month. Most gyms readjust pricing when the lease of the premises they are settled increase, so I would guess it is the same with Curves. The only way to be sure about this is to ask Curves directly 1300 287 837 or, even better, send them an email asking this here http://curves.com.au/contact-us. You will have a written proof in case you visit one of their gyms and a staff misinforms you. Also, read the terms and conditions!
Under normal circumstances your membership fees will always remain the same as when you started provided you never left and then rejoined. (Eg: If you joined and the rate was $59 a month but after 2 years you needed to cancel, but then after 6, 7, 8 months etc., you decided to rejoin, the monthly fees may have risen to $79 a month which is what you would not have to pay.
Sometimes we have promotions as we do at the moment. Monthly fees have been halved for 3 months and then come February 2016 your fees would be the normal $79 a month. This would be explained to you at the time of sign up.
Their so called legal document stating that "The Member may continue to maintain this membership, at the above monthly rate for the life of the member or the facility" is not worth the paper its written on. Even though our franchise remained under the same ownership they claimed that the umbrella company of Curves international had changed hands numerous times and therefore the agreement was void- what a load of crock!!

Similar story to mine. They even threated me they could take legal action if I cancelled the direct debit unilaterally.m
