Concept great. Head office admin disgusting.
Whilst the amenities and staff at my location was great, when the centre closed down and I needed information regarding statements for my health insurance for rebates, suddenly nobody has information about me, no history or records of payments of the past 7 years of my loyal and prompt service and payment. When the place closed down where did all my history/records go. just make sure if you need info from your branch do it now because if they close their doors, you are a nobody and they don't want to help you at all.

Glad we're out.
My daughter and I joined the parramatta location. After a long time, the staff became rude, unsupportive and uncaring. We tried to get out of the contract, but they wouldn't let us until I threatened the ombudsman.

Great program for busy women
I've been going for years, it's a great program which gets you fit in 30 minutes. In fact I've never been fitter in my adult life. Of course you have to work at it, going 3 times a week is best. It only takes 30 minutes and no set times and I just call in on my way home from work. The people are professional and friendly.

VERY DISHEARTENED.
I enjoyed going to Curves Tweed Heads, but I left due to family circumstances. Told them, emailed them, because they kept taking nearly $100 per month for 12 months. Had no reply from them. Eventually contacted the centre and they stopped payments, but would not give me a refund from the time I left the centre. I had been contacting Curves head office for all this, but didn't know I had to contact the actual centre. No such thing as good will from these people. I was on Curves Complete, the food management, which I signed a contract for 12 mont...Read more
hs. I assumed payments would have stopped even after this period, I didn't even think about them keeping up with payments, a long time later(12 MONTHS), I found out they were still charging. Even if they refunded me for the time after my contract finished, I would have been satisfied, but alas, no such thing as fair play. Just money grabbing. When I hadn't been their for quite a while, you would think that they would have contacted me to ask what I was going to do.

Avoid Curves Enfield/Strathfield
Moved without providing notice then continued to take money from credit card. Did not update website, did not return calls, did not leave sign on the door, head office unable/unwilling to do anything. Promised refund never arrived.
Dirty, limited facilities, no close parking.
Hours of operation limited, not open Sundays.
Manager unpleasant (e.g will not open door until exact opening time even if pouring with rain) and is male which is suboptimal in a women's only gym.

Misleading contracts, you can never leave.... pay, pay, pay and pay some more.
Pros: Friendly clients working out. Clean equipment.
Cons: Heavily pressured to sign contract without reading the fine print. Contract misleading - the fine print says you get offered a 3month contract, but you aren't - even if you want a short term plan. You get sucked into a 12month contract, with penalty costs and fees for terminating early. If you want to leave, they suck you in with plenty of promise just to keep you hanging on (and keep billing you to get every last cent they possibly can). I didn't lose weight - but on joining a "r...Read more

Cancelled Contract & Still Charged
Due to unforeseen circumstances I had to cancel my contract with curves fill out and sign the appropriate paper work and then I confirmed with the manager at curves that all was in order and I was assured that curves would stop debiting my credit card. My office assistant verified that I had completed my end of the contract, however when the assistant noticed on my credit card invoice an amount being debited he did not recognize we both looked into it and retrieved all the invoices from the period of cancellation only to discover they were stil...Read more
l happily taking my money to the value of $600, when I could not contact the curves responsible I phoned another local curves to shed some light on what was going on, only to find that the person started to fault find with me and left me feeling that I was responsible and might not be reimbursed. So again I contacted the curves responsible and the woman in charge new exactly what I was talking about and was the person who had assured me that she would stop debiting my card, this was a stressful experience. I feel that if you want to pay as you go you are penalized by paying more and missing and out on any benefits. Being a working grandmother and being flexible is important to me and not having the added stress of paying money out if I cannot attend or having to remember to give notice if I go on holidays or become ill.Similar opinion? Beware of Mt Waverley Curves
Joined the Curves Mt Waverley for 12 months.
After 7 months I had a foot injury, presented the manager with doctor's certificate. My12 months expired and I did NOT renew the contract. I found 3 months later Curves happily continued to charge me even I didn't attend the gym. When I rang and questioned this all I got was a rude response from the manager that I should have read the small print of my contract and that they could continue charging me past 12 months. So ladies, beware! They don't really care about the clients, they just love your money!

Crap don't know how to run a business!
I used to go to curves Eltham and it was pretty good. I left for a while and decided this week to return as I have got a bit pudgy these last few lazy months. The last two times I have shown up to re join, the doors have been closed and nobody is there AND it's always been more than half an hour BEFORE the closing time posted on the windows!!! Do they not want my damn money!!??? Screw it, i'm not joining if they're going to be this useless before I even sign up, I can't imagine how it will be having to contend with them on a weekly basis. I have heard YMCA is great, they have heaps of classes it's a couple of extra minutes driving but I don't care. At least I know they will be reliable. What a mess up..

Fitness and Fun
I joined Curves Morley Western Australia at the end of 2014. I have been very impressed with this Gym. The owner is very involved with her members and motivating, her staff are very helpful and the daily classes are fantastic. I'm glad I didn't read or take notice of some of the reviews I have read on this site because I have had a very positive experience with the Morley franchise and would recommend it to anyone. My fitness levels have improved and I am heading towards the personal goal i have set myself.

Curves - Hillside
I joined Curves - Hillside via a Groupon Deal - it was what I needed to get up off my backside again and do something for me. I am a busy mother of 5 children and was finally putting myself first.
I started in November. I bought a 12month membership which was commenced in November 2014 and paid for in full. I thought this was good no direct debts etc .
I was attending 5-7 sessions per week, loved my sessions with [names removed].
[name removed] was not very motivating and just walked around, machines were not working properly and wer...Read more
e not being fixed. Every staff member would tell you a different way how to use the equipment, so a few of us suggested they play a DVD on how to use equipment - it took 6 weeks and was finally up and running. One of the staff member even abused a member in front of others as she openly said she enjoyed sessions with another trainer who was more motivating. This poor lady very embarrassed never returned to Curves and is now at the opposition. I also bought the curves smart for $50- which I thought would motivate me but it never worked and I was promised a new one in the New Year. A delivery was expected.Similar opinion? What a great club!!
I joined Curves Fairfield in June 2014, and in July they had all new state of the art equipment installed. Soon after, I was upgraded to using the CurvesSmart program that really pushes and challenges you. I also joined the Curves Complete Weight Management Program, which includes an on line dietary & shopping printout, along with a weekly mentoring session with your coach. As of the end of March 2015, working out 3-4 times a week, I have lost 14kg, (9.5kg of body fat), and 88cm!!

Curves Coburg worst gym ever
So when I joined I told the owner I was the type of person who joined a gym but never went. She assured me she would not let that happen at her gym. That she would contact me should I stop coming and motivate me to continue. Let's just say I haven't been in over a year and suprise suprise... not one follow up. She promised she would guide me through... apart from showing me the machines on the day I signed up, I was not given any guidance whatsoever. There was only ever one person on duty and they were either on the phone, gossiping with other ...Read more
regular members, or cleaning half an hour before close so they didn't have to stay a minute past close time. Which gets me to their hours. Absolutely not good enough! They want you to be there before 11.15 so they can close by 12. Once I got there at about 11.17 and was given not only an evil stare down but she also pointed to the clock as if I were her naughty student (all whilst chatting on the phone of course!) The workout only takes half an hour and I was out at 11.50. Suck it up! Now the gym is closed until 4 and classes start not long after that some days. Which makes it impossible to work out in such a tiny, old space when there's no room and not enough equipment to cater for everyone. Have tried cancelling my membership. Have passed the 12 month period so wouldn't have to pay the cancellation fee. However they won't stop payments until I return my tag which was never actually activated anyway. Sounds easy enough, except their ridiculous hours makes it a little difficult for somebody like me who works night shifts. I think they've taken enough money from me to cover this tiny piece of plastic! Worst experience at any gym by far. Worst facilities and definitely worst people, especially the owner who promises the world but fails to deliver even the basics!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Ideal gym for me
I have tried fernwood and all sorts of places. I go to Curves in Belconnen in canberra. After reading these reviews I was very sceptical that it was going to work for me. I am starting to really enjoying turning up there. There are older ladies through the day and I am very overweight. I have never been made to feel uncomfortable by anyone. They are friendly helpful without being overpowering. Really nice atmosphere. everyone is happy and cheerful and good music what's not to like about it.

I am so sorry that you have experienced this type of environment at your Curves. I am the owner of a Curves in WA, and do see your point of view. Yes we do have the Body Basic Circuit 3 days a week, but you may also join that circuit and NOT do the BBC. I have a sign up sheet for anyone who wants to workout at that time.I also readily give permission for Ladies to call me anytime to discuss any problems they may have. Believe me with over 260 Ladies the phone is always ringing. I feel that your situation should never have scaled up to where you were so unhappy. Thanks for your input.

Rude and patronising
I joined curves at Greensborough/Watsonia a year ago (I am 39 and needed to lose 10 kg), went along for 2 months most days and felt uncomfortable but thought it would pass. The 3rd month staff had attitude, were rude, patronising and failed to recognise queries, and the value to using other means of exercise within a regime (ie. going for a run).
It was like a parody of some sort of clicky hens group. Tank goodness the contract and payment for the worst product ever is over!!!!!
Do not join if you have any pride

Not happy...
I joined Curves a little under a year ago because I thought it could provide me with the safe, male-free environment that other local gyms did not offer. It seemed like the perfect arrangement at the time. About 7 months into my contract, things began to go downhill. The consultations (a part of our contracts) became far less frequent to the point where staff didn't bother and we weren't encouraged to weigh in or even given helpful dieting advice.
On top of this, new owners took over the business. Unlike the previous owners, this couple is ...Read more
heavily involved in both the management of the gym and training in the circuit. I am extremely uncomfortable with the fact that a man is constantly present, particularly when, at times, there are no female staff members around. The motto for curves is "No men. No Make-up and No Mirrors" and these are the exact reasons why I joined. I mean what next? Are men going to be allowed to workout with us? I just don't think its good enough! Lastly, I feel like the gym is never open and when it is, either Zumba or body basics classes are being held. This is every afternoon with no breaks in between days! I only enjoy the circuit so this means that I can only go to the gym within a very narrow time frame during the afternoon. This is terribly inconvenient and wasn’t at all what I signed up for. I also hate the fact that Curves has now become a franchise, it means that the owners determine everything without compromise (i.e opening times and the frequency of activities). It’s just not curves anymore! There is absolutely no focus on the meal plans or the importance of the circuit. I am highly disappointed and dissatisfied.Similar opinion? Lack of customer care
I rang to cancel my membership and after some run-around, was able to request this via email. I took the time to write a long email which expressed my dissatisfaction with my experience. I requested a reply email of acknowledgment. Two follow-up emails from my later and I got a one-liner saying they would reply when they received my tags. Once my tags were received, I got another one-liner confirming my account would become inactive. At no point did ANYONE take the time to discuss my concerns with me or to apologise for what I had experienced - reaffirming my decision that cancelling membership was the right call. Curves (Coburg) claims to be a 'community of women' where people support and care and I experienced nothing of the kind.

Funny part was that the form i signed today has a part that actually gives you a chance to opt out and pay $10 for each month you have left, well curves rouse hill give you no options at all. They told me i can't leave early all they could do will dramas getting medical letter is put a hold on it... I have since been diagnosed with fibromyalgia.... Everything fell apart for me after joining curves !!! Two payment of $64.66 = $129.32 should be refunded !!! Plus 9 months of payments $581.94 minus my $10 a month = $90 so take that off that leaves $491.94 thats a total of $621.26 i should be given back how disgusting that this can take place with no leg to stand on :-( why !!! I joined Curves in 2009, paying $59.00 per month. Will my monthly fee rise or will it always remain $59?
2 answers
There is every chance that your monthly fee will rise. I too joined Curves in 2009 and my monthly fee increased over the years. Currently, it is just under $80-00 per month.
Cancel this Join perhaps weight watchers and walk 45 mins daily, stretch, squat and practice push ups. Don't waste your hard earned money on this type of business.
Mary Lindsleyasked
after you have joined with a automatic withdraw from your checking can they change the time on you and still take your money?
1 answer
As it's a monthly withdrawal from your account, that just happens. As far as time is concerned, I'm not sure what you mean because there is no set times for classes. Each club has their own opening and closing times.
Sallyasked
If you join curves can they increase your membership costs as time goes by? I was told it will always stay on your cost you joined up on. Can anyone advise me on this as my membership price has increased.
3 answers
I am not completely sure. My membership did not change when I was member but also, my membership fees were discounted as I joined during a promotion, and once the promotion time expired I was paying the usual fees per month. Most gyms readjust pricing when the lease of the premises they are settled increase, so I would guess it is the same with Curves. The only way to be sure about this is to ask Curves directly 1300 287 837 or, even better, send them an email asking this here http://curves.com.au/contact-us. You will have a written proof in case you visit one of their gyms and a staff misinforms you. Also, read the terms and conditions!
Under normal circumstances your membership fees will always remain the same as when you started provided you never left and then rejoined. (Eg: If you joined and the rate was $59 a month but after 2 years you needed to cancel, but then after 6, 7, 8 months etc., you decided to rejoin, the monthly fees may have risen to $79 a month which is what you would not have to pay.
Sometimes we have promotions as we do at the moment. Monthly fees have been halved for 3 months and then come February 2016 your fees would be the normal $79 a month. This would be explained to you at the time of sign up.
Their so called legal document stating that "The Member may continue to maintain this membership, at the above monthly rate for the life of the member or the facility" is not worth the paper its written on. Even though our franchise remained under the same ownership they claimed that the umbrella company of Curves international had changed hands numerous times and therefore the agreement was void- what a load of crock!!
