Can I use this precision sealer binder on new front door then apply two Coates of oil based gloss to finish

Hi Gerry
The "Sealer/binder" is to bind loose powdery hard set plaster (Solid plaster, not plasterboard) and provide a hard solid surface, and place a barrier between the very alkaline plaster and subsequent coats of paint (They would not adhere, unsealed plaster "burns" paint.
I've used it in my Perth house where plaster was not sealed in 80's (Had to hand scrape back to white set plaster, horrible job!) and works well on solid plaster, how it would work on other substrates might be a wildcard.
I'd steer to a purpose made timber primer/sealer/undercoat, check its compatible with oil top coats (Most if not all are).

Would be inclined to give the gate a light sand to remove any loose coating then apply the sealer then a top coat. Check the instructions on the paint can to be sure.

Hi Tony
Thank you for reaching out, you may apply a water based topcoat over Dulux Precision Sealer Binder, providing you allow the sealer binder to dry for 48 hours. If you prefer an oil based top coat this is fine as well. For further assistance please contact our Help & Advice Team on 132525 option 2. Our operating hours are Monday to Friday 7:30am to 7:00pm, Saturday 8:30am to 3:00pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm AEST.

I have just used the Sealer Binder to seal a patch on the wall where the paint HD stripped off and plaster is exposed. However, I also applied the sealer binder to the surrounding top coat. It is still sticky to touch. Can I expect this to dry completely or should I remove it somehow?

Can i use on bare timber

I believe it would be OK but read the instructions on the can first before you buy it as they define the application process and what preparation is recommended. My experience has been good bu only on pre painted gyprock ceilings where I had serious stains caused by the use of incorrect fixing screws. They rusted and stained the face of the material.

Hi

I am using white Dulux Precision to block leaching through the ceiling in our steel framed house. I have done one coat of ceiling white acrylic over it now which has had little impact in hiding it. I will do a second coat but just want to make sure painting acrylic over the shellac based Precision is all OK otherwise I may have to get an acrylic primer to go over it?

Thanks
