Grandtrek AT22 worst tyre ever

published

I got these fitted on new 2016 Ford Ranger, After lacking the traction on wet roads to enable taking off at traffic lights or safely turn around corners on wet roads I contacted 2 tyre dealers after being told to make a complaint to them by my Ford Australia dealer with comments supporting my experiences but nothing else. I then drove to my Ford Australia dealer to find out what they could do for me after 10,000 km and was told not their problem, call Ford. So I did call Ford and I am still waiting after 4 weeks for them to call back. My question was how can a car have a 5 star rating when it can not drive in the wet?
I will change these tyres asap while I wait for Ford Australia to call

Just plain dangerous with slightest wet road

published

These came with 2016 Mazda Bt50 dual cab. I put up with them for 14000ks and they are gone. Just plain dangerous with a little wet weather. I have another ute with Wranglers and they have fantastic so replaced the Dunlops with those. It is beyond me how they call them All Terrain. Im on property and they are just not upto the work.

Maximise Wear by Rotating

published

Had tyres OEM 2012 and just finished our third trip to Syd-Dar-Ade-Syd towing a 3tonne caravan. Have just clocked 131000klm and would estimate still have at least 5-10k left, but fitted same for that extra rubber depth for off road/dirt road usage expected at xmas. This was the first time that I have rotated every 5000klm as recommended and it is the best distance ever from a set of tyres.
Great performance and quiet on the road with that confidence of grip in Mud and Sand.

Absolutely useless in the wet

published

Got these tyres as OEM with my Ford Ranger. absolutely terrible in the wet, even just a slightly damp road will make them step out under light acceleration. Wont be staying on the car long, I've had enough.
Can't access their off road performance as I haven't had the opportunity yet

Best wearing tyres ever

published

HI had these tyres on the BT50 from new in 2014.....they have now done 93,000 KLMs and probably have at least 5,000 still on them...probably could get to 100,00 KLMs but as towing a big trip soon decided to have them replaced. However have found now they are unavailable so going for the newer version so hope they are OK Cheers Daryl

Excellent except for mud performance.

Second set on my Lexus LX 470.

Really good on the tar, very quiet. Excellent on the road in the wet too.

Very good on dirt and good wearing. Apparently they are very good on sand too.

I have had one puncture on a bush road, which I felt was unusual.

However be very careful in clay and mud. Tread blocks up and virtually no grip.

I do 90% on the black top but I have been a bit disappointed when on mud. Which has not been deep but actually a newly topped dirt road with high clay content.

CarLX 470

Good wearing with great grip on-road and in sand tracks.

Great choice for 4x4s that are towing, and for onroad and dirt road driving

published

My first set of AT22 (285/65x17") fitted to my vehicle as factory OEM tyres lasted 80,000 kms and were probably still OK for another 10,000 kms but I replaced them just because I found another near new set on eBay. Was very happy to replace these tyres with the same, as they have worn evenly despite me not regularly rotating them. They stay balanced and no big weights required.

These tyres are highway tyres, and will be fine for dirt road driving. Their thread pattern is not suitable for those wanting to do a lot of mud driving. Definitely confident to recommend them to anyone with a ute or SUV, who is after a quiet tyre, and not interested in hard core four wheel driving.

The AT 22 came with the BT50 when I purchased it new in 2014. They were rotated at each service by Mazda. I got 70,000 out of them with no issues after towing a 2.5 ton caravan all around Australia. Good value for my application of all bitumen driving, only began to feel a bit loose just before replacement.

At 20 vs At 22

published

Bought a new bt 50. It came with road tyres At20 s 255/70 R16s. They came on steel rims. I noticed on wet tar seal they were dangerous to drive (lost traction and couldnt corner) When i bought my alloy rims they had worn At22s on them which stick to the road like glue even in the wet. Which suits me cause im always late. The difference is like night and day

Handled everything thrown at them

published

These Tailand At22 tyres were supplied with our BT50. They have been all over Oz towing a 2500kg caravan and heavily loaded car. Been from Cape York to Tassie to WA and the Kimberlies. Covered over 80000kms over 3 years with no punctures and no problems in all types of weather. Should get around another 10000 kms before replacement. Don't really know why people call these Dunflops. They are a great all rounder tyre, quiet on road. Handle most light to medium off road stuff. Sure not great in deep mud but its not a mud tyre. Would buy again.

NO good whatsoever off road

Bought a Mitsubishi Triton and these came standard from new. Took off track - nothing too bad just forest trails but there was a bit of rain previously so quite muddy. Going up small hills - no grip, going around corners - no grip and to top it off, got a flat after only 1000ks. No apparent sign of a puncture. Had bridgestones on my previous Triton and they were great! Will be going back to them as soon as possible!!!

Satisfactory

Ford ranger farm vehicle.
90,000 km using 5 tyres rotated at 10,000km. Probably had another 10k km more.
Used mostly long distance on bitumen, off road on paddocks. On road most bends taken at advisory limits. Few roundabouts. No rough off roading. Fitted to vehicle when purchased new. Never needed wheel alignment. Consider tyres had relatively easy life. Replaced with same. Draw your own conclusions.

Travelled 81k and still had another 7k left on two of the tyres. Had to work at it by keeping an eye on wear patterns and adjusting pressures as required. Also rotated every 10k and had wheel alignments every 12 months. Are the costs of wheel alignmets woth it? I don't know but it must have a contributing effect on the costs of managing the tyres. I also drive very easily, don't go off road much.
Good mileage

It appears the key with these Grandteks is where they were made. In my experience the Japanese ones are very good but the Thailand ones are terrible for wear. I only got 19000 out of a front set. The Thai ones are rubbish. Trust me.
